You need a pencil tipped shaped soldering iron, one that is 15 watts. I got mine for $15 at an electronics store. It looks like you are using one used for working on automobiles or something.

Also looks like you are using solid core wire. Solid core wire tend to rip out pcb contacts, so be careful.
I would suggest getting 22 - 26 gauge stranded wire, the wire looks a little thick. I think I see 18 guage? Yeah don’t do that. When you close it up you might rip the contacts you soldered to.

Tried modding my EX2 tonight and it turned out to be a total failure. My main issue was with my soldering iron, I don’t think it get’s hot enough. It’s not an expensive model so I can’t manually set the temp or anything. However, I overcame this by cleaning the tip more than usual and everything seemed to be going well.

Then the crotting daughter PCB snapped off somehow. I think the glue might have been weak because i turned the stick upside down to check something and it just plopped out. I then endeavored to solder the buttons to the main board but my soldering skills evidently weren’t up to the task since after I was done none of the damn buttons worked, except one and that one only sometimes. I’m probably just going to buy an SE Madcatz stick and put my buttons and stick in there. Anyone know if the Sanwa GT-Y fits in the SE stick?

yea, i made the panel. it was laser cut out of 1/8 acrylic

Thanks for the tips. I just desoldered everything and I’m def. using a different gauge wire. I’ll pick that up tomorrow, along with a 15watt soldering iron.

here is mine i did a while back orginal colors where red up top with bottom white buttons but i messed up the sauldering to the buttons and had tho order new buttons and with quick disconnects from the pcb to the buttons had to bend the tabs in order to get the back plate on for proper fitment

PCB of Hori Fighting Stick EX2 is not Common Ground.
So cannot Dual Mod.

You will have to use a Common Ground Mad Catz Xbox 360 Controller.
Or use a Common Line Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller.

Hello SRK I’m new to these forums. Modding the stick is new me but will make a interesting project .I have a couple of questions about modding the Hori EX2 fighting stick.

I’m putting Sanwa buttons on the stick. So the ones I need are the Sanwa OBSF-30 Pushbutton?

I also plan on putting a new ball top on there but wonder if this is good the Sanwa LB-35 Joystick Ball Top?

Last I want to change out the square gate and make it into a 8-way I’m not too sure about this but is removing the square plate in the hori and replacing it with a Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate do the trick or will I have to do something else?

You can use Sanwa OBSN-30 if you want.

Sanwa LB-35 is a 35mm Ball Top.
Standard Ball Tops are 35mm.

The Square you have in Hori Fighting Stick EX2 is already 8-Way.
But yes, you can replace the Hori with Sanwa GT-Y.
Will not be direct replacement.

Modded my EX2 again
Didn’t have any protection ontop of my first mod with self adhesive paper so you can imagine what sweat did to it after a couple of months.

I used 1mm Lexan/Polycarbonate. Although I didn’t have the tools I wish I had (like a CNC Router :wgrin:) I’m still kinda happy with it.
