The 2nd KOFXII Thread (debuting at AM Show in September)

If things get slowed down can’t that just be fixed with a slight boost in game speed?

Thanks good sir, you basically said what I wanted to say to RoS. And yes to HE, better graphics is evolution. Fuck up with you people today? If you people want to start hating on KOF12 take it somewhere else. The mothafucking game isnt out yet and you guys start nitpicking bullshit. Fuck outta here.

DJ I’m all up for KOFXII. SNK got my support. As I said it’s about the game being good. That’s what matters to me and that’s what SHOULD matter. But no. People want to bitchass spoiled children and bitch if KOFXII isn’t like the same OG formula.

Likewise, I support SNK to the fullest. I am excited that its going back to the OG way of fighting. Even if it had some crazy new formula, I would still support it. Its KOF, I always give it a chance no matter what. Shit if it had the same graphics I would still support it. Just people have to stop nitpicking so early in the game. Play first, hate later.

Thats not actually how it works honestly. They could add more frames of animation to SFII if they wanted to and it wouldn’t make the game any slower or faster then it already is.

I think the issue with the post was that you guys say its evolving the game play or whatever then mention something that really has nothing to do with game play I.E. the graphics. Don’t get me wrong i understand what graphics bring to the package I’m drooling over these screens. It looks beautiful so far, but it doesn’t really have anything to do with how the game plays. More frames has nothing to do with speed of the game, thats a misconception. Moves don’t come out slower just because there are more frames.

Personally i want them to back peddle. I hate all those cancel systems and tags and stuff. Its too much for my brain to handle and keep track of and i feel like im working my ass off all the damn time spinnin my stick endlessly lol. I like simpler systems so going back to the old days of no tags and basic game play sounds like an awesome move to me. I love the idea of having the cast chosen based on who people like and not what makes sense in KOFs senseless story. Its an all star cross over game bring on everyone people WANT to see. I know Angels pretty popular how about we see her again huh? Who cares if her story arc is over bring her back shes fun to use.

So all the high hopes for KOFXII and all lets just not pretend adding more frames and high res graphics are going to an evolution to KOFs game play because its not. Its just pretty as fucking hell which is awesome lets just hope they are putting as much care into the system and some semblance of balance as they are into making Terrys kicks look so bad ass (I need a knew pair of chucks to.)

So Wikipedia says that Famitsu says that Geese, Rock, and Billy are confirmed for the game as a team.

Anyone that can confirm or deny?

Likewise, that would be awesome.

well its sourced at famitsu, but when I look i dont see any recent articles on KOF. I also clicked on all the articles from the past 2 days and searched for “xii” and found nothing, so i would say its a dumb prank

No Dencore.

graphics do really change a game

I was there back in '96

kof 96 changed the way we played kof, mostly the complaints were from the speed of the game, although it felt a little less clunky the game felt slower, supers didn’t come out as fast as before,we had to change tactics because old ones didn’t work in this game, it wasn’t a very easy transition but it happened perfecting the game with kof 97 speed increase and kof 98 better controls.

This game marks a new beginning for Kof and I assure you one thing, It is going to be slower.

Yeah, they can add more animations and still make the game play just like old KOF, they just have to make the animations really fast for weak attacks.

Yes, but now you have to deal with the “Wall Splat” feature, so technically its not going back to old KOF style completely. I’m all for it if they decide to not include it.

I guess that when you devolve a lot, going back to your roots qualifies as evolving.

I hope that Geese, Rock and Billy being in the game is true.

Info on beta can’t come soon enough.

…it’s 2008 now.

fixed

why do you feel that snk using rotoscope to get accurate high res sprites is an scandal , as an animator i fell that they are trying to bring a quality game, and if tat means use rotoscope techniques then its welcome

that, we need to support the games for their quality and not only for the name, im pretty sure that we will see a game with good quality in gameplay, i really dont care if the game has or not tagging, if the game is good im happy

p.s.

forget the old school, thats why the fighting game industry doesnt evolve, i never understad why some people bitches when they try to evolve and make the experience better, i really preffer games with complex learnig curves, we are in the 2008, so we need games that feel of the 2008, and dont get me wrong, i like old school games, but i want games with new features too

KOF XII and BB FTW :woot:

Clashing
I detest it in Arcana Heart because I feel it breaks up the flow of the game, but I realize that it makes up part of the strategy and adds some depth. The same holds true for Weapon Lord, where one may even break the opponent’s weapon by cancelling a clash into a certain special move. In KOF (a comparatively slow-paced, non-multi-hit-combo-reliant series), I honestly do not see how this feature could be implemented well. Some moves already have autoguard/guard point, and what is wrong with the “priority” and “timing” systems, anyway?

Wall splat, etc.
Interesting (but IMO annoying) if applied to a 3D environment, with multiple means of approaching and escaping walls, as well as specific wall combos that depend on character weight and such. In a 2D game, it could serve as a fun gimmick at best (e.g. some moves could have a wire/wall splat effect if done near the corner, thus making them more viable) or a mindless combo extender at worst (Rage of the Dragons).

Re: '98 UM
The above features may be the only new additions, or the tip of an iceberg. If the former is true, and Rock, Shen Woo, Elisabeth (and Oswald?) are the only “newer” characters, then yes, SNK might as well have created the new graphic style for '98 UM and tossed in the aforementioned characters. On the other hand, perhaps we will see a slew of new faces, and one or more fundamental gameplay alterations (AT LEAST give us tag fans proper team (S)DMs, i.e. less sloppy than NGBC’s Double Assaults!).

I don’t think you get it either. Look at SFIII, a lot of moves are slower on startup compared to SFII due to the increased amount of animation. Yeah, specials are still going to be quick due to invincibility, but normals took longer to come out. With KOF, a lot of normals are still animated like it’s SFII. I expect that to change, unless they decide for GG-style animation quality, which I hope doesn’t happen.

Goddamn do I want this game. Honestly, if it changes up the gameplay significantly… makes it slower… I’m fine with that. If I want tag, I’ve got KOF XI. If I want old-school, I’ve got '98 UM. I want SNK to show something new, and I’m hopeful that KOF XII will do that.

why?, the gg animation its really good and it has the necesary amount of frames, of course it could be more fluid (thats why we have bb), its only like 3 to 5 frames less compared to sf3 and we need to remember that sf3 reuse all the animations in every sp and every super, what it makes feel diferent the animation of gg is the hit pause and the recovery cancel between moves, if snk is planning to make a more fast gameplay im fine with that, if they want to go to fancy animations making it slower the gameplay im ok too

this man speaks with wisdom

Well I’m sure clashing wasn’t something that was thrown in haphazardly. Besides this game still has a test period to go through as it’s not even finished.

Yes but to me (and many others because I know that I am not alone) it takes away the artistic feel of the animation, similar to how computer paint takes away the artistic feel cels do. I’m not saying that I’m mad that SNK is doing it nor that I don’t understand (I can see why). It’s just that I would prefer to have it not rotoscoped to get that certain “feel” with the animation that’s all; I still think the game looks amazing and it’s great to see what SNK is doing.

I agree with a lot your points. Though to me the fighting industry doesn’t evolve primarly due to the genre not having a home like it used to for a healthy scene (the arcades are dead) as well as fans not wanting the games to change (thus the lack of variety as most games are still 1 v 1 single plane fighters). The latter really isn’t exclusive to this genre just look at the huge Diablo III petition against the game for having “too much color”.
