He’s got alright frame traps and a good jump speed.

I think the idea is to just get him in there to do his thing and get him out, he’s not meant to last a long time. You also really have to learn to block effectively.

Hey Bonesaw, can you post those j.hp crossups you found? Also, has anyone tested if speedgems might work with special step?

I’m starting to like Bob a lot. He does average damage and can take control of the match once you are in. It is a problem though that he gets rushed quite easily, but that is the least of my worries imo. He does have some good frame traps with his chains and overall his moves are very safe.

I’ll try my best to get something up today; if not, then this weekend for sure.

Edit: As far as I know, speed gems only affect standard movement options. Jump, walk, and dashes. I could be wrong.

Edit 2: Upon returning from the Cross Counter invitational, Steinmania goes out of his way to tell me: “justin [Wong] told me bob sucks.” Take that as you will, gentlemen.

I’m also starting to think Bob has some serious issues. The lousy walkspeed, AWFUL backdash, and trouble with pressure is bad bad news in this game. His damage actually seems not-so-great either, when you compare it to all the easy stuff everyone else can dish out.

I’m not saying he’s junk (not yet anyway, lol) but I really don’t think he’s a top-tier character. Honestly, with the way he plays, he feels like he should have a command throw or something lol

I hope I’m wrong! I’m going to still play him regardless…

Has anyone been taking advantage of his weird jump altering? Like after you do a jump in you can threaten the possibility of a throw at close range, but then neutral jump HP or MK. It alters his jump and is hard to react to. I’ve been using neutral jump Mk a lot naturally as an answer to air to airs and forward ground pressure. It’s pretty good.

Heres a cool set up, land bnb - c.lp c.hp xx ss xx langue washer, c.mp xx hp-cracker xx pound cake. Then charge giga jacker till he brings his hands to his waste (visual cue to kill frames) then dash out and you can either j.mk for cross up, j.hp for non cross up or jump back hp for anti roll set up. Almost impossible to see it is so ambiguous.

Does Bob have an overhead that leads into a combo?

Yeah he has st.mk, hp which causes slide… but its pretty obvious whats happening. Only plus is you can chain it into sweep for a “mixup”

You can also link crouch fierce and go into the full BnB. It’s really late, weird timing though.

I thought d.HK > HK (contorno farce) would be a good move to tag cancel on block as well, to have the incoming guy go low and create an unblockable situation… seems fair, as contorno force really has way too much startup to ever be really useful otherwise, so at least you get something on block, where you’d have to tag anyway…

BUT! It turns out that the opponent can crouch the 2nd hit for free, so you can’t tag cancel it early enough to be safe, and they can always punish you if they block the first hit anyway (crouch attack). That move just got a lot worse in my eyes… and I already thought it was pretty useless. :confused:

I’m thinking Bob must’ve been a boss in beta or something, because it seems like there’s all these little tweaks to bring him down… like he came out of the box pre-nerfed or something lol

Bob’s Spiral rocky has 29 invulnerability frames which seems to be the highest in the game aside from Poison’s backflip. This means it’ll beat out just about any other reversal move if you can predict it, or you can choose to use it for chip as well.

It’s actually pretty damned good for that, but the startup is heinous. Still working on uploading some video for you guys, I promise.

It’s sad how i rarely see Bob players online. He seems fun the few times i’ve used him. His inputs are funky though.

Can anyone help with a few words on what I should be doing with Bob? Vids are so rare for him it is hard for me to be sure.

Like, what are the ways to approach with him and get the damage going? Are his specials able to get him in and close distance or are they strictly used for mixing up mid-combo on block strings?

I’m trying Bob, he’s fun to play, but too dificult to win… ;_;

as of today im trying yoshi/bob for a change of pace sub team

i really just dont get bob at the moment… like i have his bnb down and tagging him in with windmill is cool cause i do j.hk bnb on hit and spinner ball mu on block.
but thats about all i got lol

the only videos i can find are just people trying to hit confirm into bnb…
how much utility can you get from special step outside of combos? i never see anyone use it
so i guess i just need to practice cause he feels freakin weird at the moment

Hey fellas, just wanted to let you know of a stream that some friends of mine are running tonight over at our new project, SDUnity. At least for tonight, the play is to run a ft10 between BT Viscant (Dictator/Gief) vs Steinmania (Julia/Jin) live with commentary in between matches. After they finish, they’ll be taking calls and questions via skype and streamchat.

Regardless of character selection, these are 2 great players that are more than willing to answer any technical or general questions you may have about the game. Even if you don’t care for the character choice today, it’ll be an informative and interesting watch. We here in San Diego play a lot, and Stein has played a crazy rushdown game since day 1 (more like day -6, but that’s beside the point). On top of that, Viscant is a really great technical player that loves to break down the new games and I know for a fact that he has already put an ungodly amount of time into this game. Even though I am not going to be a part of this episode, I’ll be on there in the coming weeks to talk about Bob’s basics and what tech I have found thus far.

i found something really fun today. if this has been mention just overlook it cause im not gonna dig around to find out.
its kind of just a reset right after Gaufrettes Cutter, which is also a reset. and at the 2 or 3 bars this will cost you, the damage isnt groundbreaking (3 - 400s) but its nice way to catch someone off guard and change a match

so say…

cr.LP, cr.LP, s.LP xx s.MK xx s.MP xx s.HP xx EX giga jacker (hold backwards) tag cancel to your parnter for a grounded combo
EX gj will be an ambiguous cross up/fake! depending on how far you were when the s.HP was used. you can tell what side you will come in on but your opponent will not

with no more meter and juri midscreen:

the trick with tag canceling though is that bob takes a second to run off screen so either you have to find a way to eat up some time before you do it, or have a good meterless combo
