This post I’m just using to hold my thoughts on E3 this year and cut them out of the OP since I reached the word limit. Note to self…make sure to claim the next post for most space next year.

Thoughts and Expectations on the Big 3
Microsoft
Ok. So in all seriousness here, Microsoft’s conferences for the past 2 years have not exactly been the most thrilling unless you countavatar shoes being shown and little kids petting skittles. Looking at what my list of games that been announced so far for the 360, they only have 2-3 exclusives coming out that aren’t for the Kinect and least 2 of the exclusives Halo 4 and Forza Horizon so I easily expect those to be shown. I’m pretty sure most people now should be expecting CoD: Black Ops 2 gameplay to be debuted during the conference as it’s pretty much become a thing between Activision and Microsoft each year now. Unfortunately, these type of experiences look to be the smaller part of the conference.
I don’t even know if Kinect at this juncture is selling as well as it has in the past 2 years…I personally can’t remember the last time my store sold one new or used for that matter. Yet again though, Microsoft has put a good chunk of money behind Kinect and they want it to be a success so I’d expect at least half of the conference to be taken up by this. I suggest people pray that they pull Capcom up on stage to show the masses just how exactly Steel Battalion works and I’m hoping that the Panzer Dragoon spiritual sequel, Crimson Dragon, gets demoed and shown up on stage. I’m also expecting Ryse to finally be demoed since that was a big title that was announced last year but then it went into silence. I really think that this is probably going to be Microsoft’s last chance to try to rope in the core gamers and make their system not look like an overpriced microphone. Who knows…maybe even Fable the Journey could actually work extremely well and look fun but after Kinect Star Wars I think most hope has been lost that the Kinect can actually be seriously applied to core titles on its own. I wouldn’t be surprised if Dance Central 3 suddenly was announced this year as well. They need something to keep the casuals playing right?
Adding on top of all of this is the fact that they don’t really plan to have games as a focus this year so much as more services. Which pretty much means you can possibly expect more stuff similiar to this.
My only hope is that Microsoft has been able to keep some surprises close to their chest to make their conference not a snooze fest…that or give us some meme worthy material.
Sony
I don’t think there’s too much to worry about with Sony’s conference. Sony at the moment has a good number of exclusives to show off and they don’t have an obese elephant in the room to worry about. Last of Us should be there with some gameplay being demoed, PS Battle Royale has to be there with some expected and not so expected characters to be announced and along with 100% confirming a version for Vita, Little Big Planet Karting for both PS3 and Vita should make a showing and hopefully they’ll reveal what sets it apart from Modnation Racers, perhaps we’ll see some thieving done in the new Sly, and of course we can expect the famous greek angry man to probably make some ridiculous over the top showing since we know and have seen the multiplayer but have yet to see anything from the story. The only exclusive that’s coming to the PS3 that has big ??? over it currently is The Last Guardian since it was recently revealed thatthey don’t know if it will show up this year or not. It’s been nearly a year since footage was shown on the game and nobody has yet demoed it within it’s lengthy development period. This game showing up at all this year would be a nice surprise even though it understandably is going through issues at the moment.
Sony’s Vita is not doing too bad right now but it’s no secret right now that the 3DS is mopping the floor with it. I’m fully expecting Sony to show during this conference why you should be purchasing this console. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vita took up the largest chunk of their conference this year in order to push it. They should be dropping bombs all over this. The system is in need of more games, this includes some exclusives as well as ports of the home console experience. 2K is supposed to be working a Bioshock for Vita that has no connection to Infinite, this would be the perfect time to showcase this or at least give a small trailer for it. Perhaps they should announce CoD: Black Ops 2 for the system as well, I know CoD has a good amount of haters (myself included) but the game sells and would be great for the portable. Personally I’d also think it’d be a good idea to knock the price down $50 but I don’t see them doing that this year since they aren’t desperate and they have the holidays to look forward too.
Games with Move support seem to have taken a backseat and become far less important. I don’t expect move to take up much time if very much at all during the conference this year for that reason. Bioshock Infinite isn’t going to be at the show this year and that would have been nice to see with the Move. The only games that I see on my list with move support are Ice Age and James Bond: Legends, so unless some 3rd parties…like Capcom with RE 6…show up and give some surprises then the motion controller isn’t going to be doing much this year.
The only thing that will be most interesting if it happened would if the rumors of Sony teaming with a cloud based service end up ringing true. I look forward to seeing how they’ll explain everything regarding it.
Nintendo
Nintendo’s conference easily has potential to ‘win’ this year but considering the fact that it’s Nintendo it’s a wildcard. The fact of the matter is there isn’t much concrete info out on the Wii U which is going to be without a doubt a significant portion of the 60 minute conference that they are going to have. Every leak that has come out about the system after it’s debut last year has pretty much been all over the place. There are some developers who are saying the system is underpowered or underwhelming and even going so far as to say it’s not as powerful as the current gen PS3 and 360. Then on the other side of the coin there are the developers who have spoke up and said that the console is awesome andone developer even puts forth his own game as proof. With so many different things being said of the console it’s impossible to place a verdict until E3. Nintendo has so much riding on this console that if it doesn’t wow us then that’s going to be big trouble for them. Everything should be blown out on the console, this includes how the internet works, how transitioning stuff from your Wii to this console will work out, all the functions of the tablet, etc. The only thing we shouldn’t be expecting is a price and a date at the conference.
Since 1 of the specific goals is to try to pull the hardcore’s back in, there should be bombs dropped all over the games in this regard. Not showing what Retro has been doing for the past 2 years is probably not going to be a good idea. Pikmin 3 will probably be an excellent game to show off some of the features of the tablet controller. If at all possible get a CGI trailer for Smash to get the hype going for that. They should be wowing us with the amount of third party support they have going to have, Ass Creed 3, Batman, Darksiders, Aliens…This is already looking good but there needs to be more. It’d be a big win for them if they made sure to get Activision on board with Black Ops 2 for the holidays. I mean really this should be great….someone else has even hinted that Wii U’s launch titles will be solid. Nintendo should be firing on all cylinders on that.
3DS isn’t going anywhere anytime soon since it’s now enjoying healthy sales after a rocky start. I’m sure they would want to keep the momentum going for that so I’m expecting updates on Luigi’s Mansion 2, Paper Mario, Animal Crossing and the game that will probably print the most money for the system this year…NSMB2. If they had any sense though they wouldn’t take up the stage completely with their own games and point out the third party efforts that are coming to the handhelds. Kingdom Hearts will be out in less than 2 months for the system and that will be huge and then they have the western developer support that they said will be revealed this year (hopefully that Saints Row game didn’t get canceled…). I’m expecting Monster Hunter to finally be announced that it will be localized along with the new Fire Emblem which would be dumb if they didn’t bring over here considering it’s the highest selling one they’ve done so far in Japan. I mean in all honestly, if I had to choose one part of Nintendo’s conference that I have most of my faith in, it’s going to be the stuff pertaining to the 3DS.
Wii and DS support will be the least focus save for 2 titles, The Last Story and of course Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. I’m not expecting them to spend much time with The Last Story save for a new trailer to get it’s name out there to help Xseed with marketing for it. Pokemon is Pokemon really…they’ll probably go over the extra features with the downloadable 3D pokedex and the possible extra features it may have for the 3DS. More than likely, they’ll probably make a passing remark about the Kirby collection and that will probably be it for that.
Nintendo shouldn’t really be able to screw this up but everything hinges on that Wii U showing…we shall see see how this goes.
