Tennessee Thread - How Do You Eat a Fart?

I wouldn’t say Gear is like chess, but it’s up there. The gatling combos only scrape the surface. If you’re trying to maximize shit in Gear(and you should) you have to possess knowledge of characters, situations, the stuff that you have to know and can’t blindly recognize and react to on sight. Then there’s the diff character weights that can even fuck up BnB combos. There’s factors in that game. It’s a homework game. I think the emphasis on rushdown kept it “accessible”. Because if everyone just fully utilized all the subsystems and gauges, and played cornbread, max dmg every followup, style, then it would be a chore and you would absolutely have to learn everything or get steamrolled everytime. I never tried to soak in this stuff like the other guys, but the only way they were able to compete at high level is because of it. (And needless to say, I haven’t seen a bigger or similar drive from them in anything else since that game died.)

On the flip, as I understand it, the most challenging part about VF is the playing against the other player. It would already be assumed that everyone has the basic mechanics down, afterwards the game isn’t that creative. Shit is pretty much set in stone. There’s like downright best combos to do in every situation. So if you didn’t do that, then you’d be sacrificing. There’s really not a lot of “______ uses this”. It’s almost, “No, this is what you do. Everytime. Because it’s undisputed best thing to do. And even the practice mode on the game tells you.” Then the system isn’t built around the typical resets, relaunches, all that kind of stuff we’ve grown accustomed to from other games. Wakeup is this whole other thing to grasp, yet its almost simplistic. It’s pretty cut and dry. If you got the execution down, most of the matches are reacting and punishing, within the limits of the system. Everything else is maintaining an offense by decision-making, but it’s nothing too creative or full of originality. The game is fun, but I don’t see it being that much “harder” to play either(if we played it here in the states). Only maybe because it is a fast 3D game, and you have to be able to react with the appropriate response. Like I said, there’s few situations where you have a plethora of options. So it’s mostly just “this” or not. And actually, it’s just a big focus on this three way system of: Block > attack, Grab > block, Attack > grab. And all the engine and features do is find ways to emphasize that.

I had Space Marine. I sold it when PS3 servers had us waiting 30 mins- an hour to get into a game. But I spent alot of time in multiplayer. I thought it was pretty damned balanced. I didn’t finish campaign but the game did get me interested in 40k universe. I might pick it back up again because I want to see if anything’s changed in multiplayer and if people are playing it the same way or if it has transformed.

Hydra down, Butterfly next. The Greataxe is starting to grow on me. Nothing like chopping down giant knights like they were trees.

Josh’s SF4 pool. At least it doesn’t have a Japanese or Korean player in it. Hopefully he does well. We are getting ready to leave so see the ones there that are going.

Ok so im def hosting tomorrow. Starts at 6pm til midnight unless im off or close sunday in which case then it will go till whenever but as of right now it will be until midnight at least. So ya know the drill, bring set ups, liquor, food, etc. Squabb bring the damn pizza maker this time!

Good shit Jas I will try and be there again Squab and I have a challenge to complete and I might actually play/loose Marvel again…maybe.

edited: For clarity cause really NO ONE wins when playing Marvel

Someone is a music nerd…Vivaldi…im surprised slightly unless that is his actual name.

Pretty sure I’ve seen the slowdown on PS3 as well. It’s just a game flaw, not a big deal either. You get used to it.

Edit: Yeah, several reviews say that the games are identical, the slow down is the same on both systems in the same areas.

All right Josh, lets do that good vs evil mirror match with Ryu, ft5!

I found rare footage of Orel actually angry (in his younger days!) Fear that Ryu son!

You will not survive.

Yeah Shawn…I have it on ps3 and blighttown is horrible. It will drop to ass frames while you’re in there…Thats part of the reason it was so hard haha.

Just signed up for Gamefly, hopefully it’ll save me some cash. I figured, I’ll just Gamefly all single player games, and buy the multiplayer games. Sounds like a decent strategy.

Why do Mexican’s love Ryu so much?

This just makes me think of Eugene when he wins with Necro in 3S… the “yuyuyuyuyu” win pose.

Ha! Have fun waiting four days when they actually ship your game. Then, it’s another four days for them to receive the game back. It would be much more worth it if they had a closer shipping center. I’ve been thinking about cancelling my subscription.

Probably because he is the staple popular character. SF has Ryu and Ken, MK has Scorpion and Sub Zero, KOF has Iori, Terry, and Kim, etc.

It’s not just mexicans, my local friends use the popular characters too just because.

It can’t be all that bad, I mean, I’ll just play the multiplayer games I bought in the mean time waiting for the game to arrive, I’m going to try it for a month and see how it is. They had some promotion going where the first month was 50% off ($7.49) so I figured fuck it. If it sucks, I can cancel it right.

You think Ryu gets a passport for all the countries he visits? Hell no he’s the ultimate border hopper.

I tried the free trial wayyy back and had the exact same experience. Filled up my que, waited for about 2 weeks before anything came (i think the item was like #5 on my que)and just sent it back and canceled the service. But hopefully your experience will be better Richard.

Oh God. Okay sports betters …

The spreads are:
[][S]-13.5[/S] -10.5 on the number of SRK’s thrown in a match for both characters combined
OR
[
][S]-8.5[/S] -6.5 on WAKEUP SRK’s thrown in a match for both characters combined
** Note: A “match” consists of one game (2 out of 3 rounds)*

Okay so, let the bets begin. If you can find someone to take the opposite of your bet, consider it taken. For those wondering, I’m going for 7 or more WAKEUP SRK’s thrown in a match (aka I’m taking the over) … if someone wants to take the under (6 or less WAKEUP SRK’s) … we have a $5 bet … LET’S GO!

Yeah, we’ll see. Like I said, 8 bucks to me is a good trial price, I was going to jump on that 10 day trial but I figured if it happens to ship back and forth fast, I can at least kill Batman Arkham City for 8 dollars before I cancel it haha
