Should Magic the Gathering, poker, and chess be classified as esports? I mean people view them as video games essentiallyâŚ
Chess could get more mainstream if they broadcast big tournaments like the Sinquefield Cup and such on Twitch
This is how much the top chess players make per year. According to the article, it is probably two times as much because of secret envelopes stuffed with cash:

Insightful
Why donât we have female fighting game players that make top 8 in majors?
Judit PolgĂĄr (born 23 July 1976) is a Hungarian chess grandmaster. She is generally considered the strongest female chess player of all time. In 1991, PolgĂĄr achieved the title of Grandmaster at the age of 15 years and 4 months, at the time the youngest to have done so, breaking the record previously held by former World Champion Bobby Fischer. She was the youngest ever player to break into the FIDE Top 100 players rating list, ranking No. 55 in the January 1989 rating list, at the age of 12.[ Sh...
In the January 1989 Elo rating list, at the age of 12, she was rated 2555, which was number 55 in the world and 35 rating points ahead of the Womenâs World Champion Maia Chiburdanidze. In the 6 months since the previous list, she had gained a remarkable 190 rating points.[49][50] Juditâs quiet and modest demeanour at the board[51] contrasted with the intensity of her playing style. David Norwood, British GM, in recalling Judit beating him when he was an established player and she was just a child, described her as âthis cute little auburn-haired monster who crushed youâ.[52] British journalist Dominic Lawson wrote about 12-year-old Juditâs âkillerâ eyes and how she would stare at her opponent: "The irises are so grey so dark they are almost indistinguishable from the pupils. Set against her long red hair, the effect is striking.
Judit is like 41 years old nowâŚ

is this some kind of sick joke? qa5??? some kind of gross modern chess opening - does it work???
@fishjie it doesnât look bad. It pins a pawn, develops a piece and canât be chased away. Inferior yes. But not bad.
Ne2 is some jank shit too by white. Theyâre just trying to introduce complications in the caro-kahn to put a stop to an otherwise drawish game.

i just donât understand the game. ne2??? you block your queen and your own damn bishop
c6??? sure it supports a strong center with a d5 push, but way to block the square for your knight and then qa5 moving out your queen on the second move.
all stuff that the books tell you NOT to do. the books will teach you guiding principles in the opening, but its clear that it all gets thrown into the trash bin at the highest level. nasty
but because these guys have probably memorized whatever gross ugly opening this is to the first 20 lines or so they can get away with it
high level chess is equivalent to high level Street Fighter games. Half the things you donât supposed to do or âplay that wayââŚ
