Apparently you haven’t been aware of SNK Playmore’s marketing “strategy” since…ever.
Everybody knows that it makes perfect sense to go years without releasing anything new or noteworthy, and then release all of your freshest, time-consuming, most-anticipated games within months of each other so that almost no one learns to appreciate any of them.
Well at least with 12 you know they are releasing it as a dream match because they have to. The other two are mainly to get cash, which I am sure non of us can really hate, because they haven’t done a lot since KOF XI dropped to get money to pay for the work being done on 12.
Although I wish they’d just released a Neo Geo Battle Coliseum 2.
Works for me…none of these games have that rushed-feeling gameplay that was spawned from the halfassed svc engine, unlike 2k3 and XI. I play 98 and 2k2 every day, so I don’t see how a near simultaneous release of the UM games can hurt. I’ll still pay full attention to both…the only thing that would be great would be if the UM games were also released for the psp (maybe a 2-pack? Kof Ultimate Dream Match Collection), since I have the most time for gaming away from home.
Basically a dream match, it is supposed to have no story and throws a bunch of characters together (possibly Billy, although there has been no confirmation of that). Other then not having a large cast of characters, how is it not a dream match?
And like I said, I know SNKP has to release KOF XII in a somewhat scaled down DM form because of the new sprites and the amount of time it takes to make. I’m not knocking it for a situation there is no way around other then not releasing the game, I am just saying, you could pretty much call this one a dream match.
Then i can also say that KoF XI is also a dream match because other than having a story how it`s not a dream match? It has a bunch of characters after all.
And it was said that story is yet not written not that there won`t be any story.
I just hope 13 is also a Dream match with more characters, instead of finishing the ash story and leaving alot of more interesting characters out. That will be the one to play after they figure out what works and what doesn’t in this new system through 12.
Part of the reason I disliked 11 as much as I did was simply that I felt it had such a weak roster in comparison to the other KoFs that people still play today.
I don’t mean rushed as in speed of making the game, I mean all dramatic emphasis on attacks is GONE, and the game moves faster. There’s no emphasis, no UMPH anymore.
Also, yeah they do. It feels like they scrapped the core kof system, made svc, then modified that system and tossed in the kof characters. It no longer really feels like KOF, but like some different game featruing the kof cast. Shame, really…those new characters 2k3 and XI introduced would be badass additions in the UM games…
11 has probably the BEST roster of any KOF. They got rid of all the stale, old characters…you know what? I’ve already responded this same argument a million times before, so I’ll just conclude that it is totally stupid to compare the roster of XI to DREAMMATCHES.
I think XI’s roster was pretty decent, but they got rid of my favorite character, so that kinda puts me off to XI (even though I’ve played it the most recently).
SNK has hinted strongly that they are going to make another UM- which might be a 2k3-XI style UM game.
I had issues with XI. The game has serious balance issues (while this is common with KOFs, it was worse then usual), a lot of Fatal Fury chars were dumped in favor of bonus chars that weren’t that interesting in some cases (Silber and Gai fit in, the Kizuna chars didn’t).
XI was still one of the better KOFs though, it just needed some heavy balance work, and more characters returning.
