The BERKELEY EUDEMONIA Legacy (relocating to the SFSU Dojo thread!)

Hello. Here is a somewhat modified post I made in the SFSU dojo thread. I’m sure at least a few of you will be interested to hear that I have in fact come through after two days of running around nor cal, dealing with craigslist scammers, and finally obtaining a burned copy and flashing my second xbox which as a philips drive, one of the hardest to flash since it requires soldering.

So here’s the read:

So I already mentioned I can’t make it to the city tomorrow in the SFSU thread…BUT…in the evening, probably after 7, people are welcome to come over to play some MVC3. Yes, MVC3.

Is it good? Yes.

Was it worth the ridiculous amount of effort I went to get an early copy?

Actually, YES!

Apologies to Chrisis and DKL for not showing up. On Friday I got scammed by a craigslister. long story short, I have been to Vallejo twice, the city once, and San Jose once and multiple trips in the general east bay area for tools and non gaming related errands…all within the past two days. Good news is…well the rest of this post.

So if you can’t wait till Monday’s midnight release, I’m down to have like 5 people or so over to play some casuals. I would bring my setup to an already established spot like Chrisis’ or DKL’s but I’d prefer not to carry anymore things anywhere…if you knew what I was up to the past two days you’d understand not wanting to pack up the xbox yet again for travel. We can get jiggy, get some beers if thats your thing (not me but youre welcome to drink), sodas if thats your thing (me!) and some junk food (universal for gamers), play some casuals and then call it a night till the official release the next day at 12.

I live in West Oakland. I elaborated on how this can be an issue for some in the SFSU thread. I wont repeat it here, just that if you have a problem, obviously you wont come. No one in my house has ever had their car broken into on our block. You should be safe, but no guarantees and I take no responsibility for your shite.

I have work on Monday but I don’t have to leave till about 2:00 pm, so I’m up for late night sessions as well or however long people want to play, test stuff out etc.

I’m running through mission mode and arcade mode tonight to get familiar with my potential team(s) and unlock the four chars so those interested in playing lei, sent, task, or akuma can do so.

Alright, hope to see some of you guys tomorrow evening. PM me for details.

I cleared my inbox…thanks to tasty lumpia for letting me know.

if u tried to pm me earlier but couldnt, try now.

Sorry that you had to go through so much trouble man! I’m glad that it was awesome enough to be worth the effort!

Zenia’s command dash is BS. Not only does it have upper-body invincibility, the overhead follow-up has lower body invuln.

>_<

yesterday was an awesome session! can’t make it today to sfsu.

Awww. We haven’t done Cammy v Vega in forever!

For DKL once your done with that MvC3 crack, too funny

YouTube - Street Fighter is Hard #11 - Dudley

GGs today, that Mahvel crack is amazing, EM disrupter x 50 is not a combo DKL. :stuck_out_tongue:

MvC3 was amazing. Thanks again for hosting Laudanum!

also, half health phoenix dying to one hit of lv3 x-factor sentinel, reviving, then dying 2 seconds later to 2 hits from sentinel was amazing…

My poor dark phoenix X_X

I was watching Marn use Phoenix and the best way to use her is to apparently have X-Factor stocked when she goes into Dark Phoenix.

Or you just lame it out and don’t let Dark Phoenix into the match at all.

I will most likely find something more broken to spam when we go into training mode.

========

Few particular things about MVC3 that caught my eye:

-forward-backward tech

It seems very easy to tech when the game gives you the ability to tech; you just hold forward or backwards when you get knocked down.

I’m very interested in the recovery properties of teching.

-when you use X-Factor
-how fast tagged out assists recharge

I’m under the impression that alpha tagging or whatever it’s called will likely be the best option during scenarios in which you are about to be chipped to death. Like, as opposed to burning X-Factor early in the game to take no chip, you’re likely better off just taking chip for the on-point character and damage for the tagged-in character…

Health when tagged out regens REALLY fast (my sentinel assist was practically dead at one point, but came into the match with 3/4 of health he lost when he got tagged in)… so, I’m kinda interested in how red-life functions… is it better or worse during X-Factor? Is it better or worse for you when X-Factor is used on you?

With regards to burning X-Factor, it’s incredibly useful for comebacks at the end of the game when you just have one character left: chip and damage output gets REALLY out there when you’ve got this on.

And if you don’t have X-Factor to counter X-Factor, you’re kinda screwed.

-Assists

Assists take a long time to come in and recover for a long time when they’re active attack time is over.

Combined with the fact that assists don’t have damage proration when attacked, it seems pretty apparent that you can’t use assists like how they were used in MVC2…

Assists seem primarily for pressure now and not a whole lof of them seem like they can be used for easy-reversals during a hole in an opponent’s block string.

Like, you can leave a hole in your block string, your opponent calls an assist, you then continue a new block/combo string and you will likely hit the assist before he/she goes active.

(Sentinel appears BEHIND me when I call for him, but he’s still getting hit and can’t send out drones)

Best case scenario is that you block during the tag and advancing guard your opponent away… but if you push a button and don’t guess correctly, both you and the assist will eat it.

-how much playing field space they give you
-how far you’re pushed back during advancing guard

The game has the potential to put a lot of horizontal distance between you and the opponent… the game also has moves like Magneto’s Disruptor that get full-screen REALLY fast. It also seems like you can combo into Deadpool’s super guns from full screen from regular guns.

So, I’m not completely sure how other characters are supposed to get in.

I tried She-hulk and was completely baffled at how I was supposed to cover so much screen space in order to get in and start pressure with her. You can jump off the walls and shit, but I don’t know how far that will get you.

Also, because of the large playing field, it seems easy to randomly tag in an assist if you get far enough without having them punished too badly (unless you’re playing against Storm)…

Or, you advancing guard someone’s pressure and then tag: they get pushed so far back that it will likely create enough space between you and the opponent to bring your people in relatively safely.

==========

Anyway, lots of interesting things I noticed… I’m now just ready to get the game in my hands and to see how everything really works.

Oh Tastylumpia, you forgot your stick in the trunk of my brother’s car yesterday. We’ll hold on to it until we find a way to return it to you.

On some of the things you said DKL:

-People who are not on point do recover life more quickly than in Marvel 2 by a significant deal. X-factor makes your point character regenerate life and makes your assists regenerate life faster.
-I think chip damage with or without X-factor is really stupid, that early match where I had being Dormammu as the primary example, agreed that saving X-factor just not to die to chip may sometimes be really important.
-I need more time with assists to validate what your initial position on them is, but I’m inclined to tentatively agree with you about them being for pressure/mix up as opposed to defense.
-Deadpool has easy mode damage in a lot of situations, full screen guns, super jump angle guns, etc. =/ And it’s safe fuuuuuuuu.
-We will find you even better things to spam tonight.

Good (bad for Chrisis?) news guys (kinda)
Shoryuken - Arcana Heart 3 Coming to North America as a Downloadable Title

>< I left my stick. Anyway, GGs to:

-Heavy VLXs
-Easy unlocks
-Free pizza
-Insane chip damage
-Maximum Wesker
-Phoenix troll health
-EZ mode Dante combos

A couple things I found:
-Sentinel drones have gaps in blockstun so you can use them to cross up
-Some characters can KFC a level 1 into a level 3 for major damage.
-Most power up supers seem safe, Dante and Zero can combo into and out of their supers and use them as safe DHCs
-A bunch of characters have America’s favorite DHC, like in the Marn/Nerdjosh FT10, the trick is finding supers that don’t prorate as much.

And some pringles:

So, as per tao’s request, I’m posting what I found out about x-23. Note that this was mostly while Chrisis was bodying us, so take it with a grain of salt…

She seems like the fastest character on the roster, at least on the ground. No air dash/double jump/teleport make it kinda hard for her to get in on disruptor spam(aka DKL special) or other moves that can kinda control the ground. She might be able to use her air dive attack(236 a/b/c), but i get the feeling you would be kinda vulnerable after it. also, she doesn’t seem to have an OTG outside of assists(or I couldn’t find one…). I think her ankle slice assist hits low, so it might be useful for unblockable setups. Her dp assist is kinda slow to come out, so might not be too useful as a get-off-me assist(which seems to be the trend with most assists). Her health and damage seem below average, which is kinda expected with fast characters. In conclusion, although I played her for a big part of the night, I couldn’t find out much >_>’

Thanks for the notes, I hope to give her a spin very soon! And thanks to DKL for the extended writeup!

I’m definitely getting PSN arcana if it comes out before the UK (disc) version.

…The game still sucks!

Oh, what button layout were u guys using?

Nice bumping into tao at the Powell Gamestop, lol. I had to win a few games in the store setup to stay out of the cold. FREE ENERGY DRINKS! Get hype for no sleep.

Got me a nice new copy + the strategy guide. Really, this is the best “official” strategy guide I’ve ever seen for any fighting game. The BnBs are actually practical combos and the “advanced strategy” section actually has some nice tricks, go figure. If anything else, it’s a good reference for frame data.

EDIT: STSFN, lol.

Hope to see you guys on Fri/Sat. I have so much stuff I want to try out live.

Heh. Small world. Having familiar faces around certainly helped the wait feel shorter!

Now, to figure this game out… So far I can’t do any double jump air-combos in mission mode X_X

RED SHOES RYU FTW
Whoops! Browser Settings Incompatible

This game is incredibly fun and scrubby at the same time, I hit some like 90 hit gaugeless chun combos last night thanks to her being GDLK again. I found too many fun characters! X_X
