Massive amounts of Americans live below the poverty line and land up in cycles of inequality due to entry level jobs not paying liveable wages. They end up landing in jail trying to survive only to get out into the same predicament. It’s completely fixable as well, the people with the money to do so just don’t believe it’s their responsibility.

While you’re bullshitting, there are alotta Americans that wouldn’t mind going to jail rather than being in extreme heat and extreme cold while being homeless. Hell, some of these homeless camps are worse than jails and prisons…

I’m sure they would and I’m not bullshitting. America has a massive amount of wealth. It’s not a third world nation, it’s incredibly wealthy, per person there is more than enough money for everyone’s survival. It’s not distributed fairly.

Certain people make enormous profits off the back of staff that have no choice but to turn to them for work or be homeless. The people that run these massive chain stores aren’t running at the cost of business or even close, they’re not going under with higher wages they just spread their bullshit to justify their greed. Inflation has been rising faster than wages for a long time now and automation technology is exaserbating the issue.

So, in a nutshell, capitalism and communism are 2 sides of the same coin. Seems like we all have to go to the middle of the road by choosing socialism.

Communism can work but the problem is humans are too fallible. There is just no way to have a fair centralised power because of personal interests. So I guess in a way it can’t work.

The problem is the way technology is going, capitalism is going to stop working. The amount of jobs and people qualified to work is going to decrease. Automation is real and information technology is pushing it further than ever. Without some kind of universal basic income society will collapse. Listen to Elon Musk or Hawking.

Sure: the government provides most of the fundamental services that allow us to have a functional society. Thus Jimmy gets to grow up in an opportunity-rich society that allows her and thus the economy to succeed as much as people.

Or we can pretend that nobody has to pay anything, gleefully let the winning families hoard wealth, and have them use that to extract yet more money from the economy. (I make more money via investment income than at my excellent job, and I probably don’t work as hard as anybody actually struggling to get by.)

In theory the government is supporting our interests and the things that are valuable to us as a country. If not, change that. The current government plan is to keep funding all those things while not paying for it. That’s not viable.

Our political system is Labor, who are a bit further to the left than Democrats, and the Coalition. The Coalition is the Nationals who are basically Republicans and Liberals, some of whom are centrist others are basically Republicans. Then you have the Greens and usually far-right independents.

Overall Australia leans further left than the U.S but it’s not as far left as Scandinavia or a lot of Europe. It’s like America-lite.
