I’m really curious about Hakumen though, as some of his changes seem… questionable. No more combos after 6D? WTF, 6D is high risk as it loses to any lows and puts you in counterhit state for the entire recovery, but they nerfed the reward through the floor since it already does zero damage by itself (thusly gaining no meter aside from a second or so worth of autogain). It’s like ArcSys decided, “Well if it fails, Hakumen eats a counterhit combo. If it succeeds, he should get nothing.” I understand the JD nerf, but it sucks that it’s going to lose a lot of its damage when baiting bursts as I thought this made Hakumen uniquely adept at punishing them. Honestly though, if they just give him his 6D back I’d be completely happy with his changes as most of them seem good/fair.
As for Southeast Battles, I want to go but can’t as I haven’t found another job yet after my seasonal Halloween job ending
If by uniquely adept, you mean braindead easy then yeah, I agree. Unlike everyone else who has to delay normals or rapid to bait bursts, you just cancel anything into everything on reaction.
The only way Makoto won’t be absolute garbage is if everyone else becomes garbage too.

It’s only braindead easy against silly american bursts. And Makoto has more than enough tools for her to be a decent character without dealing 10000 damage off of a parry.

Countering bursts with JD or 6D works like burst throwing in GG: you have to predict when they’re going to burst, then stop the combo and counter (or in GG’s case, airthrow). An example:

If you fuck up and misread them, they get out of the combo for free since you’re literally dropping it. While there are exceptions (mainly involving “A/B > D” gatlings), these are rare since Hakumen’s most important BnBs (Enma combos, corner loops) use his C moves/specials, which can’t be cancelled into counters. Either that, or the opponent is bursting during a gap in the combo where you can counter on reaction, but that’s a situation where any other character would be able to block/punish on reaction. I suppose you could Rapid > Counter, but that would be a terribly inefficient waste of meter, meaning it’s too costly for Hakumen when considering he’s the most meter dependent character in the game–proper meter management is a MUST for him.
tl,dr: Countering bursts isn’t as free as it looks.

The only change that’s really worrisome is decreased untechable time on all LV3 drives. There’s not enough description on how drastic the change is, and it might not make it to the final build anyway. Every other change is fine, maybe strange and some will make me sadface (lightning arrow combos) but ultimately don’t hurt her playstyle much.
A lot of people don’t understand makoto - they think she’s terrible without huge damage, has bad super risky mix-up and few tools to work with. I can prove them wrong =)

It’s literally the second best beat-em-up I’ve ever played (next to Streets of Rage 2, of course) and is FUCKING AWESOME. The graphics are colorfully retro, the soundtrack is absolutely god tier chiptunes, and the gameplay is surprisingly deep and solid. It’s one of the best games I’ve played in the past year, seriously. It’s also only $5 on XBL if you grab it in the next couple of days since it’s the deal of the week.
