The golden rule says that you can only assert something to be moral if you would want that act done to you.

Eye for an says that it’s ok for X to happen to you because you did X.

I get Matriarchs point. You’re suppose to basically be better than him. Show empathy regardless of him having not done so. Because you would want to be shown the same. Hopefully this moves him to be less of a dick should he survive.

But when you incorrectly justify yourself by applying the wrong ethical principle, then yes, someone should correct that.

If you want to endorse eye for an eye, go for it.

Even when I do agree with him, he often makes his point with little to no tact.

You guys need to calm down. Just because it’s Trump it doesn’t mean you get to say and do whatever you want.

I’m not even saying eye for an eye is necessarily bad. I’m saying that’s the principle that’s being applied here.

It’s not “just because it’s Trump.” Anyone that shows no empathy to others gets no empathy from me. I don’t check for a D or a R beside someone’s name before I decide what to think. Also, not showing empathy and actively wishing ill on someone isn’t the same thing.

To be honest I could straight up wish for Trump to die (I don’t, half because that’d be too much and half because I want him to see himself getting washed at the elections) and that still wouldn’t quite be “an eye for an eye” compared to his callous disregard for decency, his duties, human life in general and the 200k dead people that are entirely on him.

Trumpers asking other people to please be respectful are peak hypocrisy anyway.

We all know Trump will NOT change his tune if he lives. He’s gonna go right back to downplaying this virus even more since he beat it, this endangering even more ppl and will continue taking personal digs at others. This ain’t one of those situations where I can be a better person after he made light of Biden’s kids
