The Dormammu Thread

good team-mates?

I know we’ve already been discussing this, but just for the purpose of consolidation, what characters do you guys think would complement Dorm the best out of the ones we’ve discussed and seen in action? Specifically, reguarding assists and DHCs who would be the best? I’ve read alot of the team creation thread prospects, but I’m wondering what current speculation and the limited practice some have had with early release boils down to.

So far I’ve heard (in supposed order of practicality):

-MODOK (shield)
-Sent (drones)
-Hsein-Ko (bell)
-Trish (peekaboo)
-Doom (molecular shield)
-Hulk? (gamma wave…ground pick up thing)

Who else do we have? Some people have been kicking around pheonix, taskmaster, and shuma, but they seems sorta iffy to me (save for shuma…we’ll see). I like sent so far since it’s unlikely he’ll be completely taken out with a hyper xx KFC -> hyper, so you can use sent force fairly liberally because of his health. I want to have either X23 or Akuma with Dorm if only to have a rushdown guy on the team…thinking Akuma is probably the better prospect with his tatsu assist and metsu-gou-hadou DHC after chaos flame.

My opinion isn’t worth much since I’ve only played the game for a couple minutes, but just from what I’ve seen, I’d say Darkhole is just alittle better because of the faster startup, i guess seeing people punish assists so hard has me scared to use anything but the safest options, and Dorm’s health is only avg…just my 2 pecos.

Just Dark Hole. Purification obviously can’t lockdown, since if it actually hits it sends the opponent flying, and Liberation would only be good for one use.

I’m not feeling Gamma Wave. The move is pretty low to the ground and is great for ground rushdown, but Dormammu comes with one of the best anti-ground rushdown moves in the game, Fire Carpet. I have some concerns about the predictability of MODOK’s shield making the assist an easy punish, especially to a Shinkuu, but that will require playtesting for verification. Drones and Air Raid both look amazing, but I am leaning toward Drones more since it gives Dormammu a solid rushdown game.

Of the other characters you listed, X-23’s anti-air might be nice, but we don’t know what kind of (if any) invincibility frames it has. It sure covers a nice area though. The only use I can see Tatsu being used for is a combo extender; something like the following might be possible:
s.L, s. M, s.H, Fire Carpet, Tatsu Assist, Teleport (behind opponent), continue combo from the other side.

That’s a big “maybe” though.

You can use it to start the lockdown, but it’s really better to extend it. If you saw the video of Cold Stars letting Sentinel combo off of his facebeams, it would theoretically work in a similar manner.

I’m really struggling to find team mates to go with the dreaded one in theory.
Every team i think of always centers around Dormammu Ie building meter for him or giving him a chance power up, i kinda wanted an all round team where everybody compliments each other, it’s gonna be really interesting to see who he ends up working best with

Off the top of my head i’m thinking about Dormammu, Sentinel and Chun

Thanks for the input. What u think about the other guys i added to the list? Yeah beams would be MODOK’s achile’s heel since they cut through his shield. Could u please post that coldstars sent video u mentioned?

Remember when I said Dormammu had above average heath, and so did Ryu? …Just saying…

And you were absolutely right sir; praises to you!

Only hypers cut through his shield, not normal beams.

Check the Sentinel thread for the Cold Stars combos; they are also on eventhubs I think.

I am skeptical of Hsien-ko’s Gong just because it does not last very long, and since Dormammu is theoretically primarily doing this to defend against beamers, is it going to be possible to call it out for the half-second it exists in time to counter a beam? It also has the same drawback of MODOK’s shield assist, which is predictability. I still haven’t seen it used, but someone mentioned Amaterasu’s disk assist is the projectile countering version.

All of Trish’s assists are awesome for everyone; they are pretty versatile.

Molecular Shield serves a similar role to Sentinel Force, but with a different direction of travel, its projectiles bunched instead of spread out, and more of them existing. Possibly a taste preference.

Well it stays out quite a while for a reflect, you can just call it out and follow it with your own purification or charge some hands or whatever.

My point is you can’t do it on reaction, you have to spam it; look at the Gamespot tournament video of Magneto’s spam, and tell me Hsien-ko’s Gong can adequately counter that. Maybe it can, but I just don’t see it. I would much rather go with MODOK’s shield, since it lasts longer and protects against all forms of attack.

So after watching that “Decade of Hype” combo video with all the assist relaunches, it got me thinking. Do you guys think Dorm has any assist relaunches? Liberation assist, without charges, lets out a small body-sized energy blast right? Do you think that can OTG like Wesker’s gun assist or something like that? Maybe a Power of the Creator spike assist can OTG into a relaunch in the corner?

Just food for thought.

I doubt 0D:0C can OTG, but it is known for a fact that 0D:1C OTGs and can relaunch, and that he has enough time to charge his hand and unleash the liberation during his opponent’s prone state. At least, he could back in his early gameplay videos. I haven’t heard anything in a long time about that.

Too many players are sleeping on Dormammu, I like it. lol

I think people haven’t gotten past the early (and incorrect) reports of his low health. He’s looking pretty good though.

Sssshhhh don’t alert any to his presence.

people are sleeping on a lot of characters, as per usual only concerned with “how good are the fan favorites”

Well this is becoming redundant if I do say so myself.

Nobody is sleeping on Dormammu. He isnt as all around as the characters getting the most attention, and thats not hard to understand given much of the opportunities people have been given a chance to play the game they dont want to lose and have to go back to waiting 30 minutes to play again. Thats why you see so much Dante. Thats why you see so much Chun.

Dormammu is toast because nobody know how to play with him right now and rushing down is strong.

They are saying the same thing in the Modok thread. “People are sleeping on Modok.”

People are sleeping on anyone not named dante, ammy, storm, sentinel or magneto. Give em time(or a few ass kickings) they will realize the error of their ways.

Dormammu is pretty godlike. Been playing him all day, and he keeps it real lame. He doesn’t have any epic fanciness to his combos, they’re all pretty straight forward, and serve a specific purpose, which is to combo into his super, or get them away from you. He does have problems with rushdown characters if you don’t have a get off me assist tho. I thought he’d be able to run away, but his normals are just so slow. He makes it nearly impossible for non-8 way dash chars to get in without risking it, which is good, but characters with good mobility can be frustrating.

In the end, I think he’s gonna be mid-tier. He can’t keep the pressure up full screen forever, even with good assists, so eventually you gotta fight with him, and pray to baby jesus that your block game is on point.

If anyone has any questions, holla at me, i can probably answer them for you.

Can dorm level 3 otg like magnu’s level 3 and whats its range like?

Edit:Idk I think dorm will have some or at least a bit of fanciness, once we explore the Power of X moves.

yeah he can otg his lvl 3, and they took out the otg properties of his power of the creator spikes, so you can’t otg with them or combo after them unless you xfactor. also you can’t really combo his ground sticky thing unless you use an assist just for that purpose, or do like a 2 hit into it.
