The Dynasty/Samurai/Gundam/Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) Warriors thread

I hope this comes stateside…

That new OPM PV makes it as if Racjin’s Bleach Resurreccion didn’t do Bleach enough justice. Pleeeeeeeeease Koei, help Racjin make BSR2 better.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the video.
Racjin…take fucking notes.

just got Fist of the North Star today. I let myself get pretty hyped while waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Its ok, I guess. Feels like it could have a lot more, they speed along the story too quick. I already beat Shin, does it get…less average? I mean, its obvious that a lot of love went into the game but it is just so…okay, like, nothing thus far has really made me go “WHOA! AWESOME!” I guess I’ve been spoiled after playing God Hand so much and expecting this to be a bit like that.

I would love to see an HnK game by Platinum or something.

I played a bit of FotNS: Ken’s Rage. Felt too slow for my taste. Worth a rental, IMO.

In any event, glad WO3 is coming stateside. I’ll endure the Japanese voices so as long as they provide English voices for DLC. If not, it’s not that big of a loss, though I’ve grown accustomed to the English voices.

Hokuto Musou is pretty much the best musou game visually and mechanically.

Did you somehow forget that Shin is like the beginning of the whole story? Hokuto Musou pretty much just covers all the really important fights. Also, it’s not God Hand so I’m not sure why you expected that, but the game does have plenty of awesome shit, you just don’t have any of it yet.

Having a hard time figuring out who my favorite character is in Ken’s Rage, gotta say so far Shin’s Dream mode has been the best IMO.

I got about 26 hours before I couldn’t play it anymore. The feeling when you have to level up your character is worse than starting DMC3 with Dante and realizing your styles are crap and all you have is a sword, dual hand guns, and a shotty. I liked Rei and Shin was alright but no way I could tolerate grinding to level those guys up after Kenshiro. I thought Jagi’s style was interesting and I did want to play Raoh but alas I couldn’t take anymore.

I still have my copy though. DW One Piece looks a lot more interesting than the standard DW series since I liked what I saw when they showed Sanji and Zoro. The rest of the cast I don’t care for unless I can play as Ace or that jaguar dude.

I liked Ken’s rage. It needs some tuning. (the leveling system IMO being the biggest.) I admit the game feels sluggish and there were a lot of times I simply got lost cause the map or game in general does a horrible job of showing where to go next. I played a bit of Rei’s dream mode but I had to return the game before I got deeper into it. IMO the game also kinda suffers from DW Gundam 1’s sluggish area movement. (minus the constant mobile suit boosting.) Game also has one of the best option soundtracks to date:

If they honestly sped the game up a small bit and worked on fine tuning the level system, the game would be great.

FotNS is different if you go into it expecting something like Dynasty/Samurai/Orochi Warriors. It isn’t a weapons based hack-n-slash, it’s mainly fist fighting save for a few characters. It is unique and a nice twist to what you usually see from KOEI. The story goes to the end of the first half ot he manga, right before the time skip. I’m betting a second game will follow sooner or later that covers the second half of the story, but I wouldn’t hold my breathe, seeing as how FotNS is pretty niche and unknown to all the kiddies these days with their newer anime, so if there were a second game, it would be unlikely to be ported outside Japan.

Next up, as far as gameplay goes, all of story mode isn’t as hectic as other Warriors games and you won’t face as many enemies on screen, or in the entire stage for that matter. The game tries to stay true to the manga and adapts a more one on one or small group fighting. If you want a bit more enemies to pummel, go play Dream Mode, which will feel a lot more like the Warriors games you’re accustomed to.

All in all, the game is an enjoyable experience and the adaptation from the manga is pretty well done. I managed to get all 1000 achievement points on the 360 version, took me right around 50 hours. The last 10 hours was mindless grinding which was dull and boring, but I’m use to it after the literally hundreds of hours I’ve invested into the other Warriors games throughout my life.

Pretty much Japan just ignores the second half of HnK, and rightly so because it fucking sucks and was a victim of an extended contract. As far as most people are concerned, it ends with Ken vs Raoh lol

Because God Hand does a better job at feeling like a HnK game than an actual HnK game.

nah dude, you just don’t have the awesome shit yet. You’re still at a basic level

The attacks in Hokuto Musou really made me feel like I was doing serious fucking damage each hit.
I’d love a HM2 though even though HnK2 pretty much sucked and retconned nearly everything in Hnk1

Did not know that lol. I can see why though, post time skip arcs were pretty stale and boring. There wasn’t anything that I really enjoyed, I just read it because I felt the need to finish it all.

The Imperial Captial Arc was interesting IMO, since the plot and setting can be perfectly represented as a DW game. However, I just didn’t like the transition to the Asura Arc, as well as the retconning it made as well.

[details=Spoiler]Okay, so Rin, out of nowhere, has a twin sister that’s the Empress, boy she must sound important to the story right? trollllll

Also the fact that Ken would never cross into Asura if Rin didn’t get kidnapped coincidentally made the transitioning even weirder.[details=Spoiler]

So yeah i’m thinking that Saban OR Japan needs to jump on a Sentai Musou game. I’d buy in a heartbeat.

I copped Ken’s Rage yesterday. Enjoying it and it’s a good stress reliever after work. I’m doing Ken’s legend mode. Just beat Amiba, had to make myself stop playing it because I’m starting to level up and really feeling like a boss. Especially since I know how to play the game now. Also messed around with Jagi a bit in dream mode. Loving this guy. Reminds me of a mixture of Basara characters, most notably Zabii. But can’t wait to try others.

Yea i’ll probably say this might be the “best” musou game I’ve played, and I’m a huge Basara fan. But I felt SB3 was lacking and that PS2 games had more flavor. I’m not big on musou games anyway as I lose interest after awhile and the grind isn’t my thing. But Hokuto Musou actually has the story, characters, moves, level system, music, presentation, and overall badassnessto stand on it’s own. The game gives you the standard mission mode battlefield DW fare in it’s dream mode. And then you get a kind of watered down action game in legend mode.

My only real complaints and things that I can see is that the maps are a little dull and can get confusing. I won’t say they’re linear as if that’s a bad thing, because that’s what the game wanted. Same way that NGS2 did to streamline stuff. Also, game may feel sluggish at first but you HAVE to learn how and when to roll/jump cancel. It speeds up the game tremendously. And most repetitiveness will prob be alleviated once you level up and get the good shit. Plus, some people might not even utilize the stuff that they start off with. So there’s that. Gaining more moves and knowing how to use them definitely makes a difference.

Overall it’s a good time waster, and something I wouldn’t mind grinding in when I wanna waste time. I’m not even a big fan of HnK so I’m not playing this biased or anything. I enjoyed the story mode for some of the kingdoms in DW7 and then it fell flat like the others. SB3 has the characters, moves, combos/strings, and creativity, but the mission objectives and battlefields were so blah. I liked SB2H way more. For me, Ken’s Rage is more my style for now. Will prob get bored of it in minute, but the fact that my patience has allowed me to sit on the couch thus far, is amazing. And again, the game is just badass.

For the environments, yeah I admit they can look dull, but consider the fact that…

the land was bombarded with nuclear attacks, thus wiping out almost all evidence that the land was a hope filled, booming civilization, so it’s supposed to look dull lol.

Anyway you should give the manga and/or anime a read/watch. For me, I played the first stage of the game and got immediately hooked, and I just knew, I had to finish the manga before finishing the game, so I restricted myself, as painful as it can be to not play the game until I finish reading the manga.
