“What should I be doing with my pawns” is kind of a really, really, really difficult question to answer because it’s always really contextual what you should be doing. In general though, wait with moving them too much until your pieces have been put into play (this is key. Get your pieces into play fast), and try to move them in a way that either controls the center, or actively prevents an opponent’s piece from moving.

What do you guys think of this tournament. Have the participants play in a 3 event tournament:
Chess (rules will be the same as the 2020 championship match)
Poker (rules will be the same as the 2020 WSOP Main Event tournament)
Magic (rules will be the same as the 2019 or 2020 world championship tournament)
To determine if one individual is good at all 3 of those games!!!

yeah i am doing the bottle feed and pausing to burp. burping well makes a huge difference!
the rooks are actually crappy units at the start and middle of the game because they take forever to come out like you said. at this stage in the game knights and bishops are actually more powerful. you are supposed to eventually open up lines and fight for control of open files and double up. once the board opens up they become god units. but it wouldn’t make sense to bring them out early on.

My kid is impossible to burp when he’s asleep, it’s luck if he doesn’t wake up in the middle of the night with gas pains.

Interesting, and it makes sense given that it takes practically the jaws of life to get rooks out early on. I’ll have to experiment with some stuff. Do you play on Chess.com? Want to play sometime?

I’ve downloaded the chess app a couple of days ago. It’s something that times change, meaning, like having to make a move within the days limit, instead of 5 minutes. A higher level of patience for me.
