Sorry for the double post guys but I think this is worthed it…then again, probably not.
Anyway, this has been a rather stressful hour for me. As of this posting, I’m just now getting back from the arcade and talking to that owner in which I had to stand there and wait almost 2hrs to talk to him due to him working on machines. No biggie…anyway, I tried to video tape the whole ordeal but he wouldn’t talk to me unless my camcorder was turned off so I didn’t get a chance to record anything. Sorry about that. Here is what our conversation pretty much boiled down to:
First off, I introduced myself to him and then got right down to the point about asking him personally if doesn’t like fighting games, no sooner after I asked that, he instantly jumped up to defend himself from that question saying that it’s not that he doesn’t like fighting games but its just that they can’t put up the money to actually buy one at that time. The petition wasn’t even needed…he wouldn’t look at it. He goes around telling me that the arcade is, at the moment; running on the money from August & September and that fighting games are top on his company list in getting. He says that at the time when they bought the package that came with acquiring the arcade, it didn’t include any fighting games. At the time, their “company” is going towards the kids & family market, which I said is fine but what about in later months because in next 2 months that there are console games that are going to be released in which our community will be all over on and games like MvC2 & Tekken isn’t going to cut it anymore cause no one will play them. He said that by time they opened the place, it was too late for them when they found out that LuuAnn had a lot of fighting game players in this area (I call this “BULL” with a side order of “SHIT”). Anyway, he say that even though fighting games are a top priority on the list, they just can’t give a exact time frame as to when they’ll be able to get one…that’s odd because around the end of the conversation, he was talking it will be around mid next year since kept saying “during the summer” around this time. Obviously, he has a time frame stuck in his head in which he thinks we’ll still be around waiting.
Before I got to talk to him, he talked to another guy who was at the arcade playing DDR whom asked him about fighting games also. From this guys expression, he felt this owner was arrogant and stuck up cause he was talking down Namco about how they were washed up and how they couldn’t run an arcade. Also came around to saying how the managers old customers sure talk a lot. Even through our conversation when I was talking, I get the impression that from the look on his face, he was saying to himself “Oh gawd, when will this be over…when will this guy shut up and leave?” and majority of the conversation, he was laughing every 15 - 25 seconds when he was talking as if he’s trying to make it seem like he doesn’t like these types of games.
At any rate guys, this arcade is a lost cause. We’re not the type of community who can wait on a company who blew off their old customers and then tell them to wait till the summer of next year even though they don’t know when they’ll be able to get a new game (oh, didn’t I mention that Mortal Kombat was one of the games that left his mouth as well…who in the hell is playing this right now even though MK9 isn’t out yet?). Well, I don’t think I can say much more about this cause it’s painfully obvious that nothing is going to happen anytime soon and we’ll even forget about that place way before the summer comes. It sickens me that one of our childhood hangouts has been reduced to a small scale Chucky Cheese. Well…I’m going to eat this Charlie sandwich and go to bed. I haven’t been to bed since I got off work at 6:30AM today and I’m tired. I’ll catch you all later or online.

There’s only a few more weeks until it releases and I still need to talk with some locals about getting something started down here for the game when I get it. I’d just prefer us get all the introductions and shit out of the way before the game drops instead of us all finally getting together one week and going, “Uhhh…uhhh…wut i do?” basically, lol. So yeah, anybody in the Birmingham area interested in getting together for some AH3 sessions, speak up!
