The Comprehensive Blanka Match Up Thread

completely unrelated to my point, do you play on xbl?

No sorry, I only play on PC and some friends’ Playstation 3’s every once in a while for Super. I don’t know anyone with a 360. I still prefer the original over Super no matter how much I play them both. I probably wasn’t relaying their point very well about Guile vs Blanka, meh.

what do you prefer about vanilla over super?

Balrog my main with blanka on the side. Issues i’m having right now is blockstrings to use against balrog when i get knockdowns. Also i’m wondering about using j.LP more it has more active frames and i’m getting beat out by j.HP from rog when i use j.MK and j.HK. Also what things can i do in strings to get balrog to not throw that many jabs so that way it can open up beast hop setups.

I use meaty cr.lk, cr.lk, st.lp, st.lp. Beats headbutt, recovers in time to block all other reversals. Will also frame-trap jab mashers for counter hit which you can confirm and then either throw in a st.hk or fierce ball somewhere in the middle or at the end of the string depending on the situation.

Don’t randomly jump at Balrog.

cr.lk/cr.mk, st.lp beats jab for counter-hit. At footsie range poke him with mp/hp. On knockdown tick-throw him j.lp. Or use jab->electricity loops.

Hops against 3f jabs are always risky though.

Mostly the cast, I was never big on SF3 and Alpha was alright but the characters they added to Super were meh to me. I also don’t care much for how long some of the U2 take and they’re over the top. Ironically, I liked the EX series back in the day. SFIV is pretty much an extension of what they started with that series, just updated with better graphics and a few new mechanics or whatever.

thanks for feedback ilitirit.

Mullah’s not talking about sliding under a second boom after the first one, he’s talking about sliding ANY boom, period. Reading comprehension is fun!

ilitirit - cr.lk > cr.lk in your blockstring doesn’t counter hit trap boxer if he mashes cr.lp, i think by looking at the numbers it means both attacks come out at the same time, i’d be surprised if blankas cr.lk beats boxers cr.lp clean. i use it myself, but i think its just that people aren’t hitting that reversal cr.lp with boxer.

I was actually referring to the cr.lk -> st.lp part of the string. Meaty cr.lk, cr.lk does trap though (fewer active frames), but the problem is that the opponent’s char pushes you away slightly if he wakes up towards you if you’re point blank and that causes the second cr.lk to whiff if it connects. So the trick is to do a cross-up hop, then do late meaty cr.lk so it hits boxer with it’s last active frame. Easier said than done because you only get 2f leniency on the hop -> meaty. Maybe there’s a guaranteed setup though.

oh nice, i thought he would have been able to get a jab out, frame data is gay

can’t you just do something like c.MK s.LP? c.MK would push them far enough and then s.LP would have advantage on boxer? like c.MK on a hop s.LP xx electricty?

You can do that, but it can lose to super because late meaty cr.mk has 10f recovery and Boxer’s super starts up in 1+8f. And if you don’t do it late, you can get hit by Ultra as well. You also won’t have enough time for a ball combo, but maybe you can add in another s.LP?

Irony meet Boy of Joy, oh, I see you’ve already met. Up your reading comprehension skills, genius.

Anyone figure out how to deal with adons jaguar kick pressure?

Don’t block low.

Block high and punish.

Use long range pokes to counter.

Im gonna work on bison and cammy tonight and will edit my post if I find anything interesting those match ups… dont wanna go super versus battle to get offed because I never done my homework…

Anyways can we do blanka’s 4-6 match ups first please just a request because Im pretty sure if we all work together and stamp out inequality blanka’s bad match ups wont be that bad with everyone working on them

i actually went into training mode after losing to a sim player to find out what beats sims b.lk and lk. apparently nothing beats it, not even standing fierce. i didn’t try cr.hk. this matchup isl ike the guile match, stupid

Regarding Guile’s EX Sonic boom.
Does that move have a Vacuum property? It almost seems to “suck” you in,and hit - Even when you are certain you can react in time, and slide underneath it.
Its hard to even get close to him.

i tried reversal st.hk after blocking sims b.lk and it beats the next b.lk clean, maybe my b.lk timing was 1 frame off, or maybe its just the hitbox differences, but its very useful but hard to do on reaction at first. and st.mp from max range beats or trades favourably with b.lk. still you can only stay in on sim for so long.
