Worst thing I ever saw was that Live Action Korean SF show…good god.
Of course nothing could be worse than my lil comic I made back in the day. Keep in mind I was like… 14 or 15 at the time, SF2 and SF2 Turbo were rippin up the SNES and the only story I knew at the time were from the game endings, the magazines and the (wrong) info in the instruction manuals. They were simple, but eh, it had a small fanbase in high school, as long as Bison was the bad guy and the SF guys were kickin ass and takin names…
Story kinda went like this…
The SF 2 tournament is gonna begin and the 8 World Warriors are set up in this hotel to get ready for the big match (geez, the hotel seemed like a big apartment or something for all 8 of em to live together like roomies, but anyways). The tournament guys held some kind of pre-show to give the general public an example of what the SF-ers can do to hype up the tournament I guess. But noone would win any matches cause Bison would mess up all the fights, things like holes in the ring to fall through, making the floor slippery, etc. Chun Li and Guile would investigate this guy and find out that he’s of course, M.Bison, killer of Charlie and Chun Li’s father, and current SF2 Champ. Apparently in my version (like the Capcom manuals at the time said) some time ago in Thailand, Guile and Charlie were captured, and as they escaped, Bison gunned Charlie down with a shotgun. And for Chun Li’s case, Bison raged some kinda war in China, which he lost, thanks to Chun Li’s father leading the attack, but Bison would suddenly appear out of nowhere and do that Head Stomp, snapping his neck right in front of 5 year old Chun Li.
So yeah, Chun Li and Guile head after Bison, they fight it out, Bison tries to shoot Guile with the same shotgun he used to kill Charlie, Guile Flash Kicks Bison’s ass, and for some reason or another Guile lets Bison live (I’m not a murdered) and Guile and Chun Li leave Bison a battered piece of crap, but still alive.
The story continues as Balrog joins the WW as a ‘good guy’, but he’s really a spy sent by Bison to steal Ryu’s SF1 Trophy (apparently in my version as a kid, Bison wants nothing more than to protect his SF2 Trophy and steal the SF1 Trophy as well). Bison challenged Ryu to a fight in Vegas for the trophy, which of course Ryu would win, and Dhalism and Zangief guard the hotel from Bison, who tried to attack it while everyone was off to Vegas to root for Ryu.
The next one was about Vega, as a standalone villian. I fogot why, but he kindapped Chun Li and the SF-ers have to go to his mansion to save her. Said mansion had Vega’s pet panther, some acrobatic girls with whips and a hall of mirrors. And Honda hates Vega cause apparently some time ago Vega kicked his ass and made fun of the Sumo sport. Of course they save Chunners and kick his ass.
Then we’re introduced to Sagat, which of course hates Ryu cause of the scar and losing the trophy to him. The bad guys kidnap Ryu so Sagat can beat on his ass. The other guys go to save Ryu and beat back Bison and Balrog while Ryu defeats Sagat.
Then we have some kind of Battle Royale where the winner gets to be in the first matches in the tournament or something. It had all 11 fighters (cept Vega), and somehow Zangief won (forgot how the hell they ever got past Bison, but aw well). Vega would come in out of nowhere, Air Suplex Zangief’s ass and win the fight. Later Bison, Balrog and Sagat would kick the crap out of Vega for interfering in the fight (dunno why since all 3 of em lost anyways, but I guess I wanted to build more animosity between them and Vega).
The comic ended with the SF2 tournament finally starting, the first match being between Ryu and Ken, to finally see who the real pro of Shotokan was (so sue me, that’s what the booklets said at the time…). Said match would be interrupted by Sagat that demanded the right to fight with Ryu since he was scarred and all that. Well, from then I moved to Mexico, leaving the fanbase behind, and real life got in the way so the comic ended there in mid-fight. I still wonder what woulda been if I had moved one year later. I wondered how I was gonna fit the 4 New Challengers and Akuma into the mix had I kept going.
But anyways… those were the ramblings of a nostalgic old fool remembering the fun hobby of drawing SF comics during my high school days, that at least for a short time had my school buddies and the guys at the local arcade readin em and asking me when the next issue was due…
I always liked the soundtrack for the American release. The music just worked for me.

And I’m sorry, I can’t bring myself to hate that because of two reasons.
a)It’s prophetic, it predicted Blanka’s CvS2 shtick.
b)Double Shinkuu Hadouken to the crotch

I see some people were bashing the cartoon version. But when you think about it, it did justice for the bad live adaptation. It was a good series, episode 14-26 took a more darker role, as 1-13 just took a kid role. USA Cartoon even mentioned something about that. I believe the cartoon version was indeed very americanized, but decent with it’s storylines (which…blame capcom of USA in the beginning, used it, confusing me completely) but yeah…
and I agree with everyone else…Udon is good, Tokuma is also good, etc.

models aren’t that bad either! I didnt like Ryu’s
voice though. Now if there was a Street Fighter

dunno what’s worse… sakura having those teeth, or having a horrible herpes rash on her belly… shudders

It’s available on DVD from ADV, probably find it for $20 on ebay for both now. (sets are split by 13 eps, season)
