I apologize in advance for any vids of me playing, Ive been outta the country for practically the past 5 months and arrived two days before TS5. Hella rusty!! Scrubtacular!

Texas Showdown 5 was TOO HAWT! Texas repped HARD in all the games!

#reload What the hell! Houston barely ever practices anymore and practically everyone did awesome! Our collective group in #r is freakin tough to beat.
Marn CRAZY CRAZY! Congrats! Brother did awesome, and finally proved his stuff. Just let the haters hate. If they werent there, they have no idea how much youve improved and what a beast you are now.
Alex Finally!! Ive been telling everyone that your Slayer is no joke. And now, everyone got a chance to see it. This is just the beginning of the buffet. Slayers gonna want seconds at more majors.
Robot Great stuff man. Youre execution with Sol is scary as hell.
Genius Good shiet as always. Its so tough playing against you, because we know the matchup in and out.
Kensou Crazy Chipp. Youre matches were hella close in Top 16.

There were tons of great #reload players at the tournament. Upsets everywhere. Combofiend, Floe, Ruin, ElvenShadow, Hanzo, Cue, Russell, Fubarduck, Austin guys, the rest of the Houston crew, just tons of people! Competition was intense!

3s Way too many Kens and Chuns. Austin came in full force for this one. They had the best group by far. Hopefully outta towners saw the power of Austins 3s scene, which doesnt consist only of Hsien, Mopreme, and Fubar. IE: Alex Yoon, Lee, Jaime, Mike Lai, Mike Jones, James Crawford, Averille, countless others.
The outta towners were hella solid. Top 16 was NO JOKE! I got peaced out by Ricky Ortizs Chun and Combofiends Elena. Really bad matchups for Makoto. Boo.

Combofiend, Arturo, Justin, X, Floe, Nibor, Ricky, Cole, Biggzy, Alex Navarro, Cue, Simon, ElvenShadow, Frankie, Pyro, Baltimore Chun, DSP, Empire Crew, and so many others I cant name them all.

I also would like to apologize for the not getting Interviews. Everytime I wanted to do it, the moment didnt seem right. People were way too busy playing serious casual, team tournaments, pool matches, watching stuff. It just didnt seem appropriate at the time.

Big shout outs to my roommates. Logan amodf, Dr. Deelite, Kamui, Tirian, and Lizzie. Always funny discussions, especially when drunk.

Oh Mike Lai, when will you ever learn. You can never beat me in a tournament. I believe its like 2 years now and countless tournaments. It doesnt matter who you pick, Yun, Ken, Chun, the end result is inevitable. You lose and cry, and I just brush my shoulders off once again. After TS5, I re-analyzed our rivalry. I’ll forever kick myself in the ass for this one…Work owned me for free so I couldn’t make it (job #2 of 3)…and I live 2 blocks from Hobby Airport…I fuckin’ LIVE here now and I couldn’t make it to this, Fuck being a grownup.

Best tournament ever.

It’s come so far, six years ago this was 30ish people in ratty U of H gameroom playing on sticks you could churn butter with while people bowled twenty feet away.

Ranma seriously has done so much for TX, the only downside is he has no time to hang out. I guess it was lost in a database crash on site here a while back or something, but two, three years ago he made a big post about quitting tournaments and games and SRK, I forget who brought that up at the tournament. And here he is still working his ass off to make it better.

Awesome seeing people like Sabin again after so long, awesome meeting people like Buktooth and Lay (good luck on the DVD!), awesome hanging out with the usual people I always do all weekend (amodf, Vigorous, Fubarduck, Kamui, Krazystep, please marry me, I’ve never laughed so much in my life, Cole/Crow/Buktooth’s friend Popoforever), hilarious hanging out with the Japanese players in Austin after. It’s sad that the dying arcade scene and Capcom’s inattention make this seem like a fading thing even as it builds up steam. The biggest draws are six year old games, thanks for CFJ Capcom!!! Hopefully people like Ranma, Javi, Chris Wong, and others all over, even the MLG people, can keep it going, it would be a terrible shame to lose this to online games, interest waning, whatever.

Again best tournament ever. Buy the DVD. Vigorous alone will make it worth your while. I promise. And if you don’t get it for Vigorous, get it for Alex Yoon, I wish I could carry that guy around with me in my wallet.

With regards to the whole “japanese own us” thing, they goddamn better own us. With the near-infinite amount of comp they have over there, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t. It doesn’t have anything to do with “being japanese”. You take a good american player, put him in the japanese arcades for a year, and see how good he turns out. I’ll guarantee you he’ll take tops in any tournament.

Until we can find a way to cultivate here the kind of community the japanese already have in place, we’ll always be a distant second to them. There’s no shame in it; it’s just the way things are.

Anyways, good shit to all you #R players. Now come to MWC so the midwest can have it’s turn. :tup:

Tenessee hustlaz should change their name to “cant even win in their own state” (example citation: STL showed up to a Kumite in Tenessee and KDX couldnt even win Guilty Gear and lost to Unconkable who doesnt play XX, Albiet this tournament was XX and not #R and was 2 years ago, it still is valid citation)

As for the Texas Results: why are people surprised? Local Texas players place high in a Local Texas Tournament. Not surprising at all. Nobody should jump out of their seat and go “OMG MARN TOOK 3rd”

o yeah now that i finally got some sleep -

ts5 = too fucking sick, even though it was on console haha. day 1 and 2 were hella bomb, day 3 was kinda like bleh, not much hype because everyone seemed to play hella sloppy, maybe cause its on console, but thats cool cause the tournament was great aside from that, and the sunday night antics going from room to room were just too godlike, i’m still recovering from that shit.

heres my highlights for every game -

CFJ - OMG, I don’t think anyone watched or recorded this tourney at the end, save for myself, Keith, and the korean translator girl, who was recording on her camera. To sum it up, OTK and Kindebu are hella sick in this game, Ricky was the one that did the best out of USA (beating Kindevu and beating BAS twice,) but for the most part, Japan is hella sick in this game. otaku has some crazy crazy kenji setups with the cannon…and why the fuck is urien so cheap in this game? Urien headbutts against Kenji = hella safe, you can spaz it all day off UOH…his tackle is also pretty safe too…the japanese ALMOST got me to respect this game, ALMOST, after seeing high level play for the first time…but yeah, everyone pretty much admits it sucks.

KOF2k2 tourney was tight even though there was 9 people, level of comp was pretty good. K-Force beat us in some close matches except for at the end, they are pretty good, but like I said we’re low tier at Chinatown Fair and we pretty much get mopped up by the fobs in every game, if you guys ever come here I think the top players would give you a run for your money. GG guys and I’ll see you at evo, oh yeah Oscar you forgot to give me that dvd :frowning:

ST tourney was hella good too, with Justin first beating Cole 3-2 then Cole pulling out the old parlor tricks that Justin has never seen before to win in 2 sets.

A3 tourney made the game look hella dumb, hehe. All the top USA players were rusty as fuck, even BAS was dropping hella customs all the time. Kindevu = too sick, although he makes the game look hella dumb with crazy cc infinites with a ton of chars.

cvs2 tourney was like, some of the worst final 8 matches I have ever seen in my life…everyone missing hella shit that day. Of course, the best match of the tourney was BKT AKA Buktizzle aka Champbell vs the one and only OTK, that match was too sick, of course it takes a legend to beat a legend, hehe. But then of course he couldnt land his combos against Combofiend the match right after that, but whatever. Ricky looked hella rusty too, dropping customs left and right at crucial points i think he dropped like 6 a-blanka jump fierce customs after rc electricity. CF seemed on point that day more than anyone since he was connecting more stuff than anyone else. I didn’t do good in my final match vs BAS, but I was happy enough to get top 8, and I dunno what Justin is doing picking P-Groove, but it’s cool. A lot of the top players dont seem to play this game anymore.

Hotel CvS2 action was sick, with us all hella drunk, popoblo sober as fuck recording shit, and OTK getting ALL CRAZY with his K-Groove, he was really feeling himself after the tourney, what a fucking beast. Kindevu = Japanese Justin Wong, he plays to win in every game, so noone is on his dick, but his execution is godlike and he knows all the cheap shit in every game. BAS wasnt on top of his game all weekend, he looked pretty weak, but i know he doesnt like console.

3s was pretty bland, didnt see anything too out of the ordinary, and everyone looked rusty. Justin and Ricky running through everyone and Fubar held it down, especially in the SBO qualifier tourney, even though he lost.

GGXX looked kinda bleh too with Kindevu running through everyone for free, and Martin somehow getting 3rd, wtf? its all crazy, almost beat BAS, hahaha.

Marvel was boring because Justin didnt have a good finals with Sanford…but the final 8 was entertaining to watch, and I know some people definetely want revenge, so ECC mvc2 should be fucking sick this year.

Even though the sunday tournaments didnt have any excitement (especially when Pyro won,) the Sunday partying was too much afterwards

Aside from all that, it was a great tournament…props to all of TX, and I’m just gonna write up my shoutouts now.

Thanks to Ranma, Javi (gl with your marriage, good to see you again) and everyone else involved for running a sick ass tournament.

Thanks to cmutt also for being very hospitable and friendly the whole weekend. OMG, “The Gate” is the fucking shit, like I said, it’s straight out of Fight Club or some shit, haha. easily one of the best “arcades” in the usa, hehe, i didn’t want to leave that place on thurs :stuck_out_tongue:

Just thought I point this out just cause im always out to support the gaming scene especially in my home state.

But look how everyone that went (name brands included) are saying this is the funnest and best tournament they have EVER been too. Seeing as how there are many big tournaments and evo, this says alot.

One thing I like about Texas Showdown is that it listens to its players. Every game was 2 out of 3 including cvs2 and they did everything in there power to make sure everybody had a good time and was happy. Good job to javi/ranma for making TS5 a such a legenday tourny.

Awesome tourney, great people (shout-outs later): it was a blast hanging out with everybody. I caught about 17 tapes worth of footage, and the deal with Sugar Land is that if you guys buy the DVDs (to cover the cost of flying out the Japanese), then it’s cool for me to share alla myfootage. So we’re talking about around 3 gigabytes or so (16 hours) of “bonus” Marvel footage if peeps buy the DVD. :tup:
