Just a note to those who played against me on Saturday. Against Boxer, you can abuse Focus Attack against Boxer outside of cr. jab range and especially outside of far jab range. At that range you can try to catch a poke like cr. roundhouse, far roundhouse, or far fierce. Even if you don’t catch anything, a level 2 FA can give you a chance to dash in for pressure, or dash back to give yourself space. From even farther you can hope to catch a Dashing Straight. Boxer’s armor breakers are Dashing Smash (df + kick rush punch), Dash Swing Blow (over head), and Turn Around Punch. Only the EX version of Smash is safe on block (everything else is -5 or worse). DSB is never used as a armor break. And TAP is slower than molasses. So Boxer has no real good options to deal with Focus baiting outside of st. jab range or committing to one of the previously mentioned moves. Except when he has super. If he has super, Boxer can Dashing Straight XX super.
Chrisis, if you believe otherwise, feel free to disagree. These are just my thoughts after encountering people who have Focus baited me up the wazoo.
Theory Fighter! I like to discuss this further:
I always hear that focus fishing works well against Boxer, but I quickly see diminishing returns on it. If Rog spaces his straights really well, my focus attack will often whiff. I can instead just dash cancel forward, but then I’m left with scratch (gray) damage that forces me to do a conservative mixup. If I dash backwards, then I’m taking scratch damage and putting myself in the corner (Cammy/Rog feels like GGPO in the corner ).
Rog’s cancel-able low strong, has caused me grief in the past when focusing outside jab range.
It could just be my poor timing with focus and FA2 pressure in general (need more practice in that dept. Against Rog’s sweep especially). Right now, I get far better results either whiff punishing or stuffing his rushes when I’m in footsie range. But at the same time, I sure do get tripped alot!
GGs last Saturday… yes, I’m too lazy to post on the internets, but the extra session at Zaku and MaNoel’s house was epic; I LOST MY FIGHT MONEY.
ALSO, sorry to the people who showed up at EU; we’ll try to coordinate things better next time in order to get everyone in one place.
Though, I think what’s gonna happen now is that we may be going to SFSU every week from now on depending on how that works out (V is currently in the process of talking to his bosses to have it every week).
That said, the plan for this Saturday is to go to Shytzoo’s place…
I need his number, however; I still don’t have a lot of my contacts.
Actually, can someone PM Patrick’s number (Zaku?)?
We’re suppose to go to Starbase this Wednesday with Rodney, but I don’t have… anyone’s number.
Good points. Focus fishing is probably best against Boxer at his far/cr. roundhouse range or farther. Maybe some Boxer players can react to their opponents holding focus, but I have to anticipate it. So when I throw out a EX Smash or a TAP, I have to make sure I want to do that. EX Smash costs me a bar (which Boxer needs for defense) and TAP is easily punished if my opponent jumps. So if you start focus fishing, you’ll either catch my dash straight (assuming you don’t wiff) or you’ll get me to think about using Smash or TAP. Once I start thinking about that, my attention is that much more divided and if I do use one move or the other, I have to make a substantial commitment.
As for the whole wiffing thing, I’ve actually never really seen that happen. I’ve only gotten focus fished by Chun and Ryu players, though, so it might be character specific.
Yes, Starbase is still on this Wednesday. Is it just Dom and Patrick for now?
Focus against Boxer is very character dependent and play style dependent, it’s excellent against Boxers like me who throw out way too many dash straights for ‘free’ chip. However if you focus bait against Boxers who actually use their crouch strong correctly you die for free, Rog’s armor breakers aren’t really that useful against focus, however the excellent ability to cancel some really long range normals lets the 2 hits beast armor fairly well. It’s incredibly safe to focus bait at a certain range if the Boxer has moderate reactions and your character has a decent dash.
That said, focus works against a lot of situations you’ll be in at the point where his crouch roundhouse is safe on block against most characters. Stand roundhouse, crouch roundhouse, and stand fierce are all easily smacked with it if the person throws them out predictably.
Other things to note At least from vanilla when fighting Boxer. As long as you keep his EX rushes in mind he has terrible wake up options if you have good timing safe jumping on Rog is very easy. If the Boxer likes to TAP too much get into the range where he likes to use it to go through something then tap forward and jab/short wait throw, it’s surprisingly powerful against TAP. Make sure you’re not fighting Rog where he’s most comfortable, if your character has ranged zoning do it, Rog’s normals are good and although he doesn’t have good mix up, actively escaping his pressure can be hard.
EX rushes are only worth the gauge when something’s already coming, if he fishes with EX rush just no fear throw, if he’s glowing yellow and not headbutt laughing you can throw him. Beware Rog when he has 2 gauges, if he has presence of mind he can easily do a double EX rush upper loop into a hard knock down, I don’t go for it, but if a Boxer is calm and collected he’ll resist the urge to just headbutt and turn every long range poke into damage.
I agree with 1hit parry. ^.^
Can you text me so I can save your number?
(also, I could use Paul’s number too)
I’m still amazed that I managed to delete all of my contacts.
I’m going but I’m too far away to carpool with you guys, I’ll bus it there, most likely.
Even with Cammy’s substandard grab range, no fear throw against Rog EX rush is too good! Not to mention the backthrow mixups I get after.
I haven’t tried step-forward jab/short against TAPs, I usually try low forward and eat glove, good stuff! I plan to practice punishing TAP on reaction sometime this week.
Doesn’t EX Rush Upper blow up safe jumps? I haven’t tested recently (I can safe jump a little better nowadays), but in the lab, I couldn’t safe jump that move at all.
I guess the lesson is to focus charge often but be aware of if/when the Boxer player adapts?
I have never seen Rog’s Fierce punch before in a match…
With DKL picking Cammy up and Rufio returning, we should do a Cammy vs Rog team battle at some point.
:nono:
Eudemonia’s stick has a broken roundhouse button, so I had to make do with fierce instead until I reconfigured my buttons. : (
Rog’s stand fierce is very useful in certain matches, I <3 fierce when fighting Ryu since you can walk forward lose charge and punish him when he does a predictable fireball, and it’s one of the attacks where trading is 99% of the time going to be good for Rog and bad for the opponent.
EX rush upper fails against good safe jumps, you need to be aware though since you’ll get tagged during your time with tripguard gone by it so super meaty jump in then reversal type move does 2 hits of counterhit damage and hurts Rog, and if you time things right cross ups eat rog especially if you’re crossing him up and getting out of the corner since if timed right EX rush runs away into a spot where you can hit him afterward.
Most people can’t get good safe jumps however. They should play more ST. >.>;
Far fierce also looks really manly. Boxer sticks his hand in someone’s face and leaves it there for a second. But far roundhouse is usually better than far fierce because it’s faster and safer.
And a hustler…hahahaha and congrats to all the winnings this passed weekend. did anyone record the fights? and where are we meeting this weekend? EU or SFSU?
Yes.
But what team will I play on? I play some Cammy too.
We shall be tean thong.
yo DKL… the session is actually on friday. the last session was on a saturday due to some weird scheduling shit. my number is 925-768-2649. hit me up.
Team Cammy v Team Boxer at Eudemonia 12.11.2010!
Looks like we’ll have our Saturday session at EU this week. That in mind and this likely being my last session for 2010, I wanna do Cammy / Boxer Exhibition!
Interested people should post up and let me know what team they wanna represent. There will be as many slots as there are participants, but I’d like to keep it even. Any ideas to make this matchup extra hype are welcome.
Team Cammy White aka Team Stupid Strike aka Team Thong aka Team Sako Combos
Team Boxer aka Team Balrog aka Team Mike Bison aka Team ‘What’s a Kick?’
The exhibition is on Saturday at EU, we’ll most likely will kick it off around 7-7:30 to accommodate everyone. I’m thinking we’ll do a round-robin similar to how Season’s Beatings did USA v The World:
-Team order determined prior to start of exhibition
-‘home’ team determined by coin toss.
-Each member of ‘visitor’ stays on station until they fought every member of ‘home’ team
-Winning team determined by total matches won
If people are heading to Shytzoo’s on Friday and can give me a ride they’re Sentinel tier awesome <3.
As for What’s a kick v thong, Chrisis will rep Boxer and split personality Chrisis will rep Cammy. >.>;
Damn, Zaku, can you make this one?
But, yes…
I need to stop being lazy and get organized…
I’d love to join, but I’m not sure if I can make it. This week will be busy for me.
