Yeah, the one time I played, Justin was coaching me. I got like a 15 game streak at Magfest… then Justin took me off :sad:
This Power Up drama is some nonsense. Everyone is up in arms about Evo setting this precedent that they can decide what constitutes serious play or not… I’m not so sure they are doing that. They are just saying what they saw, and anyone that’s been in the scene long enough knows that Justin/Floe/Noel top 3, where Justin doesn’t even make it to GF’s, and he’s playing some wacky shit… means he wasn’t trying. I don’t even have to watch the matches to know that. That doesn’t necessarily mean I would make the same call when looking at another player.
The only issue is whether he intentionally threw the match, or if he was just fucking around. That’s my problem here (well, one of them). If he was just fucking around and didn’t care… what… we’re punishing people for not taking the matches as seriously as we’d like them to now? It’s videogames…
Personally, I don’t give a shit if he did just throw the match. If I’ve already been eliminated, or worse yet… if I didn’t even go to the tournament, I have no say on how it plays out. These guys earned their position, and with that position comes the ability to make whatever decisions they want about how the matches will play out. It’s not like people are running books on these matches. Who cares if there is some collusion? These imaginary sponsors? I doubt it.

As strogg said about the brackets… i do have a issue with that but as Rugal has said thats on the organizers cause if that was me… hav…rugal… big eric…whomever that shyt wouldnt have happened during the final 8… i honestly think they knew they could get over. lets be real for a moment. if that was any of the names i posted they wouldnt have even looked at the brackets just bitched afterwards like they did at FINAL ROUND.

Agreed. It shouldn’t matter if he decided to throw the match or not. It just doesn’t make a difference. He’s a grown man he can make his own decisions on if he wants to lose on purpose or not lol
I normally don’t care if people toss matches, split pots, or whatever as a fellow competitor. I really hate it as a spectator and an organizer, but what can you do?
The point being is that Justin split the pot and tossed the matches to give floe/noel brown ranking points towards EVO. That gives EVO the right to say “that’s fucked up and gaming the system”
I agree with EVO’s ruling. At least it sets the precedent “play your fucking matches”
I think other than cosmetic spectator crap (which isn’t an issue), Justin’s actual sponsor and Evo do have the right to judgement based on their expectation. I just happen to think it’s knee jerk and dumb to use a stream for total damning evidence. As for EvilGenius, shit, they pay the guy. I’d be fine if they had a standard of performance for Justin, it’s their money.

Yeah the big issue is evo points. Messing with the brackets and throwing matches so your best friend can get some EVO points is really what pissed evo off. If it wasn’t an evo tourney and they did that just for money, no one would’ve cared. But now they’re fucking with the EVO seeding system so all the best friends can get a nice boost.

At the end of the day it doesn’t affect anyone in MD/VA because we are all, collectively, ass at these games*, and won’t be in the top8 of any major (especially EVO) anytime soon unless shit actually changes.
*(MvC3, SSFIV, MK9, whatever else is actually being played at EVO - Not talking about MVC2, CVS2, etc)
