If you make the post he’ll just use it as bait to make you go and fight him. Its honestly not even worth writing. Ever since he blocked me i knew he wasn’t interested in any discussion at all, just drama.
Okay for anyone who doesn’t care about any that has been going on for the last page please just skip this post, and I apologize for the off topic shift in this thread.
Event status you posted two videos today, well yesterday at this point when, saying that I was ducking you, when I had already mentioned:
that I would be at Summer Jam the entire weekend
where Summer Jam was located
You knew I wasn’t going to show up when you made that challenge, because I said where I was going to be this weekend in the post that you got so upset about.
Also and this is a huge point for any of event status’ youtube followers who are reading this. He went through two whole videos and never once provided any evidence against my claims that he is a fraud and not who he said he claim to be, which is part of this community.
If someone said that I was a wasn’t a part of the Philly FGC here are some things that I would tell them
NEC 14 is this year, I was NEC staff since NEC 1 when the staff was only three people. Those three people were Big E, me and Mik.
University Pinball is the only arcade left in Philadelphia, I worked there after Big E left, and ran the fighting game tournaments that were there. I worked there for 5 or 6 year and it is the only arcade in the city. Still don’t believe me? Here is a tournament anouncement from 7 years ago when I still worked at the arcade 7/29 MVC2 Masters Tournament in Philly
I ran the northeast regional Tournament for Namco during Tekken 5, when Namco was still Sponsoring regional and National events.
I have a media badge from both Apex Final Round this year I don’t even need a badge for Philly events
This is a picture of the Grand finals of Street Fighter 4 at Summer Jam 7, because while you were walking around center city saying the fighting game players should be doing something positive I was actually doing something helpful for the community. http://shinob-e.smugmug.com/photos/i-bTMXGVz/0/M/i-bTMXGVz-M.jpg
This is a community, and as part of a community you should interact with other people in the community, but I can’t find anyone who has had any kind of fighting game interaction with you. (and keep in mind that I was at a event with hundreds of other fighting game players all weekend)
I have been staff since the beginning of Philly’s majors, but I’ve never seen you.
I ran the weeklies for years, but I’ve never seen you.
I worked at the only arecade in the city for years, but I never saw you.
There are sessions at Temple and Drexel, but I’ve never seen you.
We have tournaments at Copa, but I’ve never seen you.
I am a photographer. I have thousands and thousands and thousands of pictures from fighting game events but I’ve never seen you.
The point of all of this information is that I can name names, dates, event and provide photos to verify that I am a part of the Philly fighting game community. If you can do the same then please do it. I have no problem saying that I was wrong for calling you a fraud if you can provide people or information that can verify that you are a part of the Philly fighting game community. What I just provided was a list of things that I have done in or for this community. Done, as in actions that I have taken for this community. If you are a part of this community what have you done for it that wasn’t on youtube? No sidetracking, no diversions, no distractions. Please tell me and all of the people who have been listening to and trusting what you say, what you have actually done for the fighting game community and please give us some specifics so that we can verify the truth of what you are saying.
If you are one of the people who follow this guy on youtube then this information is very inportant to you and you should keep hounding him until he provides it, because he is saying that he wants the truth out there, but he has been claiming to be a member of this community, which by all of my checking he isn’t. He is basing his talks about the FGC on a lie, but he wants you to believe that what he is telling you is the truth.
I have a new job, I see you read that part. I’m not sure if you also read, but my car broke down last week, so before you go issuing more ridiculous challenges, please know that I will be taking a very long trip to work every day and not showing up to any places that you randomly give me an hour to show up at. Also I take my job seriously and I will not be checking SRK tomorrow during work.
Btw my name is Eric, and if you were actually a part of the fighting game community in this city you would have already known that.
And now everyone else I return you to our regularly scheduled programming…tomorrow. Because I have been up all day and I stayed up even longer to write that reply and I am going to sleep.
Even if Event hadn’t been to many Philly tournaments it doesn’t change the validity of his videos because he provides evidence. Event doesn’t just spout bullshit he references videos and articles. From what Event has shown I would say the FGC does need cleaning up and that he is a force for good in the FGC. If you agree that he is right for pointing out the problems why should it matter whether he’s been to the tournaments you’ve been too?
I’m first to admit I’m no one in the scene, but even I’ve seen some shit at local events that if it were anywhere else would have someone ejected, or dragged to the curb holding their jaw together. Why is that? Money? Fame? Ego? All Three? I can’t say, but the community seems to have gotten too large, too fast and can’t cope. It’s like we don’t have an identity so we’re screaming and digging to find one through a pile of Sexism, Racism, rage, and misplaced anger. I’ve got a 17 year old sister and I’ll be damned to Hell before I ever let her near another venue after a player pushed her backward outta her chair, giving her a f**king concussion because he was salty at losing at Marvel and wanted a quick escape.
That said, we don’t need more anger to try and bring it under control. We need cool heads to prevail and actually talk shit out rather than just ignore it. We need organizers to put their foot down and set some ground rules for basic human decency, and we need to enlighten the ignorant like the (mostly) Adults we are. I’m not saying that highlighting all the nasty things our community does, and putting them on blast is a great idea, but some of the things that have been reported and confirmed need to be addressed so as not to happen again.
Why on earth eric would you give any that has issues the time of day that won’t show up. That is the first thing I request… if you have issues about the FGC come out an lets chop it up. That social media/youtube response ish aint nothing to me an shouldnt be nothing to you…
if they cant come out on a extended hand… sorry I can’t hear you.
Even beyond this “fight” he wanted to do which I disagree with, I don’t see how him saying something you don’t like to hear makes him an idiot. You even got mad on his last video for it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a TO or a writer for SRK, nothing he said in that video was false and you know it. Now I can get flagged for trolling or disagrees for defending him or whatever. Point is, people just get overly defensive when people give criticism of what they love despite it being the truth, rather than fixing problems at hand and proving them wrong. Let’s not attack one another, it doesn’t solve anything. He’s just as in the wrong as us.
One possible bad scenario, is that all the major big name sponsors turn around and hold a proverbial gun to the TO’s heads and demand order or lose sponsorship money, so this is the best chance if any to show we can still police our own like back in the arcade days, or if you thought WofC was ban-happy with Official Magic tourneys, then just wait. One idea, though I think it was mentioned a few times is a Underground/Pro leagues where Underground players can do local, smaller no-cameras tourneys, but at the risk of much lower pots. Pro can compete for high pots, but must follow a rules-of-conduct in and out of of tournaments
Ether way lets start to find long term solutions to the perceived image of the FGC and it’s TO and sponsors, or it may get worse (if you though Event was harsh, imagine if someone like Anita Sarkeesian locks on the perceived sexism, it would be like trading in a bulldog for a wolverine), and they will find solutions no one is going to like in the end.
I can’t speak for any man that may disagree… but I can see some issues that can cause this. Just like the vid posted above… I posted on his comment section that his distaste for F.Champ causes him to post things and NOT find out the back end. That vid he linked has history. What most don’t know REGARDLESS of how you feel about Champ is that he is COMPETITIVE within the scene. He will talk trash…ON YOUR GAMEPLAY. You as a person hey that probably happens off cameras as does most do. Yet that vid he links stating how could he…so disrespectful… I ask did he actually take time to know why he would do such a thing. I’m sorry but if you actually WATCHED the full tournament you would’ve also caught Champ speaking on how YIPES has removed himself from the competitive side to the media side. He called him out to his face. I had to point out there is trash talk as it was in the arcade days… they’re some rivalries as it was in the arcade days. If you don’t like a guy for personal reasons simply state it… don’t cut vids up to make it look like he is strictly this asshole to a random guy.
I agree with some points and as he said we can agree to disagree but like Eric posted above I doubt he seriously goes out into this community to get to know it. I have a feeling he goes off what he reads and sees via outlets on the internet and hearsay. Again just my opinion. He is from Philly and yet MAJORITY of the old and new Philly family never seen or heard of this guy… that’s from 40th street (UP) to Big E’s events. I just hope he gets out to our events more to get a real good view of what the FGC is.
That video is hilarious. I love how he contradicts himself so much, the guy can’t argue for shit, that or english isn’t his first language.
lol @ the fight part, basically he went on saying:
"Look at this guy! So, he won’t fight! He’s scared! What a bitch! How come you’re not fighting, huh?“
Then
"But yeah, fighting is bad. It’s completely immature!! FGC!!!”
So because he didn’t throw a punch, he loses. But if he did throw a punch… HE STILL LOSES!!
The video offers no information as to way so resolve issues happening on the FGC in anyway, but rather just being loud and stating the obvious flaws happening within’ the community, making the overall video pointless to watch. Thing is, all communities suffer backlashes like this, and some worse than others. I guess FGC is just flavor of the month right now and it’s the popular thing to do since Kotaku hates the shit out of the FGC for whatever reason.
In the end, ignorant people just like being loud. Nothing new here.
My problem with him is that he does not come of as someone from the community. Like what Koop said, he seems to be some guy who just picks stuff up from the net and rants about it for hits. Compare that to Eric who I know does alot of good things for the community, both online and offline.
Also, I don’t get why all of a sudden everyone’s panties are up in a bunch over trash talk. There are bigger issues that the FGC needs to address than just trash talk. Heck, trash talk happens in alot of professional sports (boxing, mma, basketball, etc.). It’s just part of the human drama that makes competitive pastimes so compelling to watch. Heck, FChamp has admitted to me that he does act like a, in his own word, a “villain” because having him act as one makes stuff more compelling to watch (and obviously pulls in the numbers).
i’m still wondering who the fuck this guy is. he’s the one claiming stake in a scene that he has no part of. eric (blackshinobi) has been doing his thing this weekend helping run/promote a major, not sitting around promoting negativity
This should end this tangent. If you don’t support your games in the local community no one cares about your opinion ‘contribution.’
Being a fan of fighting games doesn’t entitle you to go in on a community you aren’t a part of. No one hears you when you try to change something from the outside.
Maybe he was an old school arcade goer in the late 80’s ~ 90’s and hung out at an arcade that was closed down. This dose bring up 2 ways of thinking of this, in one hand, that proves he was part of the tournaments, even if it was almost 20 years ago, on the other hand it can also be said that he should have went out first hand to see how it’s like now-a-days. But back to the topic at hand, even if you don’t like the person, the issues isn’t going to go away, they still must be taken care of, before someone with no interest of what any of us and a lot more money and power dose it for us
