The problem is that Caitlin wanted Jax to do what they wanted without bothering what that will entail for him! They didn’t tell he’ll have to fuse with an old man, they didn’t tell him he’ll likely have to depend on the fusion to sustain his life going forward, telling him this will change his life for the better without detailing how. The poor guy went into STAR labs thinking they found a way to fix his knee to enable him to play football again. She manipulated him to get what they wanted off him.
Except that doesn’t fly as the second he recognized they manipulated him, he bounced. They had to come to him again with more actual information for him to come with. Don’t be coming with the whole “they made him fuse when he thought they had a fix for his knee”. 30 seconds into the first visit to STAR Labs told him that was a lie. They also didn’t strap him down and FORCE him into doing it. He didn’t fuse with Stein before knowing he was an old man. He had the ability to back out any time. The only thing was that they really should’ve told him about how he’ll need to fuse periodically to live.
I’m not going to pretend being Firestorm is awesome though because as much as Star Labs would like to say otherwise, it’s a curse to be Firestorm. It absolutely SUCKS to be Firestorm. Woo, you can fly and use fire and other tricks but all the downsides aren’t really worth it. And they honestly did get lucky that there happened to be a kid whose life was going nowhere so much that being Firestorm could actually be seen as an upside.
Just chopped it up to comic tv show nonsense. But he is also young and impulsive naturally, so you could chop it up to that.
If you were 20 years old, and someone said, hey, fuse with this guy, and you can fly and manipulate matter, im sure you would take it. He didnt say he was taking care of his mother or anything like that. We can likely assume he was just working a shitty job, probably still living at home, and merging with someone to become a superhero sounds a lot better than changing and balancing tires throughout the 4 seasons.
I wouldnt turn that down at my age now. lol. Also as pointed out, that wasnt his shop, and im sure his largest bill in life, without any college loans, was his cellphone, and daily consumption of shitty taco bell and chipotle.
19-20 year olds dont exactly have a lot of responsibilities usually.
Speaking of, I like how that doctor went from “hey I’m gonna have superpowers” to “fuck they went with the other guy, and now they locked me in a prison forever”. He’s pretty much an enemy for life, from now on…
I would have been cool to see a King Shark/Grodd team up. But KS would have broke the budget. That’s why Grodd was looking like Beast Wars Optimus Primal. LOL!!!
I’m surprised no one also mentioned how easily they just invited people they dont know to their secret lair. lol.
Guess no room in the budget to setup a temporary place by cisco, then if it went through successfully, invite them to star labs where the shit really goes down. Neither black firestorm potentials mentioned the big red flash suit there also. lol
There was like this chunk of 5 minutes of explanation cut from the episode. What if either one of them snitched on star labs? You gonna lock em up forever for snitchin?
The bigger issue I have is how Barry willing let’s potential allies know his identity. Thinking about it, the scientist who couldn’t merge with Stein should be able to figure out Barry’s identity as the STAR Labs crew made no attempt to hide they work as Flash’s support crew.
