Basically a intro to kof video which is really well done. I was thinking of giving this its own thread so it can be general KOF discussion but wasn’t sure. Should this get its own topic? and also watch the vid

It’s a good video, really good… especially when all forums and topics on KOF are always just “here is a combo, here is another combo… now figure out everything else out on your own, gringo”

I think we should just make a seperate topic so that we can just talk the basics of any kof, not omg in depth combos and stuff, and use the vids to make a booster point.

Ya, it pisses me off how people try to avoid talking about real strategy in the game. Like, I was trying to bring up how certain things might be good ideas, and this worked for me, etc… and they will just spit back some BC combos at you. It would be nice to discuss things with players who are willing to share information rather than just keeping it to themselves. :china:

ill wait for u dude since its your vids that will be the main teaching point. One thing I would recommend is a seperate vid going over the different year specific gameplay elements (Extra mode, Striker System, 03 Tag, XI tag, Armor/Counter Mode, and hopefully some XII stuff once enough info comes out)

A lot of that stuff is self explainatory. I think what he’s trying to do here is explain the mindset of the game, which is great.

true, though a lot of new players get turned off by seeing 10+ literations of KOF and others not having a clue which ones to play, differences between both, etc etc. Maybe not part of this series but could def. use something I guess.

I mentioned it on CX so I should say it here as well. In KOF there seems to be pretty much zero matchup discussion at all.

A member asked for help on facing Chris and no one said anything. There’s always poke with this, hop with that but you don’t fight everyone the same. There’s always combo discussion. Nothing else.

because thats usually how KOF is all about. Knowing how to link a combo and running with it for max damage until they’re dead (reminds me of later tekkens nowadays) XII seems to change that due to the more basic movelists, but Im not the type that uses combos, I’m the one that does strict matchups and stuff. I wish CX would promote more of that since it has the board space but its mainly a site for combomakers/casuals so it can’t be helped as much. Probably why I main here more nowadays (that plus the board is more active overall)

Yeah, I’m trying to stay away from system mechanics/rules, combos, tricks, etc. and just talk about how to do damage, how to defend, risk/reward of certain stuff, etc. The video is made to apply to XII, since that is going to be the one with the most popularity. So all the stuff I use, I’m specifically only using stuff that I know exists in XII. For example, you’ll never see Iori or Kyo’s rekkas. I’m gonna cover advanced stuff which works in every KOF that applies especially to XII, but I’m not going to talk about alternate guard, for example, because it doesn’t apply to XII.

Not in this vid, at least. It’s actually a lot of fun making vids, so I might make tutorials like this one that are more specific to certain games, specially ones that no one plays and needs a lot of explaining like KOF2000.

I’d say the vid was a pretty good way of introducing the KoF basics in a simple visual manner, especially in regards to the importance of short hops. Keep at it, Dandy!

Also, bonus points for using the 2K OST as background music. One of the best soundtracks SNK has made, IMO.

I definitely know what you mean, since I in particular don’t care much for long combos and what not and just stick to tactics and BnB.

[Dunno which KOF you are referring to but I’ve had to fight a lot of Chris users in 02 and it can be very frustrating because of his damn jCD. I find that having a character with a great anti air (like Ryo or K9999) really help to lock his air BS out. Lock that out and you have already made progress since he doesn’t have any hard hitting/dangerous moves on the ground. Having a character with counter moves helps too, like Takuma (who has an excellent cross-up as well) ]

It’s harder to do matchup discussions at that level of generality, in a game with 40+ characters. Especially since many chars rely on different tools to fight Chris. There’s also the character order issue as well- 1st rounds and 5th rounds tend to be fought differently.
