Am I the only one who thinks this demo feels sloppy as hell? Everything from the graphics to the animations, and especially the controls feels off. Seems like weaving is the new parry because my boxer freezes if he misses a punch. All hype no game imo
I’m not noticing the sloppiness. I skipped out on 3 but was all over #2 and this feels way better (presentation-wise as well as gampelay-wise). The one odd thing I noticed is that I couldn’t just block and press down or up, and I’d have to diagonal up or down. Maybe I was just off or something…
Kinda wishing Tyson was in the fucking demo though.
Anyhow, I’m on the fence about getting anything new, and then I’d have to figure out if I wanted this or UFC. I think I would get FNR4 before UFC. The online portion of #2 was the perfect setup imo. I really liked how they just kinda threw 100 people in a chat room server and let you set up fights that way (#3 may have also had that, I don’t know).
Create a character stuff is always whack, so hopefully they can be avoided by a filter in online modes. Just the idea of boxing against a 4’’ 500lb chinese guy with an afro whose abilities are maxed out only on haymakers is a turn off…
Woulda preffered the cutman mini game to the “health/damage shop” in between rounds.
Try punching in combos.
Just throwing one punch means if you miss your boxer will freeze yeah, that’s normal since he wasn’t planning on doing anything else (since you didn’t make him do anything else).
edit@First to win 5:
If you think the create a boxer is whack, you should really try 3 then ^^
Really? All I did is get really close to Hatton and do nothing but throw haymakers. This game is exactly like FNR3. All you have to do is throw haymakers and body shots when you’re in close. I’ve gotten 1 round knockouts, I get at least 4 knockdowns per fight. Still the same game, just better graphics. I could make an argument that the knockdowns suck as well, but that’s because they don’t feel ragdoll anymore.
So are there still the special punches?
I hated that crap. Also, Judge Jab was way too godlike.
Yep, you press A to do your special. I got like 3 knockouts using it.
uch, this game is about haymakers like past FNs?
well there goes your 60 bucks ea. i wanted a boxing game.
Oh I don’t mean like specials like the character specific stuff. That shit is cool, I loved Arturo’s gazelle punch.
I mean the slow battle and flash ko punch bullshit. The Super Haymaker stuff.
I am on EA’s site right now, and I heard there were rumors that Prince Naseem would be in the game, they still have one TBA slot and I am really hoping that its Naz. Nobody else really makes sense for a lower weight guy, and for heavy the only guy I can think of that they havent brought out yet is Evander.
Could be Money Mayweather too. No idea, but I heard Naz really early, and wouldn’t it be fun to use his crazy style.
Hope Tommy Hearns got dat flicka jab
Hmm they stated that the demo was [too] easy [because they didn’t want to scare potential buyers].
Don’t expect to be able to throw infinite haymakers in the real game or online.
Anyway, they’re kind of useless, you can KO your opponent “just” throwing combos, and that’ll work on higher level play because combos is basically how you confuse an opponent trying to block your hits. (by “just” throwing combos, i mean not using any hamayker)
I can’t wait for the demo myself. As we’ve all talked on the FN forums, the demo is an old build, and the sluggish gameplay, hook spamming, body shot spamming, counter freeze recovery frames will be fixed
Who is available to play in the demo? The demo is still freezing my xbox so I can’t play it, but I do want an idea of who’s available for everyone to base their opinions on.
Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton are playable in the demo, because at the time, their fight was coming up. I’ll use Pacquiao only because he’s more of a boxer and I always prefer boxers to sluggers.
I love fight night and everything, but, with Blazblue and KOF coming out around the same time, this wont get bought for a while.
The demo is out on PSN Asia. I made an acct and d/l it. It’s the most realistic representation in any boxing game I’ve played and that includes VB. Peter Moore announced the game is hitting June 25th instead of June 30th yesterday at E3.
OH MAN. What countries are in Asia region, cause I regged for Malaysia and they don’t even have playstation store!
They JUST released the newest few boxers, and my dude Arturo THUNDER Gatti is in it which probably means that Mickey Ward is in it too! Calzaghe is in it too so should be great.
Still hoping for The Prince though so that I can knock that fuckin Barerra around.
Cant wait to throw bombs on you guys. =)
Man I played the demo. Holy shit! You actually have to box to be successful. I’m so glad they took out the unrealistic parry in this game. Now timed blocks and timed dodges are the new parry. I’ve tried out both pacman and hatton. Did some in fighting with hatt and some out boxing with pac since he has the better reach. Styles really do matter in this game. Man I’m going to get this game day one. Be prepared to face my Thomas Hearns, Ray Robinson, Sweet Pea, Jones Jr, and Joe Fraizer. Oh yea, I’m def gonna use Ali and Tyson too.
just played it. game is good. movement is a bit weird but i am too much used to vb i guess =P
^^Don’t worry too much about the movement. They sped up the foot work and made the animations much smoother for the movement. If you check out some of the latest videos you can see the improvement. I can’t wait to play against people online. After some of the videos I’ve seen, people can’t box for shit. All they do is get in close and slug it out. Even with boxers like Ali who are supposed to keep their distance. And when they go for the infighting they use no defense what so ever. I can’t wait to rip apart my opponents block with Hearns jabs and then KO them with his vicious right.
Yeah i hope the netcode will be as good as SFIV’s.
Can’t wait to get it…Still one week ^^
To the people complaining and thinking this game is going to be nothing but hay-makers…
There’s a big piece of the puzzle that oddly enough no one here has noticed. All punches EXCEPT haymakers track naturally. This is why dodging and countering regular punches have to be timed right, because like in real life, if you’re leaning your head to the right and I throw a left hook AFTER you leaned, I’m still going to aim for your dome.
Meanwhile, haymakers do NOT track, at all. You have to set them up in combos or as counters. Yeah, you may be able to hit the computer on “super-easy”(yes, the devs stated the demo is actually lower difficulty then easy mode) with them, but since when is that low of a difficulty a good indicator of what you can get away with in a game? I mean, on SF4 you can get away with J.RH, C.RH on easiest all the way thru the entire game and get ALL perfects if you want to, does that make it a viable tactic in high-level play? Nope, sure doesn’t.
Pretty much, if you expect that hay-maker, just keep bobbin your head, and guard that gut. You’re guaranteed the “slip punch/dodge” counter-punch window if they miss one up top, and you’ll guard the body if they go there. The “flash ko/stun punch” super hay makers are gone, so the lucky punch is pretty much out the window.
