The Blu-ray Thread v1.0

I don’t think TWBA will ever be released on BD, but then again, I definitely didn’t expect a second Casino Royale to be released.

Picked up the Pirates trilogy yesterday for $25, sealed. I think the guy working there was new and dumb, because the single movies are $25 each. Score for me.

Just picked up Speed Racer too. Very nice visuals, audio sucks. Good use of surround and sub, but the quality is pretty bad for Blu-ray. I hope it wasn’t the stupid game disc or the “digital copy” bullshit that forced them to cut lossless from the feature disc. Really fucking cheezy but awesome movie to show off your TV + BD player.

What is TWBA? And hell no, I’m not double-dipping on Casino Royale until Blu-ray’s successor comes out in 10+ years.

“The Whole Bloody Affair” The seeming to never be released Kill Bill edition that is the whole movie before he edited it into two films, and uncut. I never bought the DVD’s of Kill Bill because of waiting for it. The Blu-rays got such good reviews that I just said fuck it and picked them up, I don’t regret it.

I will sadly buy TWBA whenever it is released though, if ever. And what is the difference on the new Casino Royale? The one I own already is one of my favorite Blu-rays.

I have no idea what’s different with the new Casino Royale. Just that it’s a 2-disc set loaded with special features, and the cover is 10x cooler.

Casino Royale is one of my favorite Blu-rays too (and favorite movies), but I don’t think there’s much they can do to improve on the picture and sound quality to warrant a double dip from me, and I’ve wasted tons of money double dipping on titles I already own on DVD.

As for Kill Bill, I don’t have the Blu-rays yet (Canada doesn’t get it until October) but I heard they’re near-perfect.

What’s the best affordable home theater system for a ps3 setup? Suggestions for a specific home theater system in a box is fine. I need good quality but also affordable.

What kind of inputs should the home theater system have? Hdmi?

Are wireless rear speakers inferior or what?

It really depends on your budget. I’d recommend against a home theater in a box. You won’t get full mileage out of your PS3’s capabilities with them. The jump in sound quality by getting an entry-level surround system instead is enormous. You’ll need:

-A/V Receiver
-5.0 or 7.0 set of speakers
-A sub
-speaker wire & connectors

Again, it really really depends on your budget. Specify how much you’re willing to spend.

An entry level system of what you just described above, how much would that cost?

I’d say at least maybe $1000-ish. You might even be able to get a good system for 800-ish.

Here’s a pretty good 6.1 speaker set for $600. A lot of people consider it the best sounding surround speakers you can get for under $700.

You can probably get a good entry-level HDMI receiver for $400-ish or less.

Then you’ll need wires/cables/connectors (Maybe $30 total), and a way to set up the speakers (stands/mounts).

So, I watched Speed Racer and The Fall in the past few days. Speed Racer was nice to look at and enjoyable at times, but overall, the movie was just okay.

The Fall had some really nice imagery (the backgrounds and colors were great!), and it was really good. I didn’t know what to expect when I popped it in, but I’m glad I stayed up late last night to watch it. Recommended.

Odd question: Do you guys keep the cardboard sleeves/boxes that come with your Blu-rays?

For me: Some I do, some I don’t. I throw away the generic cardboard sleeves like Cars, Ratatouille and Speed Racer. I kept the plastic sleeve for Transformers, the thick cardboard for Planet Earth, the the three-pack box for PotC and Spiderman Trilogies.

I actually thought Speed Racer was going to suck, so it surprised me in being a pretty good movie, and visually awesome. The Fall on the other hand, I had really high hopes for it after reading many glowing reviews. Don’t get me wrong, I thought it was a really good movie, I just thought it would be better for some reason.

Only Blu-ray I have with that now is Transformers, I kept it on. I do have a lot of DVD’s though with them, and I generally leave them on. The Sin City special edition one is particularly annoying, but I keep it anyway.

Copped Sleeping Beauty on Blu Ray.

wowzers! It looks incredible! Go get it NOW.

The disney cartoon?

Blockbuster Online is now listing upcoming releases that Amazon doesn’t even have for preorder yet (which is stupid because they don’t tell you that these aren’t available until you try to en queue them). Anyway, one of them is Lucky Number S7evin, which I can’t wait to see on Blu.

Help SRK, I just ordered a Warehouse deal (opened) Planet Earth set. The Blu Ray case is in sad shape, does anyone know of any site where I can buy a 4 disc Blu Ray case?

I mean, you could probably just order/buy it again from somewhere else and then return the first one you got.

How is The Godfather bluray set?

Yeah I could, but the sweet price of $46 dollars won’t be matched. I guess it was really cheap for a reason.

Yes. It looks like the fucking Animation cel clarity in motion.

I’m picking this up sometime this week. I saw on the commercial that they “expanded” for widescreen… is this stuff that was originally cut off, or did they add extra stuff on the sides?
