Yea well I’m confused at how society expects people to live on dog shit pay. The whole situation is upside down imo.

Raising minimum wage won’t fix the problem tho. That’s a mistake we have tried multiple times to 0 real net posative.

We need to figure out how to get prices down, not raise wages up across the board. That doesn’t work.

Hmm dunno. When I felt I needed more money, I got a better job. I never sat and thought hey they should just raise my pay cause I need more. Or move to where the cost of living isn’t gouging your soul.

Just hella weird realization.

I mean that’s super cool for you dude but not everyone has that option. Not everyone can get a different better paying job, or shit moving is fucking expensive. They can’t afford to live how are they going to afford to move? It cost me 10 grand to move from Mass to Arizona and I was only able to do it because I had a house to sell otherwise I’d still be on the east coast trying to figure out how make it work in a place it’s expensive as fuck to make work.

I mean no disrespect here but it doesn’t seem like you’ve thought much about this beyond your own personal situation.

Not taking it personal and I’m definitely just gauging this from my own experience.

Like I said I’m low key shocked that’s whats considered poor for some places. Thought middle class started at 40k or so and you were mostly good(hell especially if you’re single). I just have a real hard time seeing that.

I hit 70k a year, am I like lower middle class!? Where is the middle class now? :joy:

Learning experience is good. Legit been thinking of moving into politics.

38k is definitely poor in NY where aoc is from. Rent there is outrageous.

38 isn’t necessarily poor here in mi but you’re probably living check to check and priced out of health care.

Major city expenses have always been asinine though.

I just don’t understand how AoC and others tote 15$ living wage but then basically 18.25$ is still poor. Something ain’t right. Maybe wages aren’t the whole issue.

I think rising costs are the issue. Everything keeps getting more expensive and the wages aren’t able to keep up in one way or another.

I think it would be more effective to look at what is driving costs instead of raising wages. Like I don’t need 15 an hour, I need a living solution that isn’t my entire pay check for a hovel as an example. Why is a tiny weeny studio apartment with the only other room being the bathroom 850 dollars a month? And that was back in 2000. To upgrade to a 2 bedroom was $2400 a month. For two rooms. That’s fucking stupid as shit.

Jeez where is that? I can’t imagine spending that kinda cash on just a 2br. I paid 1.3k for a 4br 2 full bath.

Yeah we def need more solutions.

Massachusettes.

Where are you?

We have to start somewhere even if $15-18 isn’t quite livable with high expenses such as kids and healthcare. I think it should be $20 a hour.

Also i may make an official complaint for the mobile version of this site. I will maybe suggests some improvements.

In california 38k is well i mean you would be in a roomate situation or live at home.

The problem is getting higher paying jobs is not just education but knowing the right people and being a damn good interview with skills to promote

I mean dc is a shithole but an expensive one.

I live in the burbs and houses in some parts are fucking expensive.

Most people work in la then live out in the ie and commute like me.

But california is expensive compared to utah and arizona sure.

But i can afford it

Thank you tax payers

How do we get that genie back in the bottle though? When everything across the board costs more, where do you start to try to manage that? Raising salaries seems like a more workable solution than telling companies what they can or should charge for things unfortunately.

Indiana.

Please no, I don’t want to pay 8 dollars for bread thanks.

No fucking idea, but raising min wage hasn’t helped, it just makes it worse so why keep trying it? I dunno what the fix is but identifying the actual problem is the first step to actually fixing it.

But it keeps not working no matter how many times we try it. How long are we gonna keep doing shit that clearly doesn’t work?

I would rather they didnt, every time they do this the price of everything around me goes up exponentially and I end up worse off then before I got the min wage raise. It literally fucks me over every time and makes life harder.

I’d really like us to stop doing shit that not only doesn’t help, but does the opposite and makes shit harder.

Raising to 20$ would just fuck everybody. How bout we not.

15-18 is livable with kids depending on where you are.

Prices rise because well wallstreet and distributers say so.

That is the only reason cost of living has gone up.

I mean in and out still the same prices for 30 years i have been going

It is just how the market skiewed this decade

I mean i am smart with my money, but things are just so much more expensive inflation is a fucking bullshit concept

Cali is one of the places with those high paying jobs y’all keep telling poor people to get.

Like that’s the catch 22 of the whole situation. The places that pay good money are expensive to live.
