The BERKELEY EUDEMONIA Legacy (relocating to the SFSU Dojo thread!)

Blah. $10 to enter for a $40 gift certificate? I might pass on that one. Also, I’ve notice my Vega game has really plateaued as of late. I’m not sure what the problem is exactly, but my BP fell from 5100 to around 4700. I think I’m becoming too predictable and that my defense is suffering a lot (I usually get rated A in offense but like C or below in defense).

I also tried dabbling around with Fei Long but I cannot, for the love of God, hit the Rekka’s consistently. I really want to learn to play him though since he’s just something completely different from what I’m use to playing. Otherwise, I’m thinking about picking up Guile or maybe Ken (for flowchart madness!).

I can sort of play with Chun (it’s good for some matches), but I’ll likely be sticking with Dudley for now (cannot focus bait him too well, for one thing).

Also, the $10 isn’t specifically for the tournament: it’s to get into the convention.

You can actually enter the Brawl and BBCS tourneys as well.

Then there’s a bunch of other things, but I’m under the impression that whoever goes will likely just stay in the game room all day playing SF (so, essentially, it’s $10 per person to play SUPER for the entire day).

That said, gonna get some games in and then I’ll proceed immediately to SUPER and MVC2 practice; I’m likely going to learn Dudley’s cr. HP link since it’s a great punish that I haven’t been using.

Offline sessions, esp. tourneys, are a great way to deal with plateauing IMHO. There’s just so much randomness online (ranked especially) with the netcode and ‘bizarre’ playstyles that it’s hard to really gauge your performance. Offline, there’s more quality matches for you to reflect on and plenty of knowledged players willing to offer advice and point out parts of the match where you got out-played.

This past weekend for instance, I now know my frame traps aren’t ‘inviting’ enough and I’m generally not creating early momentum for myself unless my opponent does something silly or I get a lucky read. I also tend get myself cornered constantly as a result of my slow starts. Thanks to Chrisis, I know I still have much to learn about fighting solid Boxers; aside from it being Cammy’s worst matchup, I need to explore more of my midrange options so I can stop walking into Dash Straights

As a result, I made some new realizations after looking at recent Japanese Cammy vids. Hopefully, I can break through my mental plateau in the near future, and step up my game as a result

Apparently, you can train links by doing a combo over and over until you get it 30 times in a row without dropping it…

I should try that.

Anyway, currently done with SF4 today and will hit training mode in MVC2 later after I get done with some Castlevania

Must finish game before Saturday when Kirby comes out…

Online rankings don’t mean $@#%…

[LIST]
[]The biggest factor is the amount of time you spend. I have a 10,000 BP vega/4,000 PP but I haven’t touched XBL for 2 months. I was like #25th vega but now i’m probably like 50th.
[
] Your ranking can vary wildly not just day to day, but hour by hour… I could easily drop or gain 1,000+ PP in half an hour if I kept getting matched up with a superior/inferior opponent (online boosters WILL keep trying to join your room if they find you’re an easy win).
[] Probably something between 50%-90% of online players are new/not serious players and you develop bad habits from playing them.
[
] The 3-round, single set format of ranking battle means less reward for things that matter in longer sets like mind games, and rewards gimmicks and things like wake-up ultras.
[*] XBL lag prevents consistent hitting/practicing 1-frame links thus discouraging the buildup of muscle memory necessary to consistently land these offline.

Offense/Defense grades don’t mean $%^%… a win is a win and that’s all that matters, even if you just used 3 attacks and won by a time out… a win is a win.

Online Ranked is a lot like gambling: the house always wins and you’ll end up losing more than winning in the long run.

(unless you’re like Daigo or something)

@Rodney: Gotta accept my friend request man so I can practice with you!

I should clarify that online ranked battles is just like the icing on my cold streak right now. I mainly play friends in Endless Battle, which is where I’m primarily noticing my lack of improvement. One of the biggest problems I’ve been having lately is with my friend’s Balrog. He’s pretty good, but I feel the main reason why I’m losing is that my defense eventually falls through. This is usually comes from: a)getting throw baited, b)missing tech throws, and c) not reacting to EX Overhead fast enough, which sets up the headbutt Ultra. It’s getting a little frustrating when I lose like 0-4, mostly due to my mistakes or by getting hit by a last minute headbutt Ultra.

@DKL, Zaku. Did y’all ever get a hold of Efren regarding his setup? I could text Jorge for you guys, I’m sure he can get a hold of him.

Also, I’m down for some PSN Puzzle Fighter HD tonight.

Fun Fact I learned today: Cammy gets up one frame slower than the rest of the cast. :wtf:

Damn, I’m currently busy trying to plow through Castlevania, but if I get on PSN and you’re on, let’s do some PUZZLE FIGHTER.

Also, yeah, please text Jorge and ask if Efren is coming with his TV; we’d need it at like 8am in the morning on Saturday.

I’ll be online in ~15 mins from now

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck this was about an hour ago; I’m still on the XBOX playing LOS…

Wow I got stood up!

No worries, I decided to finish watching Red Cliff instead. As a former fanboy of Dynasty Warriors, I really enjoyed that movie (John Woo’s white doves actually make sense for once)!

Any luck on you getting Marvel set up and ready?

Castlevania…Game is awesome when you have “bloody tears” on repeat. took me 3 days to finish on hard because of everything almost 1 or 2 shots me and camella for having an tiger uppercut.

Almost…

Just need to finish LOS…

(the game is taking much longer than I thought it would to finish; god damn)

Before I install the game on PC, I gotta hit training mode first and learn the basics…

Yes, things are not going as planned.

Game is seriously too long (on “Warrior” difficulty); at first, I didn’t think I would be able to finish that armor dude that takes your power, but then I realized that counter block thingy is incredibly easy to do on him (but apparently not on subsequent bosses)…

But, yes, I can’t wait to get this thing done.

I should’ve just waited for Vanquish to come out (LOS was my “buffer” game, but then I realize that I have no desire to play it again when I finish it).

Unlike Bayonetta or whatever, LOS seems to be consistently hard and annoying in a sense that getting my upgrades aren’t very rewarding (I actually looked forward to buying new things in Bayonetta because they did awesome things; all I have in LOS is the cross whip, which I’m now bored of after having played for god knows how long); I saved up 25,000 points for that one Shadow move, but then it turns out that it’s stronger to just use shadow mode heavy attack…

What the fuck?

In fact, a lot of the game’s [gameplay] design is retarded…

The double-jump sucks, platforming sucks, poisonous bog sucks, the musical box stage sucked (it was actually a good idea, but revert to why the gameplay design sucks #2)…

So, yeah…

Can’t wait to trade this in and play other games (like Marvel, which I need to get started on ASAP).

Force Unleashed 2 demo kicks ass. That is all…

I know the platforming sucked, but double jump is amazing, avoid ground aoe attack then come back down holding light attack, then keep attacking…repeat…repeat.

And marvel team CLOCKWORK

Talking about double-jump: I actually didn’t even know I had that blind move from the double jump until like… the end (I kept wondering why the hell my magic was disappearing when I was double-jumping)… I don’t think it blinded bosses though, which made it annoying and wasteful.

That said, it’s finally over; I was all “thank god”.

Last boss was kinda easy since all you had to do was change colors and you’d gain a ton of health; it was surprisingly generous, whereas the regular enemies won’t give you anything for hitting them with light magic (I also wasted money on the black hole move as it costs a ton of magic, but gave you no health).

Just gotta trade the game towards Kirby now…

Also, when I get home from school later (need to find professors that will write me recommendation letters… somewhat hard to get done at this point), I’ll finally be able to start on MVC2… according to Chrisis, I apparently have to start out with team top-tier in order to learn the basics… gonna read up on that later…

That said, I was playing Sin and Punishment last night and man…

That game is hard; I was trying to beat the last boss for like 1-2 hours.

That said, it’s a great game, but one of the problems with on-rails shooters like this is that I don’t know my relative position on-screen to projectiles; it’s not entirely clear whether or not something is going to hit me as there’s no way to gauge the position of my character relative to an object that will hit me (you usually don’t have the same problem in games where it’s either side-scrolling or from top-down view)…

I’m hoping that Kid Icarus on the 3DS will remedy this (in fact, this may be 3D’s best contribution to gaming).

The stuff they did in that movie was amazing; every time they revealed what the big secret strategy was, I was always impressed.

(and in that sense, I was pleased at how cohesive all the strategies they used in battle were; I actually understood everything, despite they’re being a million people everywhere)

That said, yeah, this and Redline were my probably favorite action movies that I’ve seen this year.

(but then, I can’t remember everything that happened this year, so I’ll just say that they’re the first to come to mind that’s most recent)

I didn’t think that the movie adaptation of F-Zero would make such a legit movie.

(it’s not really a movie based on Nintendo’s racing game, but you’d think so given the amount of people dressed up in spandex and superhero masks)
