Isn’t being overweight/obese pretty common among the poor? You can get a whole days calories for like 3 bucks at mc doogles, and you’ll probably feel hungry again in 4 hours. Sadly unhealthy food is cheaper than healthy food.
Actually, the rate of obesity goes way up as the income level goes down. One reason is because the poorer you are, the more likely you’ll go for carb rich, cheap, fast food, you know, like cup ramen, Mcwhatever. Poor folks eat stuff that has been processed, often with high fructose corn syrup. Also, if your body is starving, your body will digest its muscle and store more fat.
Look at these teenagers/20 year olds with their metabolism meter at max who still think good health and nutrition is free. If you’re poor as the family in the article, you’re either rail-thin, or shapeless. Either way, you eat whatever you can afford, and the cheapest food in the US tends to be pre-made crap that doesn’t need to be cooked in a kitchen or stored in a refrigerator (since you usually need a home to use a kitchen or refrigerator)
read the article sounds like they got crippled by health care costs. this is exactly why we need universal health care.
oh and they r fat wtf lulz
Dumb post.
You usually do not post dumb things.
Like, ever.
You DO know what*** property*** really means, right, Rock? :shake:
Laws like that are at the very essence of what the U.S. was meant to be.
- Shit food is the most affordable, as everyone else has mentioned. What they could do is learn to calorie count, at the very least. Sure, you have to live off shit, but if two burgers is your whole day’s calories, then so be it. Cut the thing into quarters and drink water.
- The dude is diabetic. Type 1 or Type 2 is not mentioned, so we’re not sure if its caused by him being fat or if it was inherited.
- A lack of physical activity during the day does more to make you fat than your food does.
That 9 year old girl’s birdhouse is quite impressive. Unfortunately, her talents are probably the result having no distraction a modern home would provide.
I hope they can get themselves out of this rut…

TL;DR - Corporations are raking in the dough at an unprecedented rate, while wages are in the toilet. Also, the top wage-earners are holding the most wealth ever in American history. How about them apples?
Either there’s some kind of master plan at work here, or the internet has made us too passive to care.
No master plan. Capitalism doesn’t work for most. Hard to get ahead in life when everything is against you. Which leads to more people doing illegal things to get paid, which leads to higher incarceration rates, which leads to a fat payday for the privatized prison industry as they now own your life and effectively turn you into a Chinese factory worker.
And yes, technology as a whole has left us disillusioned to the reality that we live in what is easily one of the most corrupt societies on the face of the earth. The internet/video games/movies/music act as escapism from this fact. We grow content and addicted to shiny new things and that keeps us easy to control.
Yeah, okay. I forgot how Walter Cronkite was on the news telling everyone in America there was a bunch of classified documents being freely distributed to anyone with a land line 40 years ago. Remember when we had encrypted, highly anonymous phone calls that couldn’t be traced thanks to government research that went public? Or how about that one time when you got called a communist when you disagreed with the government, the ACLU ran to your defense, and the government got exposed? Man, those were the days. Now people just disappear into thin air and nobody complains - or even knows - about that “patriot act” thing. And now I can’t get this “bigbrother.exe” to stop asking for internet access despite saying “Yes” like 25 fucking times so it’ll stop interrupting my movie. We oughta move to China. I heard they got unions and practically no censorship on their internet.
This thread makes me sad in all sorts of ways.
To the Canads reading this: Didn’t this happen in Edmonton/Calgary a lot a few years back?
That is very sad and depressing. The government of the countries now is insane. They are floating people in debt and poverty. Cost of living is too high for salaries in my opinion. And here is told about America, but what to say about poor countries, where the government is corrupt. For example, in Ukraine, the cost of living is extremely high for 300$ dollars medium salary.
