The Bama Thread - Resurrected For The Resurrection!?

GGs to the 'Bama BB:CS crew. We’ll make sure to hand those involved the recorded casual matches that happened in the hotel room. 'grats to SkeletalMinion making top 5! See You and Solidplay at Atlanta Revival in April?

Shouting out to Skeletal and his 5th placing! Grats!

GGs Lockhart, had fun getting games in and generally hanging this weekend. We’ll definitely be at ATL Revival.

Thanks!

Good job to the Bama crew at Final Round. Was way too much fun. Congrats to Raph for winning HD Remix. To Nice1, Lasdon, Lamar, Tri, Cory, and Greg, you guys were too funny this weekend. Good games to everyone.

And Cory you might wanna go to the dentist and get that cavity checked out. LOL! JUST PICKIN!

I also wanna congratulate Skeletal Minion for placing 5th a FR! Hanging out with the ‘Bama crew during the event made the trip much better. SolidPlay’s commentary is hilarious (MMMmmmm, lol) and Pat was pole dancin’ on everybody with Litchi. I also appreciate the tips everyone gave me and I can’t wait to meet you guys again at Atlanta Revival.

@ C Deezy: Your match against that T.Hawk player was epic XD That man couldn’t block cross-ups to save his life. I was the Rose player you faced, btw.

Voice is dead. Bama’s awesome. Lamar cried from Phoeynx beating Tokido in Arcana. Random people stepping on your shoes by accident. Screaming at people all day. Getting shitfaced before your top 8 matches at 8am (only the best). Too much fun. See ya’ll at the next one.

Good shit to all of Bama that came out to FR and did their thing. Lamar, Tri, Cory, Rocky, Nice1, Ladson, Colin, preciate the good matches and the fuckin’ stupid amount of laughs yall dudes provided. Definitely making the trip again next year.

well i didn’t really meet the rest of bama at final round

I GUESS THAT MEANS I HAVE TO ATTEND THOSE DRINK NIGHTS + MONTHLIES

GS to everyone @ Final Round. Niggas better let Ricky and Champ in the room next time. I don’t care if they body us. Nice1, I still say you should MM RyRy for what happened.

I know I got exposed, but one of these days I figure out that Chun matchup.

Can’t wait for next B’ham Monthlies. GS to all of the bama crew. Just wish I knew that damn viper matchup in SF4 better… still such a n00b but w\e

Okay final round is over, now time to bring back ST and guilty gear for auburn!!

Viper is my main. If you ever wanna get some matches on xbox live, let me know. I definitely need the Bison practice.

It needs more turn punch and jean punchin’ nigga!

Dude, I’d definitely be down for some ST. Though I don’t know how to play. :stuck_out_tongue:

As far as that turn punch goes, lets play a game of theory fighter.

With a bunch of characters, I need to take the initiative to get in and do some damage to create a lead and decide if I want to turtle or not later on. I hardly ever take this initiative. It’s a risk (risk/reward is a BIG part of fighting games) and goes against my personality. It’s also partly why I suck. So instead, I’ll sit back and wait to see what happens. More space is created than is positive for me (a Boxer player for those who don’t know [you should since turn punch is mentioned above]) and now I need to get in. Damn. I should’ve done this from the start.

Dash punches have been the most recent recommendation. However, anything that’s not well placed will likely be punished. So I need to do it at a range and time to prevent anything crazy. A good range would be half screen, maybe? One third? A good time would be pretty much any time they won’t be able to anticipate it and punish (i.e. they’re not just sitting there). But in case they are just sitting there, I could throw in some “noise” to hide the dash punch. But what about turn punch? It comes out slower offering more time for the opponent to react. If done at a range hard to react to, it’ll probably be unsafe. So I’m suppose to FADC backdash and put myself right back out defeating the purpose of why I did it in the first place?

I only see turn punch useful in punishing and building meter after ultra. Though I suppose a level one would come out pretty fast. I never use it since I usually hold turn punch a while trying to anticipate a fireball that never comes because it seems my opponent knows when I’m charging it. Half the time I tried to get in with TAP, the fireball got thrown afterwards and hit me.

Then there’s focusing pokes. People do it. It’s hard, but people do it and it’s a SF4 addition to footsies. If I can focus Chun’s standing roundhouse or fierce, there’s enough time to dash in and I’ll at least jab to get her into block stun so I can start an offense. Best case is starting a combo and maybe get a knockdown. That s.j–c.rh got better by at least 40% in a single day (thank you plinking).

Like we all know and pretend not to, practice will help a lot. Spacing is absolutely essential in that matchup, and I don’t have it down yet. Besides, there is another underlying problem: I can’t turn off autopilot.

Hey locals! I’m going to the Drink Night ASAP fyi. Who’s riding w/ me?

I am down for such a trip if the schedule persists.

^ I’ll letcha know when it’s time, then.

Original ST or HD Remix?

Original ST probably, because Ehonda is good on HDR

@Mysticblack: Dash straights are generally safe if done from right at midscreen. Lvl. 1 TAP is a good option if you are worried about being punished from that range I guess since it’s only -2 on block. I still think the issue with your 'Rog is you don’t take initiative. You let people do what they want basically and aren’t applying your own game. You should be pushing most characters to the corner and forcing them into taking the risks. Also, focusing pokes isn’t that hard. Most people throw out focus in anticipation of things, so in the instance of Chun throwing RH, you should have got at that distance and charged focus for a sec and then waited for the hit and reacted accordingly, although in retrospect, Chun’s RH probably would have whiffed while you did focus because 'Rog lowers his head some when he charges focus. The key to that match in general is keep her from building good amounts meter from whiffing Hazan Shus and random fireballs by pushing her into the corner. She has no real escape once she’s there. But just like you were saying, practice is will help a lot, SO GET A CONSOLE NIGGA!
