Best generic pointer i can give is practice!
More specifically, if you’re getting random c.spikes during combos, be aware of how relaxed the inputs in this game are. Lately, when I’m in position to do a drill combo, I try to mentally double check if I had just walked forward to get where I’m at. If so, instead of doing a combo like c.MK xx HSA, I’ll just do a sweep; it’s less damage, but it’s a untechable knockdown, so I at least get to start some mixups. It’s way better than flying off to the moon! I’ve random spike that airplane on the africa stage more times than I care to admit…
I tried some other tricks to avoid random spike like letting the stick go neutral prior to comboing (not always enough time to do so), and doing drill with a half circle motion instead (sometimes I do this too fast and still get spikes )
About focus canceling. This is more about muscle-memory than anything else. Note that the timing for canceling is different when doing a special move naked (i.e. wakeup dp, random drill, etc.), than when comboing into it ( i.e. links into HSA, cl.HP xx c.Spike, etc.). With naked timing, it’s impossible to do the cancel too fast, so try to do everything as one motion. Once you get that down, you’ll be able to get a better feel for timing FADC during combos and blockstrings.
As far as links go, you just have to go into training mode and repeat them ad nauseam. Learn how to pull them off consistently without full concentration (i.e. eyes closed, watching another match, talking to someone, making out with girlfriend, etc.).
Even with practice, people will still drop combos, miss links etc. The biggest tip I can give here, is to not feel like a dropped combo is the end of the world! Keep fighting and keep your head in the match! It’s still possible to clutch a win without your biggest, flashiest, most-hype combo.
