As much as I am wanting new sprites for KOF, I understand completely. Because if this game tanks then SNK is fucked financially, then we will probably be hard pressed for a new KOF.
Yeah, it kind of feels like AoF 3; it looks friggin’ gorgeous, but something’s not quite right.
I mean, they’re having loke tests already, but the game feels only 50% completed. I’m still hoping for the best, but if this is all they can do, they’re going headfirst into bankruptcy. :shake:
Given the large spacing given from Zoom out, and also the threat of CC’s and the like making close in fighting risky, I like the idea of “Rage Gauge” meter. It’ll prevent massive amount of turtling, and keep everyone trying their best to keep attacking, rather than standing back and soaking up tick damage for time outs, or the like.
Maybe SFIV will force SNK to add a bit more than they think is possible, currently. Now, if they REALLY don’t have time to add many characters, I’d prefer it if they REALLY make sure the chara’s there now embody all the small details that KoF has had in the past.
Every build, the detail are looking different. Characters now “Weak-finishing-blow-collapse” when time runs out. The gravity of final falls feels more immediate, and there doesn’t seem to be as much “free fall gravity”. CCs aren’t popping up nearly as much. Are all the Weak-attack pokes in the videos an attempt to avoid clashing? If so, where do the CD-counters come in?
SFIV’s 3D graphics make it a lot easier to get characters into the game (Look at the time we had between “we haven’t decided on Cammy being in game yet” to “Here are screens of Cammy in action!”), and it’s just got a few more than KoF XII. I think if SNK was really smart about it, they’d make a fully canon OVA that deals with the story issues between KoFXI and the ideas introduced in XII, which will be fleshed out in XIII. Much like KoF Another Day.
…Or at least an HD version of a “Blue Mary’s Blues”-esque music video for the ending! Well, ok, maybe more like NGBC’s opening, just with a bit better animation, and more thematic.
I’d still have no problem with them releasing the game as it is, and then releasing DLC in order to fill in desired characters and teams, and maybe even things like better endings or “World Tour”-like modes.
Maybe even set up SERIOUS US and Asian community sites, and have each community vote in what teams they’d like to see added to the game, and add them in every few months. SNK really RARELY releases new games, so if they could milk this single release for a year or 2; Have One KoF fill in the blanks with incremental additions, while they have the majority of the team working on the next full game, that’d be preferable to “no full-on NEW releases for YEARS at a time”, as they currently are now.
For a series like KoF, which offered HUGE updates yearly, it shouldn’t be too much of a shift to offer something like that, yet now under the new rules of an internet-conscience world. Especially since Japan proves with things like Idolmaster, that desirable DLC can sell very well to their audiences.
Sounds like the reports from earlier were true. Its lame but the rumors about XII incomplete nature have been around for a while. Let’s just hope the game will be solid enough to stand on its own.
And can we quit it with the “KOF --” is better then “KOF --” stuff. Seriously it is a round about argument, most of us have different opinions and really none of them matter in context to KOF XII because this game is pretty much a brand new start for the series in more ways then one.
Let’s move on people.
No final boss?
So, uhhhh…what’s gonna happen in 1P mode? You beat all the characters and get a funky “Congratulations! You won the game!” screen. :looney:
I don’t think I could ever imagine a fighting game without a final boss…unless they make this SFA style with every character having a personal final boss.
Cronopio:
> No final boss is pretty lame indeed, why can’t they make one more character in five months?
They still need to test stuff out. It might take 4-5 months to make a character, but unless they’re willing to push back the game again, it might not be worth it just for an unplayable boss.
> I think I’m starting to agree with Ultima; they should have gone 3D and made a complete game instead of this rushed half assed shit.
Hey now. I don’t recall saying they should have gone with 3D or anything like that. All I’ve been saying is that their art method is so time consuming as to be incredibly cost-ineffective, and despite how good it looks, the game isn’t guaranteed to make much more bank than the average recycled KoF, so it’s quite possible this will pull an SF3 and take 5 years to make back what it cost initially. Maybe that’s what SNK signed up for with this labour of love, but I’m not sure if they quite knew what they were getting into…
I still want to see Samurai Shodown done in this process though.
Wow, creating new sprites fucked up the operation this badly…?
Sounds doable. The rest of the games issues might prevent that sort of solution from making a large difference though.
Ultima:
It’s so time consuming that they are rushing things (clashes are probably another consequence of that, so they don’t have to test even more stuff) and going to realease a pretty unpolished product. If they went with a less time / resource consuming method they probably wouldn’t have to leave things out like they are doing now.
Yep, there was a reason besides being cheap, why SNK rarely did new sprites for their games outside the occasional sequel or brand new series.
Given the team nature of the game and the fact that they probably won’t lock teams, I can’t see how that is possible.
The only way for any sort of boss might be a beefed up version of a playable character or lamest of lame, a mirror match. It would have been nice if they could have fit Adel into the game and made him the boss.
Is this getting a console release? or are they going to finish up the arcade version first then decide
It’s already slated for PS3 and 360 near the time summer comes around.
Are we all forgetting the fact that SNK is finally making something 100% new, after years of mostly-recycling being the biggest thing they’ve been able to do? No matter if this game had 12 characters and simple ending pictures for each character, y’know what? It’s already “outdoing” older works, as fas as the amount of work these guys are putting into getting this work out to you.
This stuff is expensive and takes time to make, and SNK doesn’t have infinite income streams. No company does. XII a Beta? No, XII is what they want to give us, and the best they can do with the best of their abilities. They’re doing much more than any of us expected of them, so lets appreciate that, for now.
Really, I’m hoping once this game gets in our hands, that all worries of “it’s too simple!” goes away, due to what’s there hopefully feeling very sharp and well planned. I’d prefer that, rather than a huge cluster of half-done characters just for the sake of numbers.
A bunch of months left, low amount of messing around with character graphics, high amount of concentrating on what we assume to be gameplay and game systems? Shouldn’t we be HAPPY about this?
I agree with everyone on the good and bad about the game. but everyone should buy it when it comes out. there’s worse things you could waste your money on like, overpriced socks from banana republic.
im still excited as hell for this, even though they keep cutting things
give it a 360 release (not getting my hopes up until i can preorder it), decent netcode, and no slowdown and ill be happy
sure a lot of the changes are starting to worry me, but ill survive
because worse comes to worse, its proving SNK is willing to try something new… and im willing to support that effort
sure, one of my main guys isnt in this, and some of the mechanics seem like that arent gonna be my favorite additions… but if i dont like it, whats the worse thing that can happen? i lose 50-60 bucks and get a lil back from selling the game?
i can live with that
i tried SF4, and im excited as hell for febuary
i tried blazblue, but still prefer GG
if i try this, either ill love it, or ill still have 2k2 for ggpo
here’s hopin for the best either way
the sprites are fuckin gorgeous though… it almost doesnt make me feel bad about having ash in my team lol
…almost, uuuuughhh fuckin girly bitch lol
SAB-CA:
> y’know what? It’s already “outdoing” older works, as fas as the amount of work these guys are putting into getting this work out to you.
No one is doubting that. But as I said earlier, at what cost? Anyone can outdo an older work by putting in an infinite amount of work and/or taking an infinite amount of time, but since SNK is a business and presumably wants to make money, there is such a thing as diminishing returns. There’s expensive, and then there’s too expensive. Don’t forget it was SF3’s cost (which took years to earn back) that killed Capcom’s interest in making brand new 2D fighters for good. We don’t want KoFXII to do the same to SNK.
Also:
> XII is what they want to give us, and the best they can do with the best of their abilities
The fact that they keep apologizing for stuff means that these two clauses are contradictory.
Ill buy as long as the gameplay is good, character count never really mattered.
It will have to have good netcode though.
they can’t make a boss in five months
it required 10 people and 1.5 years to make one character.
this 2D graphics business is serious.
blaming now on the graphics is retarded, what snk needs is a bigger studio, they need to hire more people to do the animations.
I just hope xii brings the money so we can have our 3th dream match
I stopped playing KOF after 2002 since there was no arcade when i moved so am really hoping this game is good I can see some different things in the vids in terms of gameplay if an NA release is too far off I might import it for PS3…maybe
No final boss? Seriously? Honestly a final boss doesn’t mean much to me but it really sounds like the devs are in over their heads a bit. I hope the final product isn’t as rushed as it sounds, especially considering how well the last KoF turned out.
