The car sound system thread a.k.a I GOT KING KONG IN THE TRUNK!

…beat me to it…whats the issue…

Got an 06 corolla. I want to replace the radio with a pioneer deh-p7200hd/deh-p4200ub and the speakers either with ts-a1683r with ts-a6973r or ts-d1602r with ts-d6902r, BUT crutchfield is telling me that they wont fit, because they end up being too tall for the grill cover. Im confused since the pioneer site says they should fit (which i bet they would say that since they want to sell product) but crutchfield is rather credible. Do they fit or suggest me something good. Its a basic non-jbl 4 speaker set up. Right now i dont want to put a sub and amp, but maybe down the road. Thinking about replacing the radio myself since the pictures make it look straight froward, but not the speakers. SRK, what say you?!

There is only two ways to see if it will fit

  1. buy the product and test fit meh
  2. Measure it yourself

As someone who was rockin some 6s that ‘fit’ that ‘didn’t fit’, I can tell you that they prolly do ‘technically’ fit, but when cranked up, the excursion of the engine outwards will hit the sheet metal of your car door, making a…well metal on metal noise anytime the cone vibrates heavy. You can look at a different speaker, OR get some rings to raise up the mounting for the speaker(if you like those speakers…tthis is the way to go…dirt cheap wood rings). The stock grills might not work, but yo can stil luse the aftermarket grills at that point.

lol i member i made dual din cd player didnt fit in my truck

Anyone in the DC to NC area range interested in a system? I just got a new car and don’t need my system anymore (or have a use for it), so I’m thinking of putting it up on Craig’s List. Before I do that, I thought I’d hit up SRK first to give you guys a first pass. I don’t have the model information for everything right now as I’m at work, but it includes an alpine head Unit w/ 3 sets of RCA pre-outs, iPod fullspeed cable, 4 channel alpine amp (don’t know size off hand sorry - I think 75x4 @ 4 ohms - but not positive), 2 channel Rockford Fosgate amp - 1200W (reality 400W RMS @ 4ohms), 1 rockford HX2 w/ Q-Logic box, and a second HX2 still in box.

Let me know if anyone is interested. If I get a ‘second’ car in a few years and try to put a system in that, I’ll be looking at all new stuff anyways, so I want a new home for my old stuff (blame toy story 3)

  • :bluu:

oh snap!!! what ya get pimpin???

an you may wanna hit up UMD’s campus yo… my lil cuz says you can sell ish real easy over there…

hit up Dave…IIRC he doens’t have a system in his ride (Sentra)

What whip did you get?

2010 Acura TL in Basque Pearl Red w/ Black Leather Interior - 2WD TECH package…and the best part was my credit has improved so much since college that I qualified for 0.9% financing. I’m trynna be like Ace  girl’s credit score is essentially @ 800, I’m a little over 700 - trynna make that move on up, but thats another thread.

I’ll give Dave a call tonight and ask him, not looking for serious cash, just a home for the stuff. And since I got the whip - in some shape or form I’ll be in NC this weekend, just might have a funeral over in Winston Salem area to go to first  … and if I do have to go to the funeral - Amber’s staying up here as we had another plan set that she’s stil lbeing held to.

  • :bluu:

Both our credit scores are up there at 800 (last check, mine is 2 points lower cause of student loans) but thats irrelevant. Congrats on the whip

Yeah, the lack of a credit card is one of my big detractors, as well, my negative marks from my senior year in college…that last year where I lived off my credit card…are what are preventing me from really climbing the ranks. Once 05 leaves - my score should shoot up.

Man I got ot be real, the system in the Acura is nice…like I’m not rattling the car next to me, it doesn’t have a JL in it (though thats a possability one day as an off shot project…only modification I’m tempted to do as I’d do it on a line level), but the bass is very balanced and smoothe…no farting on anything I’ve thrown at it so far, and it re-created the intro to Speakerboxxx with 97% accuracy…it hit the lows and the low lows acuratly, just not as strong as I’d like for the low lows, but they were there and smoothe. I had to knock treble down a notch and I’d like some more adjustment options, ESPECIALLY for road noise canceling…and it might be there, just don;t know it yet. You’ll har it this weekend B, and Koop - I got to get some matches in with you and MDub, I havne’t [played SSF4 much since I got it since I can never get a match…I got two TEs just sittin there cause of it

  • :bluu:

I got a 2010 camaro but I want a good system without taking up the little room i have

I got no problems with getting a few matches in just let me know when you are down; gotta put them TEs to use sometime. Congrats on the ride glad everything worked out for ya.

I’ve always stated that the tC would be my last car system and its still holding true. I haven’t been car shopping in awhile, but know that systems are becoming more complete from the manufactures. The only thing I might change is the head unit, but even those are becoming more and more like 3rd parties. As for whips in the future, probably going to have to get a full sized SUV for kids/DJ stuff; which i’m not too happy about, but got to make those sacrifices. Was looking at the CX-9 and the Ford Flex.

Unreal - When you come down, I need to check out the size of the TL’s trunk, if it could fit my DJ equip, then I am golden

Edit…Didn’t know Markdub was on here…LOL

What are you looking for out of the system and what kind of budget are you looking at? As well is it the convertable or hardtop? Convertables are problematic for a good system…but its doable.

  • :bluu:

Wel lthe real problem is the newer cars are all coming with consoles, making audio work more difficult to do a ‘good job’ with. If you go wit ha small SUV or full lfedged SUVs there are always places you can put something thats still workable (I love Shaq putting them in the headliner…if he has it adequatly cooled - thats brilliant.

I still don’t get the SUV for kids thing though. Before SUVs - kids rolled around in 4 door sedans…don’t let kids predicate getting an SUV over a sedan. Admittedly 2Drs and smal lcars won’t cut it, but you don’t have to go the SUV route. I got plenty of room for two baby seats and trunk space for two birthing bags and two strollers - AND enough room to make a quick stop at Costco’s for diapers and similac

Honestly, especially after my research and everything…depending on your budget and what your looking for - hell I’d take the AC’s ‘head-unit’ over most store offerings (again I want some more options but they handed me a fuggin BIBLEs worth of documentiaton to read thru…and the shit is all ENGLISH @_@ ) Just make sure to bring the Ipod WITH the USB connector with you when you go car shopping and test it out. Sheeit I was more concerned about that than test driving.

And thanx Dub.

  • :bluu:

I still want to go to McDonald’s and throw a couple Big Mac’s in the trunk so I can drive around singing “Packin a mac in the back of the ac” heh

Not sure it will work for you - its big enough I think based on what I saw, but the shape of it may make putting something in kinda hard, and your not going to be able to push the rear seats down to increase cargo area. The ZDX would be better for that I’d think…horrible for kids though…its like a cross between a 350z and a MDX…yeah exactly…

  • :bluu:

The size isn’t for the kids, its more for the DJ equipment. My family rode across the country (From Inglewood to Washington DC) in a Civic Hatchback. Don’t want something luxury though cause i’d be pissed it I missed up something transporting equipment (hence, the Mazda…no lux in that…LOL)

YEah, fuck equipment on leather lol…
Honda Crosstour might be the win…*shrug, not a huge fan of Mazda right now…their interior is very…‘cheap looking’ from what I saw.

  • :bluu:

Crosstour is the uglies IMO. Don’t really care about interior right now (still in dream stage). I can ALMOST fit everything in the tC but my sub and amp get in the way; or just get a lux car and use the Honda as the main transport, but that would mean Lauren would get dibs on the car…
