That was one of my favourite scenes in the movie, I think the Raimi films have a nostalgia factor that are hurting peoples judgement with the new film.
It is my opinion that Pete’s intelligence was portrayed exactly as it should have been. He doesn’t come from a great neighborhood and his guardians don’t have all the educational resources in the world for him, but within those parameters, he’s a really smart kid.
He’s not Reed Richards or Tony Stark and he isn’t supposed to be.
Like I said if they didn’t do an origin, peoples perception would be better.

I’ll just wait to see this movie later, but if they do a sequel I hope they’ll go with the comic where Peter killed Gwen by snapping her neck.
At the time it came out there weren’t many good comic book movies and it was a decent series compared to X-Men,Hulk,Fantastic 4 etc. So I guess that is a factor but as a Spiderman fan I was severely let down, Spiderman 2 was the best in the old series imo but this new movie is by far my most favourite. Tobey was always mopey and most people don’t even remember him cracking one joke, there is a good reason for that. Dude is always mopey even when he is trying to be funny but man Andrew is so good in this movie. By the end I’m like THAT is Peter Parker.

At first I didn’t like it, BUT it makes more sense that it comes with his powers rather than a 18 (? correct me here) year old kid mass producing synthetic spider silk in his bedroom/highschool lab that research groups have taken more than 20 years to reproduce at a decent scale in real life.
And fucking finally someone saying PP wasn’t a genius, I remember the old “Comic book movies tiers” thread where 4 pages were devoted to discuss how “genius” Peter was. I agree he is a smart kid, but genius is something else. People seem to think that anyone that shows grad school level of knowledge about something is being genius.

How is Spidey not a boy genius? The kid makes his own webbing device, offered to work under Osborne to develop weapons, capable of developing antidotes for genetic mutations and viruses, and consistently outwits the likes of Doc Ock. Spidey doesnt have the financial backing like tony stark to develop limitless flying armors that shoot beams.
PS: Spidey has beaten many heros and villains that have outclassed him before in term of power, speed, and sometimes even intelligence.
perhaps i always had a higher standard, because i never liked the spiderman movies, the 2nd movie was bearable only because the dr. octupus, but outside that it had the same flaws of the rest of the trilogy, the movies were simply bad to terrible at least for me

Stan Lee himself said that Peter wasn’t a genius but was bright. He said that way he would relate more to the common person.
^ yeah, he is supposed to be more like the science nerd every highschool has. Maybe the 90’s cartoon took the concept too far (Peter analyzing the molecular structure of the Prometheus X alien rock with his home microscope was hilarious).
Later artists and writers were inconsistent about it, but Ditko didn’t really portray Peter as anything more than a really, really smart kid.
