Well in this case they’re established. While the future Eobard wouldn’t exist, the one here now would still exist.
I think they might be going with multiverse theory with this one. In the flashback they showed “a” barry allen saving his younger self. I think thats the original barry allen who got his powers naturally instead of the way eobard made the accident happen.

The best example I’d use is DBZ as it’s pretty damn similar in time travel use. The difference is that we don’t know exactly what happens once a person who goes to the past returns to the future from which they left (in DBZ you can go to the past to change the future but it’s an alternate future and your own timeline is unchanged leading to a multi-verse).
