THE Combo Video thread (New Releases + Commentary)

Fair enough. Would you mind going into a little bit more detail? Which tracks didn’t you like and what didn’t you like about them?

It might be a little difficult to tell what’s going on in these videos with just a glance so I put some information in the descriptions.

Just felt like putting up some basic garden variety stuff for M.Hisui for Melty Blood. I tried putting some information in the descriptions.

Cool vids. Are Karin and Rose characters you happen to like or is there something special about their jump attacks that makes this possible? I’ve seen the re-VC infinite with V-Karin before but not many other characters.

I did the Rose one by request because the topic of Rose tech trapping and reactivating popped up in a thread.

And I just did the Karin video to show her command throw bullshit which was supposed to be the main focus of that one. The tech trap and reactivate stuff for her were byproducts.

IMO Karin’s tech traps aren’t as “tight” as Rose’s though. There’s actually ways to escape Karin’s.

Actually I kinda wanted to make a video a while back showing viable escape methods for crossup unblockables and corner unblockables, and escape methods for loose/invalid tech traps. That kind of stuff is pretty draining for me though, and I wasn’t sure if the content would really be understood properly without video editing and stuff. Like just raw content, would people “get it”, you know?

But I digress, technically anyone with an infinite can reactivate but it isn’t always necessary to do so. Chun-Li and Cody can do it but they hardly need to since they can keep the opponent at a comfortable juggle height without having to reactivate. Sodom would be more common though since his CC window is pretty tight, so reactivating with Sodom makes it easier to keep them in the air indefinitely.

But what’s the criteria for having an infinite in the first place? Is it more important to have a quick jump or are the attack properties more important?

Both are important but more-so the attack properties. Example, Rose can only infinite with vertical jumping MP. None of her other attacks will work, and only vertical jump works (not diagonal). Likewise, Karin can only infinite with diagonal/vertical jumping HK.

There’s a little list in this post: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?p=4307595#post4307595

The majority of the characters that have infinites only have one or two attacks they can use to infinite with. Gen for example can only use vertical/diagonal j.LK or diagonal j.MK.

Also, most player 2 infinites are entirely different than player 1 infinites due to the player-2-only corner crossup function. Characters who can perform their infinites with vertical jumps like Sagat, Chun-Li, Rose, Cody, etc aren’t as affected by the P2-only stuff, but a character like P2-Ryu must perform his infinite midscreen due to the nature of the P2-crossup function.

Additionally, all infinites require either a very specific setup or a tech trap. Rolento is the only character that can transition from ground to air without a neutral state due to his command super jump. Every other character must at some point transition from a ground state to a jumping state in order to infinite, and that leaves a window for air teching. And the only “windowless” setups are either air-to-air, after a dizzy, random shadow hits, or in the very special case of Chun-Li’s unblockable. This becomes apparent when you experiment with HSFA.

However there are tech traps as shown in my videos. Because the opponent can not air block immediately after air teching (the tech invulnerability wares off before you’re able to block after an air tech) it’s possible to force a hit regardless of the opponents actions. The exception is forward tech into air activate which can escape a lot of setups. There are still some completely inescapable setups though. And obviously if you’re in A-ism you don’t get air activations so for A-ism the forward-tech-activate is not an option.

Primarily, the first track only. I despise rap, excluding some 80’s stuff. It’s not music anymore. The combo executions were excellent though.
the other tracks were okay.

Put more diverse music genres like Classic rock, Jazz, Blues, and certain atmospheric metal (like black metal), heck even RnB classics. It’s always better to have a large variety in any combo videos. Ode to the 2 Hit Combo is a great example.

I personally found the tracks OK, tho maybe something along the lines of metal or such would’ve been OK.
Majestros could u plz PM me with the first rap track u used?

It’s cool if you don’t like it and it’s even ok if you think it’s crap, but i think that saying it’s not music is going too far. Now admittedly i’m a little biased cuz i know the people who made that first track, but if you ask me, the beat is deep and the lyrics are meaningful. Ok, so the execution is a little rough, but it was made at home, using a regular PC and inexpensive consumer equipment, by two friends who aren’t pros. It’s purely their own creativity and style showing through. Who are you to say that it’s not music? That’s a bit insulting. Personally i really dig that track and i think it worked out great as intro music for the video, especially since hip hop is usually difficult to incorporate into combo videos.

Classic rock, jazz, blues - i’m into all of that. In fact i’ve used jazz and rock in my previous videos, and i’m kinda trying to stay away from metal cuz it’s a little overused in combo videos. Still, if you make a video and use those genres for a soundtrack, i’m down to watch it. But you are contradicting yourself by requesting diversity then drawing up arbitrary lines and limits.

The music choices that jchensor used in Ode to the 2-Hit Combo were indeed great, but i totally disagree that it’s a great example to go by. Cuz it’s too unique and outrageous. That video was split off into very distinct segments, each edited in a completely different style to suit the music. A big part of the reason it worked is cuz all of the clips were like 1 second long or less, permitting a lot of flexibility/variety for creative editing. Another big reason they worked is cuz jchensor worked really hard to make them work. I certainly can’t match his level of video editing expertise.

All of the combos in my Guile video were around 10+ seconds long, plus i tried to make the editing as uniform/lowkey as possible. Do you really think it would have turned out well if the soundtrack consisted of a Star Wars song, a Super Smash Brothers song, and a Big Bad Voodoo Daddy song?

Please understand that i’m not trying to start an argument with you. I’m just trying to show you that picking music for a combo video is a little bit more complicated than listing your favorite bands. It takes a very long time to find something that works. Most song choices will simply refuse to cooperate. In fact, you’ll find that many bands and even some entire genres consistently cause problems when you try to use them as combo video music. Trust me, you are gonna have a HELL of a time trying to put “RnB classics” into a combo video.

Hm, i don’t think it’s posted anywhere. Let me talk to them and i’ll get back to you, cool?

This Tekken 5 combo video was mentioned on kysg’s website:

project HeadHunter by SpaceMan, Velone, Akira, Incognito, Double H

I’ve been having a lot of trouble downloading them cuz their servers suck, but the u2b version works fine.

Dunno much about Tekken but the editing in this video is amazing. That whole last segment blew my mind. How were those even done? As far as i remember, the combo counter doesn’t show up during replays, plus the instant replay doesn’t go back far enough to show the beginnings of all of those combos, does it? Wtf?

Majestros, that was a well thought out response. Thanks

Anytime dude.

nothing special, just testing out the custom colors.

Posted already ?
Is it a real “normal” combo ?

been posted? I dont know

as for the normal combo?
its normal in a sense that you can do it in a game without using any extra options.

but impossible without the use of rapid or auto fire.
they are all kara hits.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=g9LdNV-c36w Its from this.

This is either new or i’ve missed it repeatedly every time i’ve checked this guy’s website:

T-7’s movie preview page

It’s got a lot of youtube links to crazy preview trailers for combo video DVDs that he sells. The KoFXI stuff is really crazy. I mean it’s gotten to the point where there are always like 3-5 characters on the screen, random glitchy offscreen supers all over the place. Wacky, to say the least.

Here’s a link to his main page but it’s pretty much just Japanese text.
