I see where you’re coming from, bad decisions can land you in hot water.
I guess I’m just trying to see if you have any ideas on how to fix this situation? Whether or not you had you’re financial provider disappear, or you made some poor life choices and now you’re taking care of kids on a tiny paycheck, what should we (the US gov’t) do about it?

Cause situations like this result in hunger, strains on our teachers and education system, and eventually an overloaded foster care system.

I guess this is what claiming dependents on your taxes is supposed to help with, but it still seems to be a real issue with the US working poor.

Also gonna add I ain’t trying to attack you, and don’t expect a well laid plan from you(cause I don’t really have one). I’m just lucky enough to not have to worry about this in my day to day, and it’s got me thinking

And the times changed and his perception of the world was outdated and useless. Almost all the advice he ever gave me turned out to be out dated crap.

Pfft we aren’t even being realistic about the situation now. Those skilled jobs are the next ones to be outsourced for cheaper labor, just like the previous generation of skilled jobs.

Also people have lots of extenuating cirumstances. That’s not really blanket to cover all the issues people deal with.

So someone should up root their whole lives and move across the country to suit your ego?
WTF is this shit?

Oh yeah, like how even getting your X-rays looked at is now outsourced to a foreign country.
High end skilled tech jobs.

They are looking at replacing Top-level system admins with outsource jobs, getting rid of IT support and Paralegals with AI, hell I would not be surprised of surgeons are replace all together by robots.
When we are outsourcing job that been held by medical doctors we gone too far.

You have to be pretty spoiled to think that someone suggesting moving to a location where jobs in your field are to be had is an ego thing. I’d rather move to work in my chosen field (and I have) than work a low skill job that isn’t just because I won’t move.

You don’t get to complain that you don’t have a job in your field if you aren’t willing to work to get it. Getting the degree doesn’t guarantee you the job.

I typed out an idea earlier I had for tackling the minimum wage issue so that people can more likely keep the jobs and companies aren’t forced to pay something ridiculous based on the cost of living in an area. I don’t feel like typing it out for a third time, so if you’re intersted, look up at one of my first few posts today.

Dude, the bolded part.

This isn’t something that people could’ve planned for. A year like this is historically bad. A worldwide disease, Political bickering the likes of which may have NEVER happened before, riots, wildfires, hurricanes, short of a visit from a biblical plague I don’t see how much worse this storm could’ve gotten. Now, like you said at the very end all they can find now is retail and restaurant work. Those people mentioned with stem and engineering degrees? They got hit HARD. They did make the right moves and then THIS year happened.

And what did they do? They got up and found the first thing they could to put food on their tables. It’s a start. It’s a place they can plan their next move, which I would think is trying to get back to their old jobs if possible. They didn’t sit and wait, they got knocked down, they wiped the dust off, and got right back up. That is what I’m talking about. This is probably the hardest times for some of them and they are still keeping it moving.
As that old saying goes,“Tough times don’t last, but Tough people do.”

I want to read that, but I’m not taking off ad blocker for them. Is there another place I can find that story?

Except we did, and your “fearless leader” got rid of the group who job is to prevent this from happening, and threw out the play book and sat on his hands. The Plans were 9 or 10 years in the making, and orange bad man decided to ignore it.

And dont preach to me ether.

no need to preach. Matriarch said it better than I could up above.

Sorry homie, missed some of your posts today.

Adjusted minimum wages according to costs of living is something we already do, right? State minimum wage?

You are making an interesting point tho, how much can we value our least valuable jobs.
Raising minimum wages radically would seem to really hurt mom and pops the most…

actual news reported his actions

Reporting trump’s actions is not fake news

Matriarch was more on that incest and other gossip bs…

Trump is keeping his name out there and he is happy people hate him because he is a heel. So he knows there are a majority of moronic sheep who eat his shit like cheetos. Like yourself

it is supposed to adjust, but it doesn’t. I think what Trump wants to do is nail it to the inflation rate so that whatever happens to one happens to the other. Another thing I hope he does is tears up the current tax code and simplifies it. That would make EVERYBODY’S life easier.

…same mood.

I was peeping the state minimum wages, and places with a higher “true” dollar value (lower cost of living) typically have a lower minimum wage. However, they don’t have a good yardstick or baseline.

I think this is what Mario was saying (sorry man, sometimes I’m slow) but if there was a Federal minimum wage of $10 (for easy math) then in Rhode Island would be $10/hr cause they have true dollar value of $1.
In New York, the minimum wage should be $11.30/hr cause the true dollar value is $0.87 and in Alabama the minimum wage would be $8.50 cause they have a true dollar value of $1.15

My idea was getting even more micro with it and going county by county. There are so many cost of living disparities within some states that a state minimum wage is almost too broad imo.

I like that. You’re right, there’s places in my state that are cheap as shit, and in my county, the cost of living is like 7% above the national average.

Thanks for the food for thought!

My brother is doing a PHD and is teaching at the same time, he says constantly there are too many people who don’t belong in universities. Some are borderline dumb, when 40% of the populace go to college it’s not the brightest anymore, it’s just your average joe.

Where is this place? Cheapest apartment I see available is $725 a month. Minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. Which come out to just over 15k a year before taxes. You are going to need a vehicle to get back and forth to work. That plus rent will all but wipe out your after tax income.

You can take public transport but that not only adds up fast, but in a lot of cities like mine, is very dangerous these days, ESPECIALLY after dark when most people get off work.
