THE Combo Video thread (New Releases + Commentary)

for the win …

KoF Cyberfanatix just added a new KoF99 combo video entitled 2BAD to their basic members section. There’s also a recent KoF97 video there named aMazing. You need a forum membership to access them but it’s free. If you’re into SNK games you’re probably already registered anyway. If not, it’s up to you to decide if you wanna register on yet another website just to download some vids.

(look under Hot Videos in the sidebar on the left)

commentary:
I liked the 2BAD video, even though i remember Viscant telling me a long time ago that KoF99/2k are like old Marvel games where everything you try works. Infinites are all over the place (even moreso than most other KoF games).
In aMazing, they do some awesome stuff using the teammates hanging out in the background. Older KoF games (until KoF98) let you call assists when you’re dizzy and your friendly teammates are onscreen. In one clip, Terry calls Mary just as he recovers from dizzy and the opponent rolls to the other side, into the corner. Since Terry is stuck between Mary and the cornered opponent, he gets like 5 free jabs without being pushed away until Mary jumps out. In another combo, they use Mary to interrupt Benimaru’s puffball super so he can juggle with another one. Then they do like a million more of these assist combos using the same exact setup.

What does it mean when they write “Task Over !!” after a random clip? I’ve seen it in a lot of KoF combo videos, especially common with Kyo.

If Im not wrong is when you perform to much moves/system information in the game, example: everytime who perform a scpecial move you are performing game information, same thing happens when you perform a super move, then you if in a short time your perform a LOT of informations you will make the game to stop/crash meaning that you have drain the game resources (like CPU resources in a PC at home)

I could be wrong and if Im wrong: anyone feel free to post the correct way.

Think of that as SNK’s way of showing you lock up the game.

Henovoke doesn’t update too much more it seems, if you scroll down to the very bottomo there are some “new” Neo Geo Battle Colliseum vids, I swear this game when you play it for awhile gets more boring than any game I have ever played, I mean there are som fun characters, like Lee Pai Long, but overall the game is a little bit meh, The last clip is nice for some Akari action, check ou the badass DP juggle combo, even if the super does almost know damage.

commentary:
This website is pretty cool because it has videos of random games you don’t normally see. The newest video can also be found at the top of the newest update on the right (just under the date). The video itself looks simple and straightforward, but it’s worth checking out just to see the SamSho characters doing supers and stuff in 3D.

Are there any fans of this game out there? How good is the new video? It’s called “Rebel Against The Evil Force” and once you get to the combo movies section you should see the download link.

Can someone host the CFJ Combo Video by kysg??

I can. But will he like it?

It got hosted on ComboVideos.com even before kysg took it down.

Looks like Johnny has an infinite. Maybe they can mash out?

Yeah, just had a pretty large flame war about it at the SDA forums.

I’m also going to do one more CV speedrun (a gift for a friend) and then pretty much quit CV speedrunning for a long while and hopefully come back to combo vids. Very sick of the drama in the speedrunning community.

Persona: Flame war over what? I’m not even sure what the SDA forums are. I just found Bisqwit’s site recently, like a couple of months ago. It seems like it’s been around forever and they have a good website system set up. I just like the crazy stuff they do in old Sega Genesis games i used to play. Seems weird that there would be drama over that stuff. Anyway good to hear that you’ll be making combo videos again. Most of the SNK community only works on emulated games so it’s pretty rare to find videos of the newer titles that aren’t on the emulated hardware.

commentary:
What the hell does MAD mean? There are a lot of crazy setups and glitches in this video and it’s only 3 and a half minutes long so no 5-minute credits sequences! Worth watching if you can access the available mirrors but i don’t think it’s revolutionary or anything. I like all of the stylish crossup stuff he does, but i think the best combo is the KoF99 Seth one at 2:12 where he uses Shermie striker to push him closer to the opponent.

commentary:
Took care of the Capcom half last time. So i’m gonna go through the interesting stuff on the SNK side this time. Keep in mind that they often hit the opponent a bunch of times before the clip starts to extend the combo with a dizzy. Some of the dizzy combos they show don’t inflict 100% stun damage (both Vice combos, second Joe combo, etc) but 3S videos do that shit all the time so whatever.
Terry segment: The first combo works the same way as the Ken combo explained last page. The second combo uses the tech throw glitch to allow Terry to recover early and get ahead of his own LP fireball, which will serve as a combo reset later on. Basically it ties together two separate combos.
Yamazaki segment: When Maki is hit during the landing recovery of her Counter Attack, she just falls down at the end of her hit stun. So after the knife attack is over, Yamazaki uses the juggle potential on the downward arc of his lvl2 antiair super to grab her at the last second. Then he kicks her with some dirt and tacks on that extra snake arm hit using the lvl2 cancel glitch. I found that Maki glitch back in early 2002 when i made that “Randomness” video for Clockw0rk.com so when Sai-Rec first started posting on American forums, i showed them these two basic demo clips and they took it from there:
http://lowfierce.com/zrandom/cvs2makica01.wmv
http://lowfierce.com/zrandom/cvs2makica02.wmv
Vice segment: Neither of the Vice combos inflict enough stun to dizzy Sagat on their own. They set up the dizzy so that at the end of the combo, the number of hits is as high as possible. That first combo is basically seeing how many QCB+K blade kick things they can get in one combo without using CC. Even though they don’t use any meter, the combo probably only works in C-Groove or A-Groove because all other grooves probably jump slower. All other grooves have to account for the possibility of low jump. If the other grooves had such quick jumping animations, it would be way too difficult to get a short jump instead of a normal jump. Yeah there is a lot of “probably” in that sentence, but it’s not exactly easy testing these things to 100% certainty.
Nakoruru segment: First combo uses the same Maki Counter Attack glitch as the Yamazaki combo. Second combo uses Nakoruru’s fireball reflect to hit Joe and still reflect the tornado from his combo super. It’s just a matter of spacing and timing. The cool thing is that the tornado causes hellllla hit stun (just like the rest of the hits in Joe’s combo super). So Nako gets to recover from her reflect thing and comboes a jump attack. That dive attack off the bird juggles because of lvl2 cancel glitch. That’s definately one of the most stylish uses of the glitch.
Joe combo: Last taunt of Dan’s taunt super gives three times as much meter as a normal taunt, which refills over one full level of Joe’s meter right after he does the lvl2 fireball super.
Todo combo: It’s so weird that Todo’s antiair wave and air wave have juggle potentials. It’s even more weird that nobody thought to test them out, cuz that first combo is pretty cool.
Haohmaru segment: They use tech throw reversal glitch to free Rolento from taunt recovery (the same way as they used it on Terry earlier), so he gets to throw a second taunt grenade. Haohmaru uses both grenades as interrupts for his s.HP and does a lot of damage. Notice that there’s no “First Attack” message. That’s because they beat the shit out of Rolento beforehand to get his dizzy resistance up high enough to withstand the first two fierce slashes. Then they made Rolento just defend a bunch of stuff to get his lifebar back up to full. This is all deduction so if you have a better explanation, please share. The second combo works the same way as the Ken combo explained last page but this is my favorite one of the type.
Credits segment: If you’re wondering why GCC and Sonic Hurricane got mentioned at the end, it’s because when the preview for this video was first posted on GCC there was a big thread where Kamui, Gilley, and myself took it apart and analyzed everything. I guess it caught the attention of one of the Sai-Rec members and he came over to explain the two or three things we couldn’t figure out. I wound up establishing email contact with him and sharing a bunch of ideas that ended up in the pseudo-complete version of the full video (Maki glitch, Rolento tripwire cancel, Terry Rising Tackle interrupt into s.HP xx Power Geyser, random info about the way superfireball juggles work, etc.)
Preview segment: For whatever reason, the 21-minute version that got released through SFTChina had the video preview tacked on at the end. As with the intro segment, most of these combos are in the video itself so i’ve gone over them already. The only difference is the glitches, all of which are just typical tech throw reversal stuff (Rolento knives multiplying, Raiden flipping people upside down, and Akuma super FB multiplying to look like a beam super).

Awesome man thanks for the info, it’s sad they never completed it if had been a cvs 2 head at the time it came out I would have totally bought it. Oh and btw, I managed after a little bit of test to get ryus lvl 1 super fireball down to 1 hit and it was the middle hit so it didn’t knock down, now i have to figure out how to make that a combo mostly casue it looks funny.

Edit: how I did it, I had terry throw a slow fireball at the appropriate time that it negated the first hit of the super fireball, and then I used the invincibility from his lvl 2 power geyser to get partway through the second hit while the power geyeser than killed the last hit, so only the middle one hit. and terry didn’t fall over. After some more testing, i’m pretty sure I might be able to get it so, I can nullify just the last hit of ryu’s super fireball with a well timed power geyser, and then use it to do some combo. that would be cool. anyways back to the topic of the thread. combo and match vids!

I heard that akuma beam FB was a gameshark code.

I don’t mind discussing combo ideas in this thread if anyone has some CvS2 stuff they’re working on. You can even post 3S stuff and i’m sure someone like Kamui can help you out with those. I mean, this is SRK - if anyone’s gonna appreciate your random SF ideas, it’s gonna happen here.

I can picture what you’re trying to do and it would be kinda funny to see Ryu’s super FB act so strangely, but the problem is that it travels way too fast for you to add anything else to it. There’s no way Ryu can cover that much distance that quickly. On the other hand, Akuma’s lvl1 super FB is absolutely perfect for this kind of stuff because it’s one of the slowest projectiles in the game. You still can’t add much to it though. Another problem is that Sai-Rec already has a setup for doing multiple super FB’s in one combo by using Rolento’s knives mid-combo to kill the last hit. So then you kind of run into the question of: Is it worth making a smaller combo just to show off a creative new setup? I think it is, and beyond that, i dig creative combo setups more than the combos themselves most of the time. But you’ll always have people who won’t see the point in releasing that type of video.

You heard wrong. Did someone on SRK say that?

Doing the tech throw reversal glitch using Akuma’s super FB against either Kim’s ground combo super or Akuma’s Raging Demon creates the beam.

Speaking of Kamui, those old 3S combo/glitch videos by him and Mopreme rocked. I think they just recently uploaded them to google video so you can go watch em but can’t download them.

Wow, there’s a lot of good 3S stuff on that site. CvS2 players aren’t so lucky. Here are the highlights from my CvS2 search:
