[details=Spoiler]Cal is pretty cute; it’ll be interesting to see how she plays a role in the story. OMG NAKED LOLI NEXT EPISODE fap fap fap lololz. I have a pretty good feeling the person who killed those guys/standing up on the roof was Ein (teh boobz), but if it is her, I wonder how they’re going to handle her return if she does come back.
You know, I was expecting this series to be only twelve or thirteen episodes, but it wasn’t until I checked ANN for how long it would be. Twenty-six episodes, eh? I was kind of hoping the series would conclude with episode thirteen, given all that has happened, but I guess there’s a lot of story left.[/details]
It seems like they’re cutting quite a bit out. In Ep 12 they didn’t even have the guy who tormented them on the island. I can live with it for now, but I hope when they get to the previously unfilmed parts they don’t leave anything out.
SB! is a pretty popular manga, so it’s possible we’d see another season. However, most shoujo manga usually aren’t so lucky when it comes to that (Ouran and Fruits Basket.)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Episode 3, Season 2: My mind is totally blown. I did not see that coming at all.
Episode 3, Season 2 The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Spoiler
Holy fuck balls. The episode felt really familiar at first, then bam… the plot twist. What makes it even better is that i knew an episode like this would happen. Episode 2’s ending hinted at this, and the things Koizumi said during Episode 2 hinted at this. But man… they executed it perfectly.
When Nagato revealed that event occurred 15,498 times already, my jaw dropped. Best moment of the episode by far.
Also, the way they weave the romance plot into it is also fantastic. It’s a realistic thought on everyone’s mind. To feel regret. Except Haruhi can actually do something about it, unconsciously.
Veritas is decent-bad, and that just meant I could make it through thirty chapters.
Everything else is unreadable.
Korean character names are jokes (as bad as Houshin Engi), the series all feel the same, and they all have terrible pacing-- Veritas is the only exception.
I almost put down Defense Devil when I found out it was done by a Korean, but it has been ok so far, but I suspect that has to do with it being published in a japanese magazine.
But at least Koreans know how to draw (but their action scenes usually have too much shit going on).
Speaking of bad pacing, Drifters is horrible. Three months into the series, and we have two guys plucking ducks.
Hellsing was better as an anime-- whichever version you want to pick-- because it at least made sense. It felt like I was skipping chapters when I was reading it because it was so messy. If you take a month to make a fucking chapter, at least try to make it coherent!
Ugh.
Team Medical Dragon is good, though. I don’t know whats up with the translation status on that-- I know it was being done by Nexgear back when they had all the HxH breaks, but the latest chapter looks like it was done by just one guy-- which is crazy, considering all the medical terminology that series has.
I agree, I tried a few “manhwas” and now I lose interest instantly if I find out a manga is korean. It’s just something about the storytelling/direction that’s just… weak.
There are two big issues I personally have that I doubt I’ll ever be able to reconcile with–
Names
Park Kim Soo Tam… the compound names fuck me up, especially for the series that name-drop characters that haven’t appeared yet.
Korean Culture
They… act weird. And think weird. But it isn’t all off-the-wall shit, it is culture shock weird. For example in manga series about schools all you really need to know is that the kids are way more involved with clubs/school than in the US, they have class on Saturday, and they take exams to get to good high schools-- all of which sorta have parallels in the US. For manhwa, teachers can hit students, drinking age is like 18, and you have mandatory military service once you graduate unless you are exempted.
But, aside from that, they feel bad and same-y. You can make the same accusation about manga, but manwha seriously is
High-schooler finds magic sword/girl/power
or
Fantasy world with generic main character
Which are overused premises in Japan. It might be that the translators never pick the interesting projects, but I can only call 'em as I see 'em.
The best manwha I’ve read is Shin Angyo Onshi. The art is good, story is excellent and the action sequences are pretty solid (although there’s a number of ‘rocks fall, everyone dies’ moments). There’s a slump toward the end, but the final arc and ending is really rewarding if you’ve stuck through it. Otherwise I’ll agree most manwha is pretty meh, Black God is entertaining for what it is though.
Sekeiri always felt more like Pokemon to me, at least from how everyone acted and the girls personalities / were treated.
p.s. If you didn’t watch Eden of the East this season, you missed out. Fortunately you have infi months to see it before the movies hit.
