@Jimbo13 Public school is unsavory? I come from a poor family that would never be able to afford school for me had it not been subsidized by taxes. I’m happy that my taxes go towards this stuff. I am more than willing to pay for a better society. Or would you rather not pay and have a population full of people who can’t read and write? Personally, I would like my money to go to technical schools also. Because I have seen public school fail a lot of people in terms of job skills needed to be a productive member of society.(For the people that don’t like pure book knowledge).
Yes the institution of public schools is unsavory, no one said anything against subsidizing education. Parent’s pay the tax and should direct the allocation of that subsidy to any school they want to send their children, currently that decision is entirely in the hands of a bureaucrat beholden to a state teachers union. I always hear liberals groaning on about diversity in education, while their ranks are 100% State employees. But Liberals can’t handle that because they might not like the choice someone people make.

I get what you’re saying, but a lot of places can’t implement that effectively. Only having parents pay for the school tax would make the cost of having a family even greater, and disproportionately favor those able to escape shitty districts by paying extra for private schools. By operating on a larger scale, such as a bureaucracy, you can redistribute resources to the places in need of them.
Except that’s not how it works and if they were to do that, you’d have a ton of underfunded schools. If parents want to send their kids to a school so badly, they should consider moving or sending their kids to private schools.
But with that said, more money isn’t the answer to improving education, it’s doing away with all the ridiculous “standards” that make voters and windbag politicians feel like they’re actually doing something while guaranteeing that it’s more about the marks than what the kid is actually learning. Education has been turned into a shitty xbox game where you grind for achievements rather than just enjoying the game and getting something worthwhile from it because parents can’t stand the idea that their kid might not actually be smart, and administrators don’t want to deal with aforementioned shithead parents.
