The Batman thread: Out of the shadows baby

There’s a problem with sexualizing the Joker.

He can NEVER be intimate, because he’s so insane, everything would degenerate into depravity.

so they leave him sexually ambiguous, to completely avoid this.

anything you read to the contrary is speculation.

I always have imagined (no homo) the Joker’s relationship with Harley Quinn to be like that of Frank Booth/Dennis Hopper to Isabella Rosellini in Blue Velvet only with way fucking more Stockholm syndrome. I am waiting for the comic that has him say “Daddy wants to fuck” at some random moment.

I’m sure there’s something in the Harley/Joker relationship, but I think it’s more Cat/Mouse than actually sexual.

if there’s any sex involved, it’s likely rape, or so depraved that it’s unmentionable. Harley being so far gone that she doesn’t even realize just how sick it is.

and that’s the reason you can’t sexualize him.

i just have to quote this for how legendary rusky batman’s silly hat is.

How is “in the darkest knight” the one that batman gets the ring, good or bad?

Neal Adams draws insane Batman/Joker cover for All-Star Batman and Robin #8!

That’s fucking trippy. I’m glad they can still occasionally coax Neal Adams out of the woodwork to do cool shit like this.

Wow.

I never really expected this to happen, especially to All-Star Shudder

I just found the last issue to my Elseworlds Batman: Hollywood Knight and read through it. Kinda wish I could find the rest, it’s good but kinda lame at the same time. Though a bald forty year old Robin is pretty funny.

I never thought Joker was hetero or homo, I always figured he was Asexual due to his insanity and lack of interest wasting time with that. I actually think he’s disgusted by it, but uses sexual type things like flirting and stuff to scare people or taunt Harley.

Weird I’m talking like he was real instead of a fictional character.

As some of you might know I aspire to be a comic book writer. I always think about if given the choice just which comic would I write. But there is always one comic character I would never touch, probably due out of fear of fucking him up and that’s Batman. Honestly every time I tried sitting down to write a Batman story I fumble, I can never seem to get it right.

I think if I do write Batman (Highly doubt it) I would have to go indie on him and use obscure characters and make them interesting, maybe use Batman less to make his appearence more dramatic. But even that fails to win me over.

Just wanted to share some knowledge, and I got another question for you peeps.

If you ever were to write a Batman story, what would it be about?

Personally I would due something with Two-Face if I had to pick a Batman villain. If anyone I always thought it would be weird but neat to see Bizarro visit Gotham City, maybe his vacation.

Also does anyone know if DC has plans to get the Batman Beyond Batman his own thing in this DC universe? I know he was in an issue of World’s Finest, but other than that I haven’t seen much.

On a side note Batman is guest appearing (Sounds like a late night talk show) in Supergirl #23, and to me the artist did a cool representation of him.http://comics.ign.com/articles/833/833089p1.html

That’s a tough question. I’m wracking my brain for stories that haven’t been done (that I know of) yet.

How about this:

A down-on-his luck investigative reporter, very talented but headstrong, decides that the best way to make a name for himself is to reveal the secrets of Batman–his methods, his connections, the whole schmeer. A blockbuster expose. So he starts making friends in all the bad places. He sets up some contacts, and finally allies himself with an old, embittered former bat-villain–Hugo Strange, let’s say. Strange cuts a deal: he won’t give this guy the secret, but he will guide him on the journey and give him clues along the way. The obvious reason being that Strange wants Batman for himself, but will also be finally vindicated if the secrets are exposed by this slimy reporter.

Of course, the trick is staying one step ahead of Batman, who has an uncanny knack for knowing fucking everything there is to know at the most inconvenient of times. He can scare our intrepid reporter off the trail using his usual bag of tricks (scaring the shit out of him, for example), but the obvious danger is that Strange is the informant and he knows who is under the cape and cowl. He could drop the bomb at any time. The story would be told from the reporter’s perspective, meaning that we’d see Batman not as the protagonist, but as criminals see him: a scary motherfucker who never fully steps out of the shadows.

Has this been done? It probably has.

Joker’s Gayness

Spoiler

In Batman: Hush Returns, you find out that Joker used to be married and that his wife was killed by a cop.

How that fits into the continuity is beyond my knowledge.

Oh yeah, nobody had anything to discuss about my post in the last page?

Meh, Joker had a wife that was killed by two thugs to force him into helping them commit costumed capers, not something realistic like a dirty cop or something. Stupid comics trying to force real physics and personalities into a fantasy media >_>

Are you sure? I looked at it and yes, two thugs were involved, but it was a cop who blew up their apartment while the Riddler watched. This is all according to Hush: Returns. Are you referring to a different continuity?

Yeah Killing Joke, I’m getting Hush Returns soon so I’ll see if this change is a cool one or not, kinda weird to connect Joker and Riddler together though. Especially since Riddler helped Hush previously, creeeepy.

Oh okay… yeah my copy of Killing Joke is on its way from Amazon.com, LOL. I have all of the major Batman books except that one. Sorry if I spoiled Hush Returns for you!

Killing Joke also carefully dances around whether or not the flashback sequences actually happened or if they’re just a construction of the Joker’s imagination. It is not at all meant to be definitely taken as his origin story.

Has anyone heard the rumors that R’as al Ghul will be revived and that Bruce Wayne may be killed off next year? If so, then who do you think will replace him as Batman/Will it be permanent? His kid with Talia al Ghul? Tim Drake?

Yeah, that rumor was in this past week’s Lying in the Gutters.

Who knows if that’s actually true. It sounds like a terrible plan. Almost like they think they can out-Brubaker Brubaker. Maybe a disgruntled DC editor is just feeding Rich Johnston bad information out of spite.

I can’t believe this. Three pages in and no mention of the magnificinte Batman: Ego and Other Tails book? Thought you guys were some Batman fans. I just started reading the book over the weekend and let me tell you, it is sex on paper. Daryn Cooke is the man when it comes to writing AND drawing. Cooke’s Batman is now one of my faves. I’m on part two of Selina’s Big Score. This is the only Catwoman mini I’ve ever read and it’s the stuff of greatness. Has the old-school heist feel to it. If you haven’t checked out the stories in Batman: Ego and Other Tails, you have no soul.

See, now you gotta get the Brubaker Catwoman stuff. As good as Selina’s Big Score is, it only gets even better. COOKE penciled the first four issues and Mike Allred inked his stuff when they did the Catwoman relaunch.

Hrm, might have to look at Ego then, since I want to be hardcore and have a soul at the same time. Anything new in the life of Bats? I’m curious to see what people think of the new Ra’s al Ghul return.

Even though he isn’t my favorite bat-villain, I do respect the impact he’s had on Batman and I am excited to see what will happen. Robin and Nightwing tie-in’s bother me a bit, since I always saw Batman and Ra’s affairs their’s alone. I always felt Batman was more dramatic by himself, but hey it just adds more comics to buy.

Damien seems the wild card here. I know he’s all over his dad’s nuts, but I can’t help but think he’s going to turn on Bats.
