The Final Fantasy Thread 2.0 | FFXV: OUT NOW! It Really Did Exist

Agreed, though, admittedly, I’d love to see his renditions of a whole bunch of characters he didn’t design, including, but not limited to, Superman and Halo 2/3’s Arbiter. :looney:

Honestly, I never really understood it, either. I can’t tell if the script was just that bad (with the NES’ memory restrictions and all that) or if it just wasn’t all that thought out, but it seems like when you face Garland at the very beginning of the game, you don’t actually kill him. Just before he dies, he’s sent 1000 years into the past by the Four Fiends, who also live back then. This is because once Garland arrives in the past, he sends the Fiends themselves forward into the future so they can in turn send him back to the past. So, four go forward, one goes back in an endless loop. I think the whole point of it was just to get Garland into the past so he could become Chaos, but once the Light Warriors travel to the past themselves and beat him, the loop just stops. Assuming I even have it right, it’s got paradoxes up the ying-yang, but considering the game was once Square’s swan song I don’t think they were really going for lasting appeal here.

Yeah, in turn, back in the past he gains more power and potentially could live forever with said loop.

After Light Wariors kill Garland/Chaos, they are somehow stuck in the past and their deeds are the stuff of legends in their present time.

It was ingenous for it’s time and many peeps back then never expected Garland to be the final boss. And he was tough, the whole game was tough. Damn Ice Cavern!!!

I kinda see what you mean, but I think it’s specifically because CC covers such wildly different territory yet manages to connect it to the previous game that the game impresses me. As I recall, weren’t the dragons somehow an evolution of the reptites from the first game’s prehistoric age? I agree that the connections were vague in many place, but to me they worked because the game does take place in a seperate timeline than CT, where things turned out differently.

I pretty much agree. A lot of his design choices (i.e. Tidus’s lopsided overalls) are downright ridiculous and stupid, and I’m tired of his metrosexual BS dominating every new FF game that comes out, but he draws well. I liked his Dissidia artwork as well, I wish Amano had done more of the design work on the newer FF’s and they’d left it to Nomura to just render the characters in a concrete, commercial manner as a guide to the modelers and for the promotional art.

By the way, was Nomura involved at all in FFIV DS? The character redesigns for that were great (at least for the CGI anyway, the in game models were kind of lame).

Supposedly, a FF4 sequel will come for the Wii or another system.

Is this true?

Nomura is the guy who made spiky hair (in)famous.

The dragons were indeed the reptites in another dimension where they won the war vs. humans, and then, during their future, got pulled back into the Chrono world’s 12,000 BC as a way to counterbalance the “time crash” that the one wise man who was transported into the now-good future Crono and co. created orchestrated with the intent of creating a new archipeligo back in 12,000 BC that would eventually give birth to Serge, who would become the Arbiter of Time (the “Chrono Trigger”) and gain the means with which to save Schala from Lavos in the Darkness Beyond Time and “fix” the timeline, merging the separate dimensions and possibilities into one unified “best.” :looney:

But no worries. If I ever take over Chrono I won’t retcon Cross. I’ll reboot the whole series with a new canon that has nothing to do with the old (my “new” CT would see Schala joining Crono as a permanent party member, among many other things) so that anyone who likes the “old” canon can still enjoy it. Specs may be bitter, but he seeks the best for all. No homo. (And yes, I’m aware that I have a better chance of surviving a fall from 35,000 feet, naked, landing in a concrete parking lot than I do of ever being granted the rights to any of Square-Enix’s intellectual properties.)

While I did like Tidus’s design (he seemed more relaxed and “natural” than Vaan and Nomura’s other girly men), I’m all for Amano (or some other good character designer) to draw up the characters and let Nomura “Nomura-ize” them.

I don’t think Nomura did the CG art for FF4 DS, but I’m not 100%.

This sequel came out, in chapters, on Japanese cell phones, and has been announced for WiiWare in North America. And I’m 70% stoked.

Thanks!!!

And damn, a FF4 sequel deserves all the bells and whistles it can get. An appropiate console and production.

I would love to see the FF4 world or a medieval FF world with the current non handheld technology. Edge, Kain and the rest with today’s graphics would be extremely broken.

Awesome! When I’d first heard about the Japanese cell phone only format, I immediately ignored anything on it. I assumed it’d be like the Before Crisis stuff that never saw the light of day Stateside.

One more reason to dust of my Wii when this comes out!

My dude Nomura can make anything cool. I mean FF and Disney when you first heard it :bluu: His stories are so out there too. I wouldnt be suprised if he took hallucanigens. I also like how he remade characters like KH2 Seifer, Vivi, made Squall cool, made Axel Reno’s Nobody, and all those Bouncer homages with Dog Street, it was a nice touch IMO

There isn’t any better game in existence than Final fantasy IX.

I’m looking forward to XIII, but I’m trying not to expect much. FF has started to lose some flair with me since XII. I like the game a lot, but it took a while to come out and it was short on the story department.

I still have a FFXI account that I forgot to cancel. I don’t have any local friends who play it anymore so I might cancel it…maybe.

Besides that I recently started playing the FF1 & FF2 GBA pack. FFXIII is looking dope.

Hmm I see, but the thing is: How the heck did he send them to the future and such? Also you only face he Fiends once, so do the Warriors go back to the past to prevent Garland from sending them to the future again or…?

Damn I dunno what crack they were smoking but it must’ve been goooooooooooooooooooooood.

I keep forgetting the ending of FF1, but I take it they remained in the past and never got to return to the present?
One other thing that’s been bothering me about FF1; why did Garland kidnap the Princess for again?

Oh and :lovin:FF9:lovin:

Because he’s an evil knight.

Edit: While we’re on the topic of FF1, I thought this was pretty funny.

I wish we could get another FFT. That shit squarenix tried to feed us on the GBA and PSP just doesn’t do it for me. Sure the PSP one was fine, but we are in the 7th generation of consoles now. Even though the Disgae series is good. It just doesn’t compare to FFT IMO.

ONEZ

I’m in the minority here, but I like Nomura’s work FAR more than I do Amano’s. Amano is a better artist from the skill aspect but I like Nomura’s designs a lot more.

And Nomura’s Cecil is baller.

FFT2 with a squad of up to 10-12 characters vs. whatever=win.

I’d really like a true 3D version of FFT with all the fixin’s. Realistic Lightning Stab/Holy Explosion/Cyclops ftw.

Just passing by to say…

Fuck the Jumbo Flan fight in FF10.

That’s all!!!

In the minority but 10 is arguably the best ff…
