He didn’t ban them. It’s been a rule that they have to stand, and that’s been there since before he took over. He’s just reminding everyone of the rule.
Silver’s acting hypocritical to me if he’s taking a stand on the whole kneeling thing but at the same time doubled down on other SJW outrages like removing the ASG from Charlotte over that transgender bathroom law.
*It was a smart move on his part from a business standpoint. He’s built up significant goodwill with the public in being progressive and allowing the players to express their opinion freely. However, he’s correctly assessed that both the public and firms have incorrectly taken “kneeling during the anthem” as a protest against the military and patriotism. So instead of potentially allowing the public to question whether NBA players actively share that same (erroneous) viewpoint by doing the same gesture (kneeling), he’s taken that option off the table. Therefore it’s less likely that the NBA will receive public backlash via the fans or their business partners. *
I thought it was about protesting supposed racial injustice and police brutality, not the military and patriotism. I still think players should have the freedom to express their opinions. Much like how some players are free to believe the Earth is flat, they should be just as free at making themselves look like idiots to the public. Hell, I’ve always been against the dress code and want to see players bring back the Ecko, Karl Kani, FUBU and Lugz.
It’s whatever though, Silver’s putting sponsorship money (dat BRI) over anything else, and it’s a rule that has been around for years and the players agreed to follow when they sign the CBA.
*It is about protesting racial injustices and police brutality. However some people have ignored the original intentions of the protest and twisted it into it being a anti-patriotism and anti military protest. I agree that players should have the freedom to express their personal opinions, and they do, however I think he is doing this move in the best interests of public perception of the league and more importantly their bottom dollar. I think people will recognize that if they haven’t already because Silver has been very progressive and he allows players to speak freely about all things. *
Basically, Silver is protecting the brand and keeping the money flowing until the larger public finally gets educated about what the protests are actually about. That probably won’t even happen because of how dumb people are. Like I actually saw somebody say that they think the protests were about Trump and being mad Hillary lost.
John Collins is going to be special. Haven’t seen a PF with athleticism like this since young Blake. Makes solid plays, just needs minutes and seasoning. Expect his dunks to be on Sportscenter a lot.
Olynyk is doing point forward for us, a lot of dribbling, playmaking and floor spacing. Pretty much everything we wanted from McRoberts.
