Ah, I see. Those RSDs have gotten pretty good reviews, but I’ve been so skeptical. It’s hard to believe a pair of comps for that cheap can be so great. Eh, I guess I’d only be out about $90 either way. I need to find a good audio shop around here with a big selection so I can check out other brands.
I had a Type-E, I wasn’t really digging it. My co-worker has a Type-R in his car. Very good install, sounds great. I don’t think I have the skills yet to make a good custom enclosure and such like he does, though.
I’ma need some help from this thread f’real ya’ll.
I’m working with a '95 Nissan 240SX Base (the lightest one)
Now I’m not going to put any subs in it or anything, all I really wanna do is take out the stock bullshit and replace it with aftermarket shit of the same size I don’t wanna drill, replace grills or anything…also a nice decent 1 DIN head unit that can power all this shit, I wanna avoid an amp at all cost if I can also the head unit need to black and low key.
2 6.5’s on the back shelf
2 6.5’s in the front doors (one each)
And SE models came with 3/4in tweeters in the A Pillars and they had factory grills that look clean as fuck (I’m going to track down some SE A Pillars)
What setup will give me the cleanest sound and the richest bass?, I’m thinking componet system like Subs in the rear, Tweeters in the A Pillars but is there a need for any 2 or 3 ways in the doors?
I’ll post interior pics to set ya’ll know what I’m working with.
LATER EDIT:
Doors:
Rear Shelf:
I’m going to replace it with an SE’s Rear Shelf - it has a better looking grills not those punk looking ones.
Alpine Type-R’s are a big jump in sound quality from the Type-E. Type-S is almost as full in sound, but not quite. I think the price difference between the Type-R and Type-S line isn’t especially significant considering the sound quality difference, so springing for the Type-R’s is definitely worth it if you are looking for clarity and power.
I have a set of Alpine Type-R’s in my car… sounds great, pushes a lot of volume cleanly. They don’t sound too bright and I’ve been very happy with them. I had Pioneer speakers before but those don’t even compare to the Type-R’s at all.
I’m not an car audio junky by any means, but I wouldn’t see the need for 2 or 3 way speakers in the doors if you are running quality tweeters in the pillars, unless you were getting really strange acoustics and needed to even out your sound somehow.
If you read an earlier post of mine, your legs are typically blocking the highs, this is why tweeters started ‘migrating’. On top of that if you spend time in the car by yourself, then the passenger side highs hit one ear, and the driver side highs hit your leg…so in essence your frotn stage will sound a bit off. IF you’ve never listened for it - you won’t notice it. But as soon as someone sits down or you cover that grill…you’ll hear it immediatly. So tweeters raise up your front stage. 2-ways refer to the number of sources. The ultimate speaker would be a 1-way, but it just doesn’t work that way, so you want to look at either componenets or 3-ways. 4-ways don’t truthfully bring anything to the table.
So yes get componenets.
As for the th rear fill. sorry the sub won’t work. You still need an amp to push it. It takes 150W RMS max meaning a minimum of say 100W RMS need to be applied. Head-units don’t go beyond 22W RMS thats the strongest I’ve seen. If you want a sub, bite the bullet. You can get light-weight and small subs, but you’ll still need an amp, no way around the equation. Grab a strong set of 2-ways for the rear.
Grab something like an Alpine or Pioneer or Eclipse head-unit all strong in the RMS value department with Pioneer typically being the strongest, but the others being a bit cleaner. Brand match the speakers w/ 6.5 componenets up front and 6.5 2-ways in the rear. Thats the best you can do sans amp. At that point I’d look at an amp/sub ‘combo’ like a bass-tube or something. Not great quality, but light. Sounds like your possibly racing. If thats the case you can also make a ‘removable’ setup for your bass. You could get it setup so you can remove the amp+speakerbox in under a minute.
question… i noticed (last night) when I let the back seats down i get NO inside rattle when the sub is pumpin… but soon as them joints go back up… aw man… so what was the stuff u suggested to look for again…
oh an i wish you were with me monday when i was in pullin into home depot… two spanish boys were askin how did i eliminate that rattle from the subs (i pulled in blastin some old three 6)… i couldnt answer cause they were pushin the infamous md/va latino civic… but what cracked me the hell up was they were getting ready to… sit down for this… put some damn ceiling (u know the pink stuff u put in the ceiling to prevent heat an ac from excapin in your home) insulation in the door an trunk area… i had to walk away…fast…
Is your sub flush against the wooden “plate” on the rear of the seats? Check the top of the rear hatch, there should be plastic there, pull it off and see if the rattle is coming from there.
They were about to Pink Panther their shit??!?!
Isn’t that shit like toxic to your hands? Where the pumping the latin song that everyone has covered? (GAS O LINNNNNNNA!)
yeah ill probably pull it apart this weekend an look
oh yeah they were serious. They had 2 rolls of the pink panther stuff in hand like they are about to put in work… they PROUDLY suggested it to me like they got it from some site online. i cracked up cause they are gonna be itchin like crazy an everything is gonna over heat:rofl:… i just said iiight an kept on walkin…
fuuuuuuck, my somny, CDX-m8800, (lol) gave up on me. It’s stuck in an ever lasting demo mode. I fucking call up sony, and they tell me that their is no start up code, and that my model doesn’t even have a DEMO mode which is fucking crazy…
ANyone know a good deck for cheap? my was good as fuck, even for today… they can send me another one I think, for fuckin 200… it was 600 in 02…
I don’t know a damn thing about car audio but I would like to get a decent system installed in my car sometime this summer. I just want something that sounds clean with a decent bit of bass. I’ve got a 2008 Scion TC and the stock equipment is ok. Maybe Ace and Koop can help me out since they both got TCs.
I was thinking about getting the Pioneer AVIC-D3 Headunit and the Elemental Designs SQ 10 sub with box but I don’t have a clue as to what to get regarding the rest of the speakers, amp, sound dampening, etc.
What exactly are component speakers and is it a big difference between them and regular 6.5s?
Depends on how loud you want your system honestly. I have seen many tC’s with a wide range of system setups. Are you looking for something that is better than stock or do you want to blow roofs of houses? Whats your budget looking like, how deep are you looking to get into it?
