The 2nd KOFXII Thread (debuting at AM Show in September)

A few more pictures.

At first, this game didn’t look as impressive as SF3. IMO it looks a little bit better. The animation doesn’t look quite as good SF3, but the game itself looks more impressive.

It’s nice to see Iori with a fresh set of moves. I’m now anxious to see Kyo an Iori rival intro.

I’m hoping it involves a lil shit-talk, and then Kyo dodging his ass off, avoiding multiple rapid slashes (with both characters exhibiting animations not present in their movesets or in-round animations), a couple dramatic attack clashes, then match start.

I think the animation is indeed not as fluid as SF3’s, but the resolution is much higher, so it’s easily compensates that for me.
Hmm… doesn’t they said something like that in an interview, that they kept the same frames as they were in older KOF games, and remade them in high resolution?

Btw, why did they gave back the long range fireballs to all? I liked Andy more with his close range fbs.

Damn, that looks gorgeous. :lovin: Nice to see Iori with new clothes. And Ralf looks huge, man.

not feeling the clash system

seems to me they’re redoing classic version of MOST of their characters, including movesets
original outfits
original moves

they can’t add too many frames because then it won’t be kof anymore. This is something capcom ignored with sf3. I think that is one of the reasons the game didn’t sell well because it was way too different from sf2.

seriously if you really want the 3s killer you’ll have to wait for garou 2

Lol…now SF3 didn’t sell well because it was TOO well animated?

Dang…poor Capcom can’t do anything right…

I dont know what to think of it either. I dont like the idea of AA specials trading with normals. I also dislike how it “resets” the character. I just need to play and see what its like. Didnt they SNK say they are still just testing this system out to see if it works? I hope they get lots of good input on it.

Im not to sure of it as well… i wonder if people will use clashing in a defensive/offensive way:confused: it would piss me off no end that i would use up and lose my dm stocks to some random normal/special:mad:

it could also get very annoying if multiple clashes occured.

The director said he saw multiple clashes occur and wanted to fix that.

i dont know how people can say at this moment in time this game does not look as good as sf3 3s, they’re either biased fan boys or have got shit in there eyes, the game almost looks too good.
As for clashing to me it just looks like others have said a lazy way to deal with hitboxes and priority, back when i used to play gg you’d get a clash maybe once a game if that, i’m seeing 5 plus every video i see so far, that video where robert qcb k in the air and raiden does his shoulder barge 3 fucking times just looks stupid, i really hope this game is not a complete turkey

don’t want to ruin your praising party, but character proportions look really bad… that’s a damn shame for such sprite quality, but ffs…

Ralf is huuge, Kim & Terry are too buffed and Kyo is too thin… doesn’t match with character proportions used in the previous games with the old sprites where there weren’t such big differences between those characters.

yes we’ve heard this all before, to be honest i think there’s alot more pressing concerns.

it’s obvious they’ve found cartmans stash of beefcake 2000

Character proportions in the old games were realistic because the game, while hand-drawn, was trying to look realistic and serious, compared to the anime-esque sf series. This is not some company re-drawing old sprites in their own style (which don’t look any different once the game is in motion, despite all the time spent on it )This game is drawn from scratch in an anime style, so muscular characters are muscular characters, and non-muscular characters are pretty much gonna be stick-boys. Ralf works out. Working out = buff. I know that sounds weird to you, but it does work (I and a lot of other members who regularly pump iron can testify to that). Terry works out. Kim works out. Andy works out. Benimaru works out. Kyo doesn’t work out (slacker has his flames so he doesn’t feel a need to), so femmy- japanese-guy body for him. Iori has good genetics, so he appears somewhat more muscular than Kyo. There you go. Deal with it.

Man I like how some of these companies give y’all gold, and you give a vomit in return. SNK worked their ass off and I can see it in the videos. Easily one of the top 10 most beautiful 2d fighters I ever seen in my entire life.

This is worth the neg when I say this. Shut–The–Fuck–UP on how the characters look, and worry about the gameplay, this is to the dumb twats complaining already:confused:

This. I don’t see why people are still complaining about the proportions. They all make sense now, and it’s most definitely a better alternative to everyone having the exact same joe schmo physique despite their obvious physical properties and differences.

Ralf and Raiden should be as big as they are because they hit HARD and are apparently physical powerhouses. Ryo, Terry, Kim, and all the OG peoples who are trained fighters should be as big as they are because they all work out. Ash and Kyo, who are canonically powerful but not physical powerhouses, should be as they are, and etc.

[/nerd]

The only problem I have with the animation is that some noticeable things are still animated with 1 or 2 frames, which looks really out of places. Case in point, watch Kyo’s death fall @ 0:52 of this vid: http://www.gamespot.com/arcade/action/thekingoffightersxii/video/6199269. It’s just one frame flying through the air, which looks really strange when everything else is so fluid. Same thing when characters bounce from hitting the ground. I know these aren’t gameplay related, but consistent (animation) quality and attention to detail are things that separate good titles from GREAT ones. And XII has a lot of awesome small details - like the way Andy brings down his hands when coming out of blocking, so smooth. It’s little things like that which go a long way, IMHO.

Uh, do you realize they are purposedly going for a stylized look right? You may not like it, but there’s nothing objectively wrong with proportions or anything.

SFIV did something similar, and it looks great too. STHD tried it also, but it looks like garbage.

As for the clashes, yes, as I’ve said before I too think they are completely retarded, but so does the director apparently and he wants to fix them. I hope they get it right (or better yet, completely remove them from the game like they did with wall bounces -which they sounded fine on paper by the way, dunno why they left this shit and took out those-).
