Strong was in over his head with Texas but when a booster says you’d make a good position coach after you’ve been a successful DC and head coach, did he really have any support (from those with deep pockets). I wanted him to succeed but the defense is dreadful and that is his expertise.
Herman is going there if offered, oddly enough when the Big XII chose not to expand, he no longer had any reason to stay at Houston.
Texas didn’t want Strong. The boosters didn’t want Strong. He was on the hot seat from the start unless he managed to turn that program into title contenders quickly and consistently, and that didn’t happen.
Herman may be their guy but I hope he takes the LSU job for the lulz that will be thrown Texas’ way. And also for the conference games against Texas when the Big XII breaks up and they form a super conference with the SEC. Speculation.
