I really don’t think that those are the people who are taking your money, unless you’re talking about Obamacare, in which case, if we actually did something about the shitty health care system in this country then that would fix it. That’s just a symptom of folks stanning for the insurance companies. They don’t want to fix things so that everyone can get what they need, but they don’t want to have to pay up for any of that either, so it’s a catch 22 (I’m not saying you, just folks in general.)
But there will always be people who make poor life choices (usually involving having kids they can’t care for financially) but because we’re a society, we choose to take care of these folks in a way so as not to let the kid, who didn’t ask to be born, suffer for their parents’ mistakes. THOSE are usually the people who are getting your money.
He self exiled because if he hadn’t, he’d be rotting in a cell in a location no member of the general public knows about more than likely.
Shit, I say let Snowden be president. He seems to care more about the country based on his actions than a lot of these politicians who swear up and down that they “love” America and that they’re public servants.
Automation won’t “Eliminate” work per se, but would/could do one of two things.
If corporations control the automated robots, and the only “taxes” those robots generate are through standard corporate taxes as opposed to humans paying income taxes:
a) wealth gap will skyrocket to dystopia levels. hunger games, elysium type shit.
b) governments will go bankrupt, as the need for social services will far eclipse the revenue from income tax. States and nations would probably retract to absolve financial responsibility.
Production, Consumption, and property switch become the main basis of “tax” and not work. This, coupled with “basic income”, incentivizes work, but leaves the possibility that not everyone HAS to work an awful job just to not have their kids starve to death. People can work part time, be an artist, stay at home with the kids, whatever. This is going towards “Star Trek” economy.
Automation alone won’t ruin money, you also need to solve energy, food, water, and housing.
I don’t believe it would’ve weakened the economy. Quite the opposite, in fact. With more people having more money, there would be an increase in goods purchased.
Taxes, naturally. Taxes were always a tool to redistribute wealth. It’s an effective one, too. But in the US it’s been bastardized to distribute that money back to the wealthy.
It’s incredible reading about and watching videos of the violence at the Trump rallies. Like, it’s fucked up that Bernie/Hillary supporters are instigating fights, throwing eggs, etc, and it’s a good illustration of how petty things have gotten.
Course, it also makes me wonder if some of those people instigating are being paid to be there and to start stuff.
Then do it when its needed. If people where serious about future proofing, they would pass initiatives to have some government t savings account to implement this when it’s needed. As it stands, Switzerland is a service based economy with a large educated work force that won’t be replaced for at least several decades.
It’s best to do it now BECAUSE of low unemployment and mad cash in the bank. It’s the easiest time to implement and a time when they can absorb the blow.
Doing it when it’s necessary can then lead to a lot of problems the government is complaining about.
So far it’s looking like 3. Johnson polling at 10% is a really big deal given he has almost no publicity thus far. He has the potential to siphon off a significant group of Rand/Ron Paul supporters who want libertarianism alongside the energetic Sanders supporters who aren’t drinking the Clinton Kool-Aid. Clinton and Trump aren’t all that popular within their own parties and do poorly among independents, who make up over 40% of the electorate.
The biggest hurdle right now is getting Johnson to the big stage, possibly the debate stage alongside the party nominees. Trump is running off of anti-Clinton sentiment, and Clinton has to be the anti-Trump for Democrats. They spend the next 4 months dragging each other through the mud until the American people truly hate them both, and Johnson emerges as a viable choice who never sunk to that level. The protest crowd for both candidates moves to Johnson to rally against an establishment that created this race, and Johnson wins by pulling the rug out from both of them.
A lot of Hillary and Donald’s rhetoric relies on them being the lesser evil. If a third choice pops up and people start questioning the dualism of the 2-party system, both of them are going to have a really bad time keeping all but their diehard supporters.
