Hey Astaroth Eugene was looking at Nemesis air throw infinites with Sentinel drones. Can you confirm, cause I’m curious too. I figure they can get out of it with an air super or something.
@January 28th Tournament: Several players from Cincinnati(Kyle and his Vampire Saviour crew) are coming down for the tournament to play and promote VSAV! Time to defend Tennessee!
I always leaned toward Sigfried in the SC games. But of course everyone played a little Ivy back in 2, but honestly the only character I actually tried to look stuff up for was Taki.
I would’ve fell through O’s. I was actually in Olive Branch. But I had to see whether Tebow was really Jesus(he is not) and went out afterwards. Also, I got some posts to ‘like’ when I get to a comp lol.
@ Pat: I learned Cal, even though I haven’t liked it since SCII. Some characters have pretty good dmg output, but it’s moreso about ways that they can get dmg. Then keep in mind that the combos will be weird if you haven’t played Calibur games seriously before. There’s juggles(not like Tekken though) but alot of combos involve stun hits which you may or may not be able to shake out of. And you’ll have to know the effects and properties of moves on reg hit and CH to know how to escape.
But ultimately, charas may excel at getting dmg in diff ways whether it be by stuns, juggles, oki stuff, grabs, ground grabs, etc. Astaroth is still dumb. Dunno anything about ZWEI but Rell suggested I should play him because he knows I like the raw powah!/heavy hitters too(hate Asty though). But if these last few slots don’t reveal Rock, Bangoo(please!), Zasalamel, Mina, or even Hwang, I’ll just prob finally learn Ivy since they’re dumbing her down this game. I never have a prob with stance characters, its just that I didn’t wanna dedicate my life to past SCs or charas that take much. Or I might learn Hilde if she isn’t a sumo wrestler this game(instant ringouts) plus infinite stages auto remedy alot of bs. Rock was ass in IV, but so cornbread dry that he had a few gimmicks that could get by. Monkey Boy looks like a faster Kilik but I don’t like those archetypes and I haven’t liked Kilik since SCII.
Anyway not to ramble on, gonna be hard for you to pre-study SCV before you get the game due to mechanics that you’d prob have a difficult time grasping. I fully suggest you get SCIV and dick around in it to get a feel of system. You might create some stuff that you think are long combos when they’re actually shakeable, but you’ll learn what’s what. Plus Astaroth was a fucking faggot in that game so you’ll feel really good if you use him. Just play around in it. Squad up with Lee, or hell, Charlie or Ian if you can spot em. Pretty sure they’ll come back out for this game. Cody would’ve been a good person to play if he hadn’t moved. Except you’d get hella frustrated fighting Taki. Really dude, if you just wanna “Kung Lao” this shit, look for characters with last name “Alexandra”. I don’t care what ppl are saying. That family will still run this game.
Mick wants to know where he can get the game early. Fuck him.
@ Milln: Yea Kyle and KY are on that VS. I don’t think anyone here took it seriously. Plus if Ray(Kajoq) comes too then there’s no hope anyway.
P.S. I LOVE VS, but only ppl here who’d try to learn/play it for real would be me and Bishop. Plus I don’t have my ps2 import anymore, and i dunno who owns a saturn. And def not playing DS3 on ps1. So I could prob get the ggpo rom again when my laptop gets fixed.
The Nemesis player has to guess which way the opponent will tech, even while in the corner. It’s a 50/50.
There’s no defending TN when we don’t even play VSAV. LOL They won’t be taking our other games from us though…
Pretty much this. Every character plays so differently with different tools given to them, that you just have to go into training mode and mess around. You’ll know which one is your character within a few minutes. Things just click.
And what do you mean “Astaroth is dumb,” Mike? Majin rape you too much with him?
@Krit: Why am I not seeing bullrush in matches any more? Is it punishable now?
And oh God let’s hope it is. There should be repercussions for being able to ram someone across a stage repeatedly without a care in the world. Stupid ass shit. Hell, Rock had to go into his from crouch, and it still wasn’t anything like Astaroth’s.
Pssh, I might peep a few match vids for SCV later, just to have a heads up on any Astaroth wall/ground dragging. Or any 5 minute combos where I have to watch as he pops me in air, and slams me down. Then picks me up, looks at me, hits me and I electrocute and shake, then he knocks me down, picks me up again, I shake, he looks at me. He puts me down, then picks me back up once more and I shake as he brushes my hair, then lays me back down softly. Then stomps me. But depending on where he stomped me he picks me back up and dryhumps me on wall. And I’m shaking and screaming and electrocuting.
That is the best description of Astaroth gameplay I’ve ever seen.
Last Saturday, I asked Majin if he was looking forward to SC5, and his response was “Why do you think I’m playing this filler garbage.” He was serious too. I could see Astaroth in his eyes, bodying people left and right. He even twitched a little.
Also, guys, both MidTN and Memphis. I’m trying to go to that ARK tourney next weekend. So far I got Arson on board to go. Looking for others. Squab our crew last time was pretty epic. Thinking we could run something like that again. Anyone else interested? I can comfortably seat three others on the way to Memphis, then we could caravan from there to ARK.
Like I say, this shit is THIS weekend. Let me know ASAP so we can get this plan together.
Dax, we will kick it like a newborn soccer team. Matter of fact, we are prolly best friend status right now.
To everyone that hit me up on AIM. My bad. I am normally signed in on my phone but I was signed out and still logged in on my home computer. I hit y’all back tho.
I’ve started playing it again on GGPO after I got my laptop running, but you’re right if Ray and the Cincy crew come down you are just playing for fun at that point. Trying to learn some Zombie game but basically my Vsav experience right now is pretty much IAD corner rape. But the GGPO rom is good and there is almost always someone in the lobby playing.
Shin - word up homie. My plan if anyone from memphis is wanting to ride would be to come up Friday and crash somewhere in town to get a good night’s rest, then head up to ARK on Saturday before the tournament. So keep that in mind when you make your travel decisions. I probably wouldn’t be coming back to memphis until Saturday night or first thing Sunday morning.
So right now that’s me, Arson, and Marcus. I got room for one more. Pat I’m looking at you bro.
Speaking of kof, what is the overall strategy for a claw Iori player? Im having a hard time grasping what he “should” be going for in a match. Is he looking to corner carry, rushdown or just look for mixups off hard knockdowns? Most of the characters are fairly clear in their playstyle, but Im having real trouble figuring him out. Any tips appreciated.
I’ve been messing with him alot and beginning to understand him. I sort of just play him as fast and random as I can, using his above average priority and him being fast as hell to my advantage. Seems to me you kind of need to be creative with him, so since Im not I just be as random as I can and rush in hard, and always look for supers and DPs.
He has the same normals as EX Iori so his close C is super good, AA’s like crazy. I like to run up and do that, while keeping dp ready so that if they hop while I’m running I just swipe them. His standing B is very good, and his crouching B goes into pretty decent damage. His jumping C is really good and can cross up. Jump D and B are good too, especially if you think they are going to jump as well. You can ghetto frame trap with his QCB claw swipe specials if they are blocked. His command grab is dangerous, goes straight into super or neomax. IMO put him in a spot where he has meter, because his dash super is amazing. More invincibility than EX Iori’s, does good damage. Worth it to EX that super. Using his back LK in the air to cross up is important and very good when it hits. His overhead cancels into HD, so that is very good to keep in mind.
Other than that… I dunno, I just sort of run on instinct with him and his good damage and speed makes it work out some of the time. Very hit and run with me. He’s very weird. EX Iori makes much more sense as a design to me, and is also easier. I don’t fireball much with EX Iori anyway, so I play them both pretty similar but I have worse results with Claw.
