I really doubt they would ever put carnage in a spider man movie. The reason is why is cause carnage kills people for fun. I doubt marvel wants a Rated R movie. Carnage was a lot bigger threat then Venom, he beat spider man and he beat Venom. Also carnage haters are pretty ignorant, their like Carnage got killed by Sentry. Well no shit, Sentry is one of the most powerful beings in marvel comics. It would be like if Galactus came to earth and just killed off wolverine.
Once again, as I think it’s been said at least 3 times in this thread alone, Marvel has several rated R movies already.
Honestly the biggest reason Marvel hasn’t moved Carnage into cinema is probably because he’s just not nearly as big of a seller as the rest of some of their flagship icons.
People don;t like Carnage because he was a really generic 90’s psycho villian who until recently did not have any interesting or well written stories. Seriously I want someone to name one fucking story that was a standout Carnage story other than Maximum Carnage which I’m pretty damn sure most of you didn’t read.
I’m just gonna copy and paste my entire comment from the second page, because people seem to be fond of talking out of their ass and skipping pages.
Carnage vs. Venom was decent, the 4 part arc “Minimum Carnage” was pretty awesome too. Superior Carnage has been a really interesting development as well. We also have his appearance in Shattered Dimensions, which was also pretty fun. Carnage Unleashed was…alright.
There’s plenty of examples of him in decent stories and contexts, but what I don’t understand even less so than the people who fanboy over him is the people who endlessly talk shit on his character for no reason. And the funny thing is, the consistency between people who say he’s a stupid character ALWAYS fail to state why and/or how he’s such a dumb character. Like you just did.
I’m not really sure what more people expect from Cleatus, he’s a simple enough concept of an antagonist. He’s a psychopathic, serial killing murderer. He is the classic definition of power in the wrong hands, and it’s the ultimate irony how crazy strong he is for being such a sick degenerate who’s only goal literally is to sow misery and suffering. The simplicity of his goals, combined with the complexity of Cleatus’ twisted thought process, is what makes him such an interesting character. He’s almost the exact contrast to Venom in the sense that Eddie uses his power to at least try and do something, positive OR negative. Carnage just wants to see the world burn.
Even disregarding all that, some people just like the guy because he is and always will be infinitely creepier than Venom…
People don’t like Carnage because hes not one of the old bad guys marvel has been using for the past 50 years. People want to keep seeing the same old villains that have been done before over and over and over. Why do people want to keep seeing green goblin? Hes already been done before, cause people know him thats why. The old gen didnt grow up with newer characters so they dont care. You cant really top Maximum Carnage story. Same with Thanos and the infinity gauntlet saga, how can you top destroying half the universe?
Even in dark knight rises, people compare Bane to Joker. Which isnt even fair since both characters are not even close to being any were near the same. And of course joker is going be a better character, everyone knows who he is.
people just want to keep seeing the same old bad guys they grew up with, and cant move on
I grew up with Carnage just fine. He’s a subpar villain, fueled on mindless killing and destruction. That can work for some other characters, some other stories, but not really for Spider-Man.
You’re absolutely right. Joker is a waaaaay better character then Bane. Banes a terrible character, made worse as time as has gone by. Bane should have stayed in the Knightfall arc.
Of all my years on the internet what I’ve learned is there is no point in trying to talk to trolls. No matter what you say you are always wrong to them, there is no point to talking to them what so ever so why even reply to them? For all I care they can all kill themselves. All I can say is green goblin has already been done before, but hey lets just keep remaking him and keep bringing him back a million more times.
Okay, keep continuing to think I’m a troll. I thought I was on your ignore list.
All I said was that Carnage was a subpar villain and you were being incredibly stupid in thinking that our reasoning is pertaining to nostalgia. Are some of Spidey’s best villains his early ones? Sure. Are all of them? Hell no. There’s a reason no one’s clamoring for the Tinkerer.
I mean, I find Mr. Negative to be relatively interesting and he debuted in 2007.
But if you want to complain about people wanting the major antagonist of Spidey to come back in force, when it’s a reboot then…I don’t know what to tell you. You can’t do Spidey without doing Green Goblin at least once. You can’t do FF without Doom once. Can’t do Supes without Lex once, etc… Those villains keep getting brought back for new media because they’re so tied into said characters. The heroes would not be who they are without said villains, simple as that.
Complain about overusage? It only matters as much as they continuously reboot said franchises. If they stopped rebooting so much, we wouldn’t see them nearly as much in film.
I don’t 100% disagree, but that last part I have to thump my chest a little bit. I think he’s actually quite perfect to play the role opposite Spiderman. I’ve ALWAYS felt that the best villains are usually mirrors or reverses of the main hero. either they share similar backgrounds but made one left instead of right, or they are complete opposites. Carnage is the complete opposite. “With great power…”, Carnage has GREAT power and takes NO responsibility. It’s quite the opposite actually…his lack of morals is akin to a lack of responsibility. To compare/contrast - Venom was (I can’t comment on anything venom post Eddie) Spiderman with a left instead of a right, which is why he plays the anti-hero role well - there is still a sense of a moral compass there with use of the powers to guard those morals.
I think the ‘true’ turn-off for most people about Carnage is actually pretty simple…
He’s a knock-off of a knock-off
He came from the 90s
His motivations are invisible and lacking. Like REAL motivation.
I mean lets call a spade a spade - Venom was cool because he was Scorpion to Sub-Zero. Carnage however is Reptile…not only is three a crowd, but it just feels like its a stretch and too much of a ninja-clone issue. On top of that he does not have history of other villains, there really aren’t many villains from the 90s who have survived and remained as they were. As someone mentioned - Bane should have just been a one-off with Knightfall. Doomsday as well…the pussification of his character is just sad. Finally, Cletus has no real purpose - and I think that’s what people don’t like. He’s like, “I’m going to kill, because I can”. There is no “get rich” scheme, there is no ‘turn the world into little carnages’, there is no ‘spider rights’ associated…he just kills to kill, and frankly that’s boring. For me, when I think Carnage I think of “Maximum Carnage” - and to care that arc he was surrounded by a large group of bad guys to make it more interesting. Frankly, he may even have been better handled as a Batman villain, where detective work is applied - because he really is just a serial killer.
