The differences between the different ports of SF3

The emulation of the game data itself might be perfect or close to it, but there are some practical factors that set it apart. Some emulators have input lag, might run the game at the wrong speed (slightly), converters and USB ports aren’t that reliable, etc. I personally wouldn’t play in a tournament that used emulation.

It’s not arcade-perfect, but it’s better than any console port (especially the DC one).

Would you play on a console? 'Cause these are technically less faithful to the arcade board than CPS3 emulation. Yes, even SF Anniversary’s 3S port.

Excellent, I’ll give you men some matches on the lollipops as I’m in New York for December. I expect a beating and a half.

You better get here before Issei leaves :smokin:

Oh man, my flight’s arrives on the 15th! Will he still be around?

I was on CPS3 emulation the day it dropped, I know enough about it to get by. But it’s not always about how good a port is. PS2 might not be arcade perfect but its problems are consistent for every player. Everyone has played that port, almost everyone has a stick that functions reliably on PS2 and the controller ports are designed for gaming, there’s no variable input lag or unpredictable processing issues.

I don’t love console tourneys, but I and I bet most other players would take consistency over a simulated arcade version in a competitive setting.

I’m confused with all the conflicting information here… I have a copy of Anniversary Edition, supplied by Circle Masher auf diese forums

I am planning to run my copy on a 360. Does the game run too fast? Are Urien’s unblockables still there? Which stages can I not super jump in?

for those skeptical about input lag/delay/lost inputs/whatever the technical issue is called/ on ps2 3s, test different lightning leg setups/buffers such as throw then lightning legs, or dash up l.l. in arcade (not emulation) then on ps2 (also test thoroughly -might just be overall game speed fluctuating or other possibilities). I just played ps2 3s for the first time after only playing arcade over the last year or so and i laughed my ass off when i had to hit the button 23452934 times to get ll to come out

game runs weird on 360 for sure. I know yun/yangs stages will slow down a lot if you super jump. Also ryu’s stage if i remember correctly. overall its weird feeling, it sucks it doesn’t really work very well but is emulated. like whats the point if you only go half way…

If you play on 360, stick to Makoto’s stage, that one never slows down. Probably a couple other stages are good, too. Switch the music off so you don’t go insane from hearing the same BGM nonstop. Otherwise, game runs fine besides some sound fx glitches. Who knows if anything subtle changes?

It sucks, but it works if it’s the only choice you have for a 3s fix. Hopefully 3s online will give us a solid port on current gen.

AE is fine for practicing on but I wouldnt want to run tournaments using that version.Dudley’s,Ken’s and Makoto’s stage are the only stages that dont have any slow down on them when the screen scrolls up.

Honestly the best 3rd strike I’ve played is emulated on a mac using Mame OSX.FBA on windows is good but Mame OSX runs the game really really smooth and at a really nice resolution. It’s better than FBA in my opinion but maybe MAME on windows is just as good.

on my laptop i use mamesdl and 3s runs fine but i’d say the best all around experience for emulation is nebula (cps3emulator). input feels sharper and it seems the ‘smoothest’.
