That was good…but nah my list still stands…as they were more exciting. especially 2003 since Jordan was supposed to have the last shot but Jermaine dumb ass…
Spree did all of that to himself. He was a first team All-NBA at one point in his career and now he’ll be remembered for all of the wrong reasons.
Also, OKC got smoked by the Book of the Dragan. It shows how much difference having an actual NBA coach will have compared to the mess that was Watson.
As for the latest Ball mess, Rick is 100% right. LaVar isn’t a coach or a former player of any note, why should his comments be published like that? He’s entitled to his opinion but that doesn’t mean ESPN should turn to him for any answers.
Clicks and views bud. Media outlets will never admit it, but they absolutely love when someone like LaVar comes along. That dude is a walking dollar sign. If folks don’t want LaVar around, ignore any media around him. Which comes around to the real truth - we can’t, but in some way or another we care about what he says. Whether it’s to laugh at him, with him or just to keep up, we’re gonna keep watching and talking about dude.
Can’t have it both ways. Either completely ignore and avoid everything about him or hop on the train and accept he’ll be relevant as long we make it that way.
I saw we were talking about Grant Hill earlier as well. He was definitely slotted to be the chosen one but as soon as he left Detroit his body fell apart. As a Suns fan I was glad he was able to rebound when he did but it’s depressing to think about what could have been if not for the injury bug.
rick isn’t right though. there’s been plenty of times a parent has gotten in on the media and made a mess of things. it isn’t up to the media to have discretion on what can/will have an effect on a front office.
yeah, super unfair to luke and the lakers players. unfair to lonzo.
but the media is just covering lavar because the lakers empowered him by choosing lonzo.
magic knew this was part of what he was signing up for.
the blame isn’t on the media for delivering the message and giving lavar a platform.
the blame should be on lavar for being who he is and magic for drafting someone knowing what baggage came along with it and not nipping it in the bud before this.
CTG is right (yuck), the media is a business where its about reporting anyone who’s relevant. lakers made lavar relevant and gave him the validation that he is right to act like he does. media is doing their job by following stories and printing their coverage. media shouldn’t be the scapegoat for what is obviously a shitty in-house situation for the lakers that was going to come to a head eventually.
Lavar is clearly being reinforced by all of this attention, however. If the attention suddenly disappeared I think Lavar would tone down and things can start stabilizing. Instead he keeps getting reinforced for his antics with attention and goes and further and further down the rabbit hole, taking his family with him.
He is right in this regard and most sports broadcast has questioned this. Is Luke Walton the right coach for that franchise? This was before Lavar said anything about it. Most Lakers fans (I am a lonzo and Kuzma fan primarily a Mavs fan) want Luke out and would rather have Fizdale or someone with some experience. So Lavar is right in that regard. No way the Lakers are the worst team in the west talent wise.
If you watch the games you see lack of effort on defense and offense. When there is a lack of focus, effort or discipline that is a coaching issue. Maybe be hasn’t loss the locker room but the players aren’t doing what they should be doing. Explain the inconsistent minutes from player like Kuzma, Randle and others? The inconsistent rotations? The lack of plays designed around getting Kuzma and Ingram better shots? The lack of adjustments when Lonzo isn’t in the lineup? There are many areas that Luke is dropped the ball in and Lavar was right to come out and critic him. Maybe the manner isn’t as nice as some others would have done it but the point got across. Lavar doesn’t lie when it comes to his antics. He always speaks some valid truth im everything he says.
The way other coaches are rallying behind Luke leads me to believe that all of this isn’t on Luke. The Lakers right now are in the same boat the Suns are/were in right after the Markieff drama settled in: there’s a poison in the locker room, and I don’t think it’s Luke.
but if luke gets fired, who would ever want to go coach the lakers?
a players dad can get you fired
you are dealing with a media circus around someone you can’t control
your day-to-day is going to be hell
at a moment notice you’ll be responsible for answering for lavar’s flippant comments
i’m a warriors fan that has been saying luke’s decisions (and i respect luke a lot) have been wild, but its a common thought in lakers circles that he isn’t being allowed to set his lineups and that’s been something that’s being handed down from up above. there’s no skill reason lonzo should’ve been starting while kuzma was on the bench and performing better than any player on the team. there’s no reason to invest so heavily into rentals like brook and bogut when you have a disgruntled player like randle playing as well as he was. it sounds like lakers bureaucracy like usually getting in the way of success.
but the situation lavar is putting the lakers in is only going to result in a weaker coach. no one will want to coach that team if they are signing up to dodge bullets at a moments notice.
Actually there is a reason to start Lonzo several actually. The Lakers were worse on defense and offense without him. Reason being is you have Clarkson and Ingram bringing the ball up and they don’t actually execute the offense. If you watch the Lakers run Horns, Clarkson and Ingram don’t go through the full progression of the offense and take bad shots. You can see it in games when Lonzo hits the bench. When Clarkson does the PnR and has the open pass to give to Randle he attempts to make a play instead of pass it. Lonzo actually collapses the defense and nails those passes to get easy buckets. Also they both were turnover machines without Lonzo. People sleep on his impact or the game and you could tell by how bad the offense looled when he didn’t play.
Lonzo being on the court improves BI scoring average and the percentage of Kuzma. They both get easier buckets with Lonzo in the game. During that stretch of Lonzo being injured their shooting percentages were down.
Lonzo on defense is missed. Lonzo covers for the inability of his teammates to stop penetration. You see it every game when some a player is being defended by Lopez (who can’t hit shots) or Randle get their shot rejected because Lonzo makes the play on the ball.
Yes Lonzo shot wasn’t falling but it is now. You need reps and you need to plau through that shit. Benching wouldn’t have helped. People expect Lonzo to average 24-26 a game with 12th assist which is wrong. Lonzo numbers in college were 15 7 7. He doesn’t even habe elite shooters on his team and is still getting 7 assist. He is giving you rebounds. Lonzo scored on college off of drible penetration and step back 3’s on his right to create seperation he is literally doing the same thing he did in college. His 3 ball came from being spot up, bringing the ball upcourt or his big finding him open. Thay is exactly what he did then. Yes his scoring this year had been bad but his recent sample size suggest that he is trending up which is due to the reps and getting used to playing at a pro level.
I think Luke needs be fired but only if I don’t see a change by seasons end. If you are the coach and othees are preventing you from doing your job then yoi shouldn’t be coaching. Period that is in any sport. No one is going to dictate my team and how we run shit. If he can’t stand up to the front office or whoever may be telling him to play xyz rotation then that validates EVERYTHING Lavar said. Look needs to do 2 things. Find his rotstions, bench KCP and Lopez and start Randle and Kuzma in their place. Also he needs to draw up more plays for Kuzma and BI.
Just want to say, the NBA threads were he only thing keeping me on this trash forum lol. Thanks for being part of my NBA fandom since 09 when I came in these threads talking shit cuz the Lakers were rolling. Shout outs to the other lakers fans from 09(and earlier I’m sure) still posting over the years, we made it past everyone’s bullshit!!! And it looks like we’ll have to make it past SRK forums’ lifetime too. Shout outs to familar faces like @GeoG2 and @subt-L being a constant in these threads.
Fuck the Houston Rockets. Fuck David Stern for dream canceling CP3 to LAL.
